  1. The manual states to fill on the center stand. As far as the length of time it takes to top off the front vs. the rear, the volume is a lot less in the front shocks. The rear always takes longer. Over night with cooler temps the pressures will always be a bit lower than in the heat of the day. If the pressure is gone completely you have a leak.....
  2. WOW!! Looked like it went vertical to me......
  3. Good on ya Dan. You could probably get rid of a lot of the Bling-bling and get half your money back the way chrome sells on Ebay.....
  4. Yep, GeorgeS and I got into that stuff cutting acrossed Wyo going home thru Ida after Ft Collins. Thunder storms all over the place and we were heading right at one. 50-60mph cross winds with 18 wheelers approaching from the opposite direction kicking it up even higher. It was exciting times..... But ya know what.... those old 1stGens tracked better than any bike I've ever ridden. They kicked butt.... I've been on other bikes that would have ended up in a ditch. Love that full fairing....
  5. $60 Bucks!!!! What a rip... Unless the bank has a strangle hold on your financial life I'd be looking for another bank.
  6. I do love those old trucks..... that are just about as old as I am.... There's a 53 Chevy 1/2 ton 2 houses down the street for sale that's been calling me.....
  7. A syringe sounds like a great idea, but for those of you that don't have access to a medical syringe, use one of those ear cleaner bulbs you can buy from the drug store. Cut the end off the bulb just enough so that it fits snuggly in the thread opening after taking the bleeder valve out. Too much and it'll be to fat to fit in the hole...too little and it'll bottom out and not allow fluid to enter the caliper. So take a little off at a time to get the right fit. Fill the bulb with DOT 3 and squeeze it into the caliper. Don't worry about reloading the bulb if you need more. The fluid will start to flow out the caliper and air won't easily enter. I usually stick my finger over the hole just to make sure. There's a few more way's that I've read about on the board, and they all seem to work fairly well. Reverse bleeding works equally as well on clutches. It's the linked brakes on the 83-85 mark 1's that are a problem because of the 'hump' formed by the brake line going forward. Air get's trapped in the high spot and is a bear to get out. I've been thinking about drilling out an extra reserve plug and fitting it with a brass hose bib that will allow pressure bleeding of the back master. It's still in the 'what if' stage. I chatter too much...........
  8. Gerald. I think?? you might have muddied the water by putting 'Ireland WV' for the location. Lookers are going to skim over the specs and get the impression it's in the UK.... Just a thought????
  9. Figured it out all by my 'lil lonesome Rich. Be carefull it has a trick box. Didn't do the Doc. Been off the new2me High blood pressure pills for 3 days now and I'm not falling over a 10th of what I was. It was like I'd been offshore on a sailboat for 2 weeks and had my sea legs while walkign ashore for the first time... MOF today has been pretty good....except for my first two posts.....:)
  10. i must be holding the tongue just right. I don't have any problem at all getting the carbs off. Take off left and right side fairings and the front lowers plus the aircleaner and they slip right out. Now getting that dang breather hose reconnected again when putting them back on is another story......

  12. OK, second ***** post this morning... there must be somethin' in the water??? I've got another complaint. I picked up a rally t-shirt at Ft. Collins, and have worn it a few times. My question is.... can't the guys who we order these things from find better t-shirts to print on? The one I have, it might not be true for all, is made of a really thin material, and feels like 'H'. I'm about ready to retire it....permanently... I have a bunch of other 'trophy' T's and they are all made of a nice thick material and feel great. The one from FC is more of an undershirt than a T-shirt.....
  13. That's exactely what I just explained in my first post....I did it ....twice!! It ain't working....... OK... i just figured it out. DON'T check the reset box. What is that thing doing there in the first place??
  14. I've been trying to change the sub-heading that appears under my ID on my posts. I've gone to the UserCP to edit my profile, checked the reset and typed in the info, clicked save changes, and NADA!! The dang thing won't save it, and keeps 'member'. Que Pasa?
  15. Define retired????
  16. HEY!! I'm here.......
  17. Looks like the domino is falling. Canada first, then the US.
  18. It's understandable if you have never been south of the real border, Mordita is a way of life in Mexico. They speak another language there, and every one has their hand in your wallet, from the bus boy to the police chief.... How much shipping do you deal with on a daily basis? Most of my customers are still dealing with customs and agents. NAFTA's a joke, and blaming it for the loss of manufacturing jobs to the US is just as funny. Ever heard of 'Hecho en Mexico'?
  19. I ship goods to Canada all the time and I think the biggest reason for the increase in retails over domestic (US) is import and customs duties. Plus agent fees that are tacked on to the top of that. I can send a heavy boat part coast to coast via USPS Priority Flat Rate for around $9 bucks and it takes 3 days max. Send a boat part to Vancouver and it cost an arm and leg. I just sent a 1lb 9oz package to Ontario and it ran $17.00. That same package sent to Florida..... $4.55. So i think we can blame the Canadain government's 'Mordita' for a lot of the difference in retails..... As far as blaming multiple language wording on product documents, it's a non-issue. This is the computor age and printing is dirt cheap. My 2¢
  20. Did you flush out the fuel tank before starting it the first time? I did the same thing on the '87. Bought it with carb problems, and never could get it to run right. So I changed out the carbs with another set and it took right off and ran great..... the first day. Then things got progressively worse until I'm back to where I started. Didn't even look at the fuel coming out of the tank.... my bad!!
  21. This is my first time with Rotella 15-40 Sam. It came highly recommended on the board so I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try. Up til now I'd been using Valvoline MC specific oil. 10-40 in the winter, and 20-50 in the summer. I just thought 15-40 would be a happy all year round medium... I searched all over the Rotella bottle and couldn't find anything that even remotely suggested that it had modifiers, but I think I read somewhere where there are two different types...hence the big search. I'd been using Castrol GTX 20-50 in just about everything I've owned for the last 30 years, and HDHTR uses it in his 90VR with 165K on it, but when I picked up my first VR I wanted to find something made for a scoot, and ran into the Valvoline. I'll know better in a few months just how well the Rotella works....
  22. Could be. Maybe it's time for a new set of discs?? It all depends on your clutching habits. Rich-99 didn't change his out until somewhere around 80K.... However.... if the clutch didn't slip before adding the 'FI' oil then it's probably left over oil that's causing the problem...
  23. And when you're #2 you have to try harder.......:rotf:
  24. This doesn't have a bit to do with MC's, but I thought someone on the board just might be remorely interested. And if not that's OK too. The auctiion is located in Mt. Dora, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina and Summerville, South Carolina. It only for one day, so things will probably go cheap. See http://www.westauction.com/index.php?a=1112&g=62
  25. Welll Yeaah!!! It's where all the 1stGens are. It's called the Topside. The reason 2ndGeners refer to it as the 'Dark Side' is because they hang out where the sun don't shine. You can call it the 'bilge'. Thought I was going to say something else......huh??...:rotf:
