Looks like the domino is falling. Canada first, then the US.

It's understandable if you have never been south of the real border, Mordita is a way of life in Mexico. They speak another language there, and every one has their hand in your wallet, from the bus boy to the police chief.... How much shipping do you deal with on a daily basis? Most of my customers are still dealing with customs and agents. NAFTA's a joke, and blaming it for the loss of manufacturing jobs to the US is just as funny. Ever heard of 'Hecho en Mexico'?

I ship goods to Canada all the time and I think the biggest reason for the increase in retails over domestic (US) is import and customs duties. Plus agent fees that are tacked on to the top of that. I can send a heavy boat part coast to coast via USPS Priority Flat Rate for around $9 bucks and it takes 3 days max. Send a boat part to Vancouver and it cost an arm and leg. I just sent a 1lb 9oz package to Ontario and it ran $17.00. That same package sent to Florida..... $4.55. So i think we can blame the Canadain government's 'Mordita' for a lot of the difference in retails..... As far as blaming multiple language wording on product documents, it's a non-issue. This is the computor age and printing is dirt cheap. My 2¢

Did you flush out the fuel tank before starting it the first time? I did the same thing on the '87. Bought it with carb problems, and never could get it to run right. So I changed out the carbs with another set and it took right off and ran great..... the first day. Then things got progressively worse until I'm back to where I started. Didn't even look at the fuel coming out of the tank.... my bad!! -
This is my first time with Rotella 15-40 Sam. It came highly recommended on the board so I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try. Up til now I'd been using Valvoline MC specific oil. 10-40 in the winter, and 20-50 in the summer. I just thought 15-40 would be a happy all year round medium... I searched all over the Rotella bottle and couldn't find anything that even remotely suggested that it had modifiers, but I think I read somewhere where there are two different types...hence the big search. I'd been using Castrol GTX 20-50 in just about everything I've owned for the last 30 years, and HDHTR uses it in his 90VR with 165K on it, but when I picked up my first VR I wanted to find something made for a scoot, and ran into the Valvoline. I'll know better in a few months just how well the Rotella works....

Could be. Maybe it's time for a new set of discs?? It all depends on your clutching habits. Rich-99 didn't change his out until somewhere around 80K.... However.... if the clutch didn't slip before adding the 'FI' oil then it's probably left over oil that's causing the problem...

And when you're #2 you have to try harder.......:rotf:

This doesn't have a bit to do with MC's, but I thought someone on the board just might be remorely interested. And if not that's OK too. The auctiion is located in Mt. Dora, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina and Summerville, South Carolina. It only for one day, so things will probably go cheap. See http://www.westauction.com/index.php?a=1112&g=62

Welll Yeaah!!! It's where all the 1stGens are. It's called the Topside. The reason 2ndGeners refer to it as the 'Dark Side' is because they hang out where the sun don't shine. You can call it the 'bilge'. Thought I was going to say something else......huh??...:rotf:

You might try putting a shot of Sea Foam in the crank case to clean out any of the residual 'friction inhanced' oil. If that doesn't cure it then it could be half a dozen other things that could cause it to slip. Do a search on the board for 'clutch repair' or 'clutch slipping'. It's been discussed ad nausium......

That make's a strong case for dry clutches.......

You might try contacting the FTC. Way back I bought a brand new '79 VDub Rabbit. Everything was great for the first 4-5K miles. Then the oil light started coming on and it started using oil. When I took it in for an oil change the dealers response was that I needed to use a heavier viscosity oil then factory specs, and to go to 20-50. That worked for a while and then it started using oil again. Basically after that I never changed the oil. Just kept adding and changing the filter once in a while. I put about 140K on it this way. A few years later I received a notice about a class action suit by the FTC against VW America, stating they knew the engine was defective and tried to cover it up. Something to do with the valve guides being engineered wrong. Anyway I finally got a settlement check from VW for about $1500 dollars. The partial cost of a rebuilt engine based on milage. The nice part about it was that I didn't even own the car any longer..... So, if Yamaha knows that the whine is a real problem, they might be setting themselves up for a class action. If not by the FTC, then some lawyer???... Might be worth looking into......

First off, you'll have to schedule a pickup thru Fed-Ex. Call their customer service number off their website. They're very helpfull. Secondly if Bike Bandit has sent you the return labels, that's all you need. They should have Bike Bandits Fed-Ex account number on them. And third, If worse comes to worse, and you can't resolve the problem, take it to your credit card company. It's amazing how quickly things get taken care of when the payment is disputed.......

Glad to hear you're back to the barn safe and sound Lowell. Any idea of how many miles you've logged so far this year? Gotta be a bunch.....

If you're dead set on de-linking the front and rear brakes, go for it. I'd just plug the left front caliper and not use it at all. I want to preface this by saying I've never done it, but to me using two caliper/rotors on the front wheel is asking for a lock up big time, beside being super touchy. That's an awful lot of braking applied to one wheel when the contact patch is so small anyway, but then again I've never done it. Maybe someone on the board has, and can give a better idea of the braking performance. I cut my teeth on seperate front/back brake systems and still have that built in reflex, but personally don't notice a big difference in regular riding brake situations with them linked.....

One of my local Yamaha Dealers received a blue 2007 RSV and sold it right away. Since then they haven't reordered. Or maybe Yamaha isn't delivering?? All I know is that it's tough selling out of an empty basket.

The way chrome sells on Ebay it's definately a parts bike.....:rotf:And you're right on the dice, but I think a small bobble head dog on the rear would look better. Esse' Vato....

When I had the side wall checking problem 1.5 years ago I was advised by Avon to run max pressures.

Just picked up some Rotella 15-40 from Wally World for $8.97 per gallon. Gonna give it a try. That works out to right around $2.25 per qt. Previously I reported that Sam's Club also sells it by the 4 gal. case for $50 and change, but was mistaken.... first time this year... It's a 6 gal. case and it works out to right at $8.97/gal. Amazon's price of $2.98/qt. is way too much to be paying for Rotella. Another thing I like about the gal. size is that's what it will take to fill the crank case when changing out the filter at the same time. No more measuring.....

I've had the Speed Bleeders installed on one of the 83's for about 2 years now, and they do make life a lot easier when bleeding the brakes or clutch..... if you don't have any air in the lines. Once the lines are air free it's a piece of cake.

Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
MAC Muffler update: Talked to Mac Friday and the final 4 sets are off to the platers and they should be ready today (9/24) or tomorrow (tues). It'll probably be a few more days before they are inspected, boxed, and shipped here to the house. We're getting close!!! -
