  1. I have a set of 2ndGen clutch and front brake masters stashed away for the '87. Just liked the looks of them over the stock 1stGens....... Planned on shimming the 7/8ths bars.
  2. OK I won't mention 'just once' ever again......
  3. Great tip Dave.....
  4. Don't think weight has anything to do with it. It's like being a little bit pregnant. You either is or you ain't.. ABS either works, or it doesn't. It's function is to keep the brakes from locking up, and allows maximum traction between the tire and the road. Whether it's on a 300# rocket or an 800# cruiser. The 800# cruiser will have more traction due to weight and tire footprint, but that's strictly between the tire and the road..... not the ABS.
  5. My bad.... I never clicked the pic..... I just looked at the line under Eagleeye's ID and saw the '86.... Like I said it was an old age moment... Sorry...
  6. OK, All the US MAC Group buy members need to check their message boxes. You'll find your UPS tracking number there. CANADAIAN MAC's will be going out tomorrow.....
  7. Not lost, just answering the question the best I can. There are a few 1stGen riders that refer to there gold 'steeds' as palaminos... blonds...etc. Youse guys need to learn that there's another Venture world besides 99 to pres. Of course if the question had mentioned 2ndGen there wouldn't ha ve been any confusion..... It's an old age thing....
  8. OK, I'm willing to learn. Excluding ABS systems, what other cruising bikes on the market impress you more, and how??
  9. We have a list of colors under the history section of this site. Basically the years for Aluvial gold were the 83 Royale, 84 Standard, and 87 Standard. COLORS
  10. Good idea, but I'd still need to mount hockey pucks, like on a lift, to clear the exhaust and support the frame....?? It's got me to thinkin'. Maybe a hydraulic lift without the caster wheels might be the trick??
  11. I've trailered a couple of VR's in the past and have never been real comfortable securing the bikes by tieing to the sprung part of the bike. Even though the straps are tight when the trailer isn't moving, as soon as the trailer does start to move the bike starts to work up and down, and those tight straps start to loosen and put a lot of stress on the attachment parts. I also get a lot of chafe on the webbing. I've thought about putting the bike on the center stand to stop the up/down movement, and I know a lot of folks keep their bike on it's side stand to reduce movement. I've also seen a gizmo on American Thunder that allows the bike frame to be attached directly to the trailer bed, making it unsprung and no straps are used at all. I haven't come up with the answer yet....but I'm thinking about it......
  12. 1stGens terrible?? I thought mine did a great job of stopping. Maybe not the stopping power of a full blown ABS system, but they've never failed to keep me in control in any riding condition. I rebuilt the intire system on 83#1 about a year and a half ago, and it rocks!!
  13. BUMP!! See the update in the last post.....
  14. HDHTR used to keep in touch with DALLAS, but lately Steve has just about disappeared off the board too???
  15. LEFT HANDED CRESCENT WRENCH.......
  16. Geoff, Like I PM'd Rick, USPS Global is the only way I ship north of the boarder. I might also add that I received the 10 sets tonight just before dinner. So I'll start shipping them out over the next couple of days. I might also add that I'm going to inspect each set to make sure nothing has been damaged during shipment. I did hear a little metal on metal when my UPS driver unloaded them, but it could be nothing more then the clamp baggy wandering around in there. I'll let everyone know what I find.... The last time around a few sets had the tip of the turndown pushed in and this time I want to make sure they're OK. OK, opened up a box to check on things and the packaging is MUCH better than the last batch... The rattle was the set of new clamps moving around and won't hurt a thing. I stuffed in more newspaper for security. As it looks right now, I'll start cutting labels and taking them to the UPS office tomorrow afternoon. Checking each box will take some time.... Canadian shipments will probably go out Friday. There....Everybody happy!!!
  17. HA!! Scott I've wrenched on more boats than you've ever seen in your lifetime...... AND.... you're right!!!:rotf:
  18. Buddy, didn't you have a blown shock??? Yep..... it's an old age thing......:rotf:
  19. Never said the bike was small. I said that it seems to be built for smaller riders with not much leg room. Inseam is subjective to how much built in padding your A$$ has. 34" and no butt isn't the same as 34" and lots of padding.
  20. Al, I really hope you never have to turn a wrench on the '06 other than lube, oil, and filters. There are a lot of 2ndGens that are running great. There's also a lot of 1stGens that do also. But from what I've read the chances of something happening in the future are pretty good. So many in fact that I've gotten gun shy....
  21. Yeah, find a company... that does it's R&D product testing in the lab before producing a bike, and not rely on reports of failures from it's customers....and then still do nothing about making any changes.... Harley seems to have taken a pride in their workmanship and service. Maybe there's something to being 'Made in the USA' again.....
  22. I'm sure, just like every other 1stGen owner, I always thought that if I ran into a clean newer 2ndGen at a steal price, I'd buy it. To be honest I'm getting tired of working on bikes. I know a lot of members are going to jump all over that statement, but I would really like something that takes normal service and runs down the road. Maybe there's no such thing? But I don't want to be a slave to a source of intertainment. I wanna ride. After reading about all the problems that 2ndGens are having.... both with dealer service, and common repeating problems.... I don't think a 2ndGen is much better than a 1st, and doesn't have much of a track record either. I get the feeling that it's buy a Venture, and become a mechanic. New or old...it doesn't make much difference. Another thing that's making me leary about the 2ndGen is it seems to be designed more for someone that's smaller. I've read a bunch about taller riders doing all sorts of things to create extra leg room, and I'm at the upper end of the horizontally challenged scale. I'm going to start broadening my search and start looking at other brands. There's got to be an answer out there somewhere.......I'm just getting the feeling it's not with Yamaha.....
  23. Good question JR..... To my knowledge the speedo is mechanically driven and the only thing electrical around it is the dash light. My guess is the speedo sensor probably has something to do with the cruise?? If your speedo stopped working it's most likely the upper cable to the dash has viabrated loose and fallen off. Happened to me on one of the '83's only mine didn't quit, it howled when cold. I thought it was a dry lube thing, but when I swapped out the dash the cable fitting was barely touching the speedo dash fitting. Needless to say the fitting is really torqued on now.
