Parking in marked stalls..ediquite and safety
Condor replied to tony h's topic in Safety and Education
One possible way you take care of the problem is hit'm in the pocket book. A few letters to the surounding merchants, and the city council, explaining that you'll be spending your dollars in another town because of one person's anti-bike animosity. Even when you're driving a car.... That will usually get the other leaders to take the person aside and have a talk with him.... The idea of legally taking up all the parking spaces around the business will only piss him off even more. -
Good meeting you and Bev too Jack. Looks like you folks are having a great time..... BBQ's always draw a crowd. Your place next summer?? T-Bone....medium rare....

I'm not much of a long distance rider, but I did do about three 600 +/- mile legs to and from Ft Collins, and for me that's a lot. The last 600 kicked my rear end with temps around 105deg thru Nevada on the way home. 200-300 is much more enjoyable for me........

I can't believe this is happening again so soon after the Julian Fire of just a few years ago. What a mess. Here's a copy from the Sac Bee this morning. And the San Diego fire is just one of many in SoCal, but if diffinately the biggest with 600 homes gone. http://media.sacbee.com/smedia/2007/10/22/22/313-firemain.embedded.prod_affiliate.4.jpg SAN DIEGO – An explosive chain of Southern California wildfires has triggered the largest evacuation in state history, with hundreds of thousands of people fleeing their homes as weary firefighters struggle to slow the relentless infernos that have consumed more than 267,000 acres since last weekend. In San Diego County alone, seven separate fires spurred the evacuation of 300,000 people – 10 percent of the county's population. "There's been a mass exodus," said Luis Monteagudo, a spokesman for the county. "Some roads are gridlocked. Emotions are on edge. We are going through something unprecedented at this point." http://ads.sacbee.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_lx.ads/www.sacbee.com/content/news/story/1764056599/Button20/Sacbee/Starbucks_NW_300_0710/Starbucks_NW_300_0710.html/34353365396532353436643662633330?_RM_EMPTY_ Fire officials estimated that 500 homes and 100 businesses had been destroyed in San Diego County's Witch fire, which had charred 145,000 acres as of Monday night. Throughout the Southern California fire zone, one death was confirmed and 39 people were injured, including 15 firefighters. The number of evacuees far exceeds California's previous record, when 120,000 people were displaced in Northern California during the 1997 floods. Across the south state, at least 14 fires rampaged through seven counties. Fanned by ferocious winds and feeding on vegetation parched by drought, the fires on Monday blazed from the mountains to the sea. Today's prospects don't look much better, with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph, gusting up to 80 mph, said Mike Sicilia, an Office of Emergency Services spokesman. He said the winds are expected to die down by Wednesday. In Los Angeles County, four fires ate through more than 80,000 acres, destroying at least 24 homes, a church and numerous outbuildings and injuring eight people, including two firefighters. Most of those hurt had minor injuries, said Rick Dominguez, a Los Angeles county fire inspector. For longtime residents of the rugged canyons north of Los Angeles, the massive Buckweed fire represents decades of concern. That fire triggered the evacuation of 15,000 residents, officials said. "We always have fires in the canyons, and you pretty much know where they're going," said Kim Nelson, a resident of Saugus since 1974. "But this is a wildfire in the truest sense of the word. We haven't had any relief for two days. None." As winds picked up Monday morning, flames forced brief evacuations in Saugus, a sprawling collection of new developments and old horse ranches in the canyons north of the San Fernando Valley. Families ran from their homes clutching armloads of clothing and electronics after sheriff's deputies roared through the neighborhood on motorcycles announcing a mandatory evacuation. Neighbors hugged and cried as they parted. Yet almost as quickly as the fire sped downhill toward two dozen homes, heat billowing ahead of it, the blaze dissipated after consuming the fuel in its path. In the San Bernardino Mountains, flames roared toward homes north of Lake Arrowhead, with officials confirming that 138 structures were destroyed and 1,500 homes were in peril. Earlier Monday, an online appeal from Lake Arrowhead firefighters summed up their desperate situation: "Immediate threat to 100 structures and possible threat to thousands ... Multiple downed power lines. IC (Incident Command) asking for resources from anywhere... . Lack of resources hindering suppression efforts. Unable to fly aircraft. All local engines are depleted."

Scott. I don't think things have really changed that much. What has changed is the instant awareness that's afforded us thru internet families that have formed and grown. As families grow in size the chance of one of it's members having an accident increases, and instantly hearing about an accident increases. Before the internet we would have never heard about Gary and Leslie's accident and the results. I think you should consider this before making any rash decisions. Maybe a little hiatus away from riding might help. We all change our play toys from time to time, but making a life style change is a lot different. Hope you find 'fun' in anything you do. Good Luck.

I'm numb...... Way to much of this going on lately. Peace, Forgiveness, and Healing be upon you Gary.

WOW!! I'm having severe flashbacks. KQW7646. Central Valley 2513. I can still remember!! Never got into a base station, but ran various radios in my pickups for years. I used to put on lots of miles running between Sacramento and L.A. and talking to, or just listening to, other truckers BS'ing. Kept me awake. It even saved my cookies a couple of times. Once with a blown engine on the top of Donner Pass/I-80 in a snow storm. Thanks for passing a 5 and getting AAA to come up and get me 'Lug Nut'. Later found out his real name was Walter Nutt. Later in years, and a few radios, I ran a HiGain E640 (40 channel SSB) with a Palomar 175 watt bi-linier under the seat. Talked to a radio operator in Queensland Austrailia for over a half and hour when the evening skip rolled in on the west coast. Those were fun days.......:)

Coming back home from Ft Collins I wore my mesh in 102-105degs for just about the entire 600 miles from Idaho to Sacramento on the last day. It was nippy when I left ID, and had the liner in for the first 100 miles down to Wells NV., and then took it out....quick!! I was pretty comfortable in mesh mode....as long as I kept the R's up. Buy one...you'll like it.

Geeze, i don't know about the rest of you, but I think it looks a lot like a 2ndGen with an extra header ....... http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload/193491/images/Triumph12.jpg

Kit, I was just trying to make play on words based on your statement... 'So the score was 34/3. No helmets won!' (sic). Sorry it sounded like I was getting after you or where you stand on the hemet issue. I also wear my helmet ATT (all the time). Hey, as horizontally challenged as I am I've bang'd my head a few times over the years...and it hurts. Don't want to do it off a scoot. "To wear or not to wear...that is the question".... a little Shaky Spear pun.

Nice observation Kit. Now, let me ask you this. How many deaths occured over the last year where the rider was not wearing a helmet vs. those that were? Wonder who the winners are now? There's always a flip side to every statistic.......

I don't think running pure Sea Foam in the engine was what was suggested. Adding Sea Foam to the dino oil for a couple of changes was, and is recommended on the Sea Foam website. Hope nothing was damaged internally when you did this. Bet it was super clean afterwards.....
