MAC Muffler group buy list.
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Geoff, Like I PM'd Rick, USPS Global is the only way I ship north of the boarder. I might also add that I received the 10 sets tonight just before dinner. So I'll start shipping them out over the next couple of days. I might also add that I'm going to inspect each set to make sure nothing has been damaged during shipment. I did hear a little metal on metal when my UPS driver unloaded them, but it could be nothing more then the clamp baggy wandering around in there. I'll let everyone know what I find.... The last time around a few sets had the tip of the turndown pushed in and this time I want to make sure they're OK. OK, opened up a box to check on things and the packaging is MUCH better than the last batch... The rattle was the set of new clamps moving around and won't hurt a thing. I stuffed in more newspaper for security. As it looks right now, I'll start cutting labels and taking them to the UPS office tomorrow afternoon. Checking each box will take some time.... Canadian shipments will probably go out Friday. There....Everybody happy!!! -
HA!! Scott I've wrenched on more boats than you've ever seen in your lifetime...... AND.... you're right!!!:rotf:

Buddy, didn't you have a blown shock??? Yep..... it's an old age thing......:rotf:

Never said the bike was small. I said that it seems to be built for smaller riders with not much leg room. Inseam is subjective to how much built in padding your A$$ has. 34" and no butt isn't the same as 34" and lots of padding.

Al, I really hope you never have to turn a wrench on the '06 other than lube, oil, and filters. There are a lot of 2ndGens that are running great. There's also a lot of 1stGens that do also. But from what I've read the chances of something happening in the future are pretty good. So many in fact that I've gotten gun shy....

Yeah, find a company... that does it's R&D product testing in the lab before producing a bike, and not rely on reports of failures from it's customers....and then still do nothing about making any changes.... Harley seems to have taken a pride in their workmanship and service. Maybe there's something to being 'Made in the USA' again.....

I'm sure, just like every other 1stGen owner, I always thought that if I ran into a clean newer 2ndGen at a steal price, I'd buy it. To be honest I'm getting tired of working on bikes. I know a lot of members are going to jump all over that statement, but I would really like something that takes normal service and runs down the road. Maybe there's no such thing? But I don't want to be a slave to a source of intertainment. I wanna ride. After reading about all the problems that 2ndGens are having.... both with dealer service, and common repeating problems.... I don't think a 2ndGen is much better than a 1st, and doesn't have much of a track record either. I get the feeling that it's buy a Venture, and become a mechanic. New or old...it doesn't make much difference. Another thing that's making me leary about the 2ndGen is it seems to be designed more for someone that's smaller. I've read a bunch about taller riders doing all sorts of things to create extra leg room, and I'm at the upper end of the horizontally challenged scale. I'm going to start broadening my search and start looking at other brands. There's got to be an answer out there somewhere.......I'm just getting the feeling it's not with Yamaha.....

Good question JR..... To my knowledge the speedo is mechanically driven and the only thing electrical around it is the dash light. My guess is the speedo sensor probably has something to do with the cruise?? If your speedo stopped working it's most likely the upper cable to the dash has viabrated loose and fallen off. Happened to me on one of the '83's only mine didn't quit, it howled when cold. I thought it was a dry lube thing, but when I swapped out the dash the cable fitting was barely touching the speedo dash fitting. Needless to say the fitting is really torqued on now.

After trotting down to the local ACE Hardware store for a couple of metric bolts and nuts I could see me sinking a lot of bucks into new fasteners. So..... I bought about 40# of 1stGen metric screws nuts and bolts off Ebay for cheap before others figured out what was going on and the prices started to climb. A lot of them are specialty fasteners for the 1stGens only. I must have a ga'jillion dollars worth.

I can see the sport bike set liking it maybe, but even if it does lean you're not going to scrape any pegs with it.....

Glad you're doing better John. There's a lot to be said about the Harley trunk on an RSTD. Lone Eagle has one on his TD and it's much better and roomier than the stock RSV. However, if top heaviness is an issue it will certainly add to the high side weight.

I bet they haven't made a RSV part for the bike or the V4 motor in a couple of years. The RSV will last only as long as they can continue building them out of their parts stock. Just change the color each year. Same thing happened with the Royales. The last of the Royales were sold in Europe and marketed as '94's. It would be nice if Yamaha were going to bring out a new improved bike, but from a marketing standpoint I don't think you're going to see it for a couple of years, if at all.
-
I thought it was a pretty good idea. Maybe not from a cost standpoint, but as an alternative fuel source if nothing else. Although there's a lot to be said about electrical power.....
-
That's because you're only reading 2ndGen posts... Take you entire post and swap out the 1st and 2nd references and it reads the same......

Be suspicious about anything you receive from Ebay. The best way to tell if it's spam or phishing is that your real name is not in the header, and the email refers to your ebay 'handle'. And....even when your name is used still be suspicious.... I used to get a lot of those phishing emails, but haven't in a while now. I used to send them all to spoof@ebay.com . Maybe it worked??? You have to keep your head on a swivel with anything internet related, not just Ebay, as it's worldwide with countries that have different laws, and a could care less attitude. We can control what happens here in the US, but there's not a damn thing we can do about offshore scammers.

I was a 3 pack a day smoker for 20 years, then I cold turkey'd the habit 20 years ago. There are two habits you have to beat if you want to stop smoking. One is the oral habit...like sucking your thumb.... and the other is the chemical addiction. Nicotine. All the patches are going to do is help you get rid of the oral habit. The patch is still feeding nicotine into your system. That's why once you've beaten the oral and get off the patch so many 'ex-smokers' climb back on the wagon and start up again. They're still addicted to the nicotine. It takes a lot of will power to just quit... You have to have the conviction that you ARE quiting and just do it. Otherwise your kidding yourself. Save your patch money and go buy another pack of nails. If you do commit, the first 2-3 weeks are the roughest. The first couple of days you'll wash all the windows, mow the lawn, do the dishes, and just about every other chore you can find because of all the energy you'll have. You'll also stuff anything you can into your mouth....the oral thing. But once you get buy the first couple of weeks this should taper off. Just be prepared to go though hell for a couple of weeks. You'll be glad you did. You'll save a ton of money, food will taste better, you can smell the roses again, and eventually you'll find you can't stand to be around a cigarette. It'll take your breath away....
