I thought it might have been a Canadian bike except it doesn't have a KPH speedo. I'll know more once I start digging into it. I didn't look at the born-on tag. Just took the sellers word that it was a '91. Besides all the '93's I've ever seen are blue on blue. MOF I own one. Once I take some pics and post them, I'll let everyone put their thinking caps on and we can figure it out. Maybe it's a Canadian that's had it's dash replaced??? Although the original owner was from Ruidoso NM. ?? It's close to Roswell.... maybe that explains it.....ooweeoo

Yeah, it's black with grey panals. Looks. I thought it was an all black 'Midnight' from the original pics the owner posted, but I like this combo even better.

Ya know. I gotta admit, I had been looking at 2gens. Don't anybody faint. I actually rode a couple. Sorry guys... I guess it's my being horizontally challenged... but 2ndGens just don't feel 'right' to me. I get on one and my knees are in my eyeballs. OK not my eyeballs, but you get the idea. That's what I like about a 1stGen. It sits high, and I can stretch forward on the highway pegs, or keep 'm under me on the stock pegs. I even find myself resting the back of my calf on the highways on long trips. With the passenger packed with a duffle bag I can lean back, and it's very comfortable. So...... that said I went out and bought another 1stGen. A '91 black/gray. I don't know if it's a repaint... I can't find the color combination listed in the history section.... but I really really like it. It's got more chrome on it than I care to admit. Would look great cruising East L.A. in SoCal.... It's got more V-Line stuff on it than I've never seen before??? The rear end lighting will look good around christmas. And it already has a trailer 'receiver' hitch installed and wired. It has a few seedy cosmetic plastic areas, but every thing it needs I have stashed!! I'll post pics when I get it smoozed.

DELTARAT had the same thing happen to him when he bought his '89 off Ebay. Rode it back from L.A. to Sacramento, and barely made it on a bike that was supposed to be perfect. Mainly carb problems and he's still trying to iron things out.....

Nice job Jack.....

Yeah, I think we need to delete the 2ndGen Tech talk section from the board.... They don't need it, and it's just taking up valuable band space. I mean heck there's never any posts in it anyway... They're so perfect. I think they should get rid of the 2ndGen Tech Library too. The articals are just fictional ramblings.... :rotf:

That's why I try to use USPS when ever I can, but sometimes it's unavoidable......

I ship to Canada all the time with my business. But I'm lazy, and the only complaint I have is that filling out all the customs forms is a PITA. Shipping in the US is a breeze with either USPS or UPS. Not so on something going north of the boarder.

Don, where do you dig this stuff up??? You have way to much time on your hands........:rotf:

Yep, 83#2 was that same way when I got her. Only it'd been sitting outside in the rain for a couple of winters. The plastic was perfect. Got the engine fired with carb cleaner after grinding the starter for about 5 minutes. Fired and shut her off emediately. Dumped in fresh fuel and a can of Sea Foam. Fired 'er again, and the longer the engine ran, the better it ran. Not great, but good. Bled the black fluid out of the clutch and brakes, and road it around the next day. After tossing in a set of fresh plugs, and syncing the carbs, it ran awesome. Strongest motor of the two 83's. You might try adding a little Sea Foam to fresh crank oil before tearing the clutch apart. Once that engine starts to warm up a bit those plates should seperate, and tranny will start to move around.

It's unfortunate but Red Wing has probably gone the direction of just about every other US manufacturing company. However, there might be hope. With the US dollar value falling against the worlds exchange rates we might be looking to the US for better quality, cheaper goods again, and we'll start exporting instead of importing everything. I looked at those Red Wing boots when searching for a pair, but they didn't make them in my size. Ended up buying a similar type pair of EMT boots, with the side zipper, off Ebay. Found them very comfortable, and broke them in on the Ft. Collins trip.

I run Kuryakyns on both my '83's and haven't had bit of problem with the chrome. MOF one set I bought used from a Harley rider, so they were really used..... I think most of the damage to the crash bar chrome comes from the clamp rotating because it isn't torqued down tight enough. It may also be because to clamp size is too big to tighten. On the 1stGens they have a vertical bracing strut up front. I mounted mine on it using an offset. It allowed the peg to sit farther forward and still keep it tucked in enough to not get in the way.

This morning on the way to Sam's Club, while in a left hand turn lane a 1stGen made a turn in front of me coming off the street I was about to turn onto. And...... I flipped a u-ee and chased him down to a hardware store he pulled into. If he hadn't of stopped I'da never caught him being as how those 1stGens are so fast and all. Pulled along side as he was sitting there and struck up a conversation. He lives in Cresent City, and keeps an '85 up there, and an '87 down here in Sacramento. His '87 is identical to mine only in one piece.... I envited him to our Dec 1st M&E and told him about the board. Hope he shows up. Nice guy.

Yep, Ebay has them all the time. Just make sure the seller guarantees it not to be DOA. Cleanliness/condition also have a lot to do with the quality of the part. I see a lot of 'grunge' coils listed. I thought I might have an OEM, but just checked my 'stash' and couldn't locate it.

A come-a-long would probably work but I wouldn't care to carry one around all the time. I was thinking more along the lines of that pictured below. You can stuff it just about anywhere it would fit. Doesn't weigh a lot, doesn't take up much room, is ply-able, and will do the job. Racheting tiedowns aren't too good of an idea as they don't have a heck of a lot of movement before the spool gets cloggd up. The 4:1 purchase is a pretty handy item. Use it anytime you find something you thought you could move, but can't anymore.......

Four fried pies for a buck!!! Just kidding. Sorry about that. The sailor in me snuck out. It's a block and tackle set up. If you can't find a deadfall you can carry an anchor and kedge it back up......

One of my front shocks on the '83 just started to groan. I wonder if the 'Eck' fix would work on it also????

From what I've seen on 2ndGens that have been dropped is the rear trunk always seems to have scratches and dings. The only way that can happen is if the bike goes all the way down. 'Course I don't know if it happens everytime, but I see a lot of damaged trunks. If getting it back up is a problem carry a 4:1 purchase. Hook it to any deadfall... car bumper, tree, fire hydrant, etc.... and bring it back up. Personally I couldn't get my butt low enough to get below the seat and use the push with the legs method. May look funny when doing it, but it'll get the job done. The last resort is a trike.... then you never need worry.....
