    Need Advice.

I'm just wondering what this guy expects, and why he needs proof that the bike exists? He might just be cautious, but the 'does it exist' problem is something that holds true with any Ebay motorcycle auction. I definately wouldn't take a token down and hold it. Even a non-refundable deposit could go bad and you end up sitting on the bike all winter with no money until spring before you can relist it. The idea of having an aquaintence inspect it has merit, but if he doesn't know anyone in the area perhaps having him call a local dealer that knows the bike could vouch for it. Better yet, ask him what he would need as proof.... If his requests get a little strange, forget him and go on....
  2. I've put 365,000 miles on an '87 F250 Diesel, and my current '92 F250D is right at 240,000, so I'm pretty familiar with Ford trucks. The only problem they seem to have is auto trannys going every 100,000 before 1996 when they redesigned the thing. Other than that they are pretty bullet proof. I wanted an auto in the '87, but the guys down at the Ford dealer said the best thing that could have happened is me finding a used one with a 4 speed manual. I had a buddy that had an identical '87, but with an auto the same time that I owned mine, and every 100 thousand he had to rebuild the tranny.
  3. Maybe Venture Riders International???? It has a certain ring to it doncha think??
  4. That's another reason we finally went with an artificial. The dried needles that stuck in the rug when removing the 'real' tree after the new year.....for 30 years. Arrrrgh!! what a pita!!!
  5. I'm sure Fred has been there and done that just a few times. Wish he lived closer, I'd be over there all the time drivin' him nutz!!
  6. I think a book idea is great, but wonder if it would never be completed, as new and fresh ideas keep appearing on the forum. I do think the idea of a 'living' downloadable data file that could be added to as needed would be a better way to go. The problem would be to get someone to be the 'editor'.?? My 2¢.....
  7. Denden- That's what I was kinda coming up with after reading all the info. I actually hope it is the pan that's leaking. I think I can handle that. It's not easy for me to get my big bod and hands up into the underside of the bike. I have a lift, but think it would only get in the way while the bike's sitting on it, and it looks like I'd probably have the best access with the bike on the side stand anyway.
  8. With a little patients you should be able to find all the stuff you need on Ebay. It's a buyers market on 1stGen parts right now. MOF everything you've listed is common from 86-93.....
  9. At $118 bucks for thicker aircraft grade material it sounds like a good deal. I like the fact that each one is custom made and the entire windshield can be tinted. Nice find....
  10. My bike weighs more than a 100 lbs.....
  11. Just a guess, but maybe you have a faulty chip since it's been doing it all along. ??? As far as a fix? Try finding just the box on ebay for a couple of bucks and swap them out. I don't think it would be economical giving it to tech.???
  12. Another 30 years and that thing's going to be worth at least $2.50. A great investment!!!
  13. I donno...my mind keeps coming up with things that aren't appropriate for this board..... I give up....
  14. Yes, keep it in a glass bottle and make sure it's labled.
  15. I've got time on my hands Paul. Biz sucks!! I think we have two different seals being discussed here. One is for the clutch push rod, and the other is for the gear shifter rod. I guess I'll have to dig the manuals out. When I moved into my new office I boxed up a lot of stuff, and the manuals were in the mess. Trying to avoid the hunt. I have read the .ftp copy, but it doesn't get into fixing leaks, just removing the whole engine....
  16. Great story Todd.... I'll have to remember that about the exhaust... I think your saying that you pulled the slave to replace the seal, and could get the rod out the left side?? I've done a couple of slaves and didn't know the rod would clear the left side. Heck I didn't even know there was a seal in the block, and thought the oil seal was actually handled by the one in the slave... I guess it's only a dust seal. Shows you what I know.... What did you use to remove the old seal? BTW this is on the '91...
  17. Must have been a tough life being celibate, but you -were- safe from ware-wolves.....
  18. Artificial. Found a great one with the lights at Home Depot for about 40 bucks more than they charge for them on a lot.... $40 bucks plus.... And everyone that sees it thinks it's real. This is our 4th year so we're way ahead in the expense dept. HO HO HO!!!!
  19. Thanks for the info Guys. Let me know how it goes Thom..... I love it when someone else leads the way:).... If I do need to pull the pan I'll probably go the new everthing route too. Might as well do it all, while I'm in there. I probably would have let the leak ride if it just marked it's spot, but the leak is right over the collector and smokes up a storm. I'll check the shifter seals. Good info. The PO did a lot of 'go-fast' experiments, and he apparently wasn't a member of this board. When I took a look at the K&N air filter I found the Air Box lid so full of holes it would have done a swiss cheese maker proud. Replaced it with a stock lid and it sure ran a lot better. I wonder if he got around to installing Progressives, it has a Super Brace???
  20. Hey George. The new2me '91 I just picked up has an oil leak right above the collector on the left side. Get's a little smoky when things start to warm up. I haven't really poked around to actually locate the leak yet, and it might just be in the stator/wire plug area, but I thought I'd cover all the bases before I start to look. Hey....it's winter... Heard you got a little rain up there...
  21. OK, I've never replaced a pan gasket before, so I thought I'd ask the experts. After getting the exhaust and collector out of the way can I drop the pan, or am I just starting. Man.... I hope I don't have to pull the motor.....
  22. Dang, I thought you were refering to the swim suit variety..... :rotf:
  23. Since you'll never use it, you can send me the voucher... if Motel 6 is the chain you're refering to...... Good thing it wasn't the one in Fort Collins....
  24. I noticed they didn't compare abrasiion resistance to buffalo hide, but just to man made materials. They also stayed away from adding Kevlar to the man made list???
  25. That's what ya get for staying in those high end motels/hotels. Motel 6 has always used 'one time use' plastic cups........ And here I thought they were just being cheap......
