  1. Yeah, It's really bad up here in Sac. I've lost about 50-60 feet of fence, the cover to the patio, the two back RV gates. Lost power for about 2 hours.... actually was supprised it came back on so quickly. Hear on the news that 200,000 people are with out electricity. I just fired up the Honda EU2000 and watched a movie.... :-) Right now it still interrupted by blasts that shake the house and office. WooHooo!!!!!
  2. Just sold one of my 83's on Craigs list. Seems like the place where things are headed. Ebay actually owns 25% of Craigs List. Hope they don't get their hooks in any deeper.....
  3. I'd feel safer riding my 1stGen in this stuff than having a 2ndGen in the garage...... :dancefool:
  4. I hear tell that Texas' gets their fair share of wind. You can have this one if'n you want.... Gotta talk that way to these Texans.... I understand that there are about 50 different names for wind....chinook, mariha, santana, etc. This one's 'Frijole'... This thing is supposed to last the rest of the day and into tomorrow. No telling what it's gonna look like (Californian) in the morning....:rotf:
  5. If you used your Visa to pay for the battery you can dispute the charges. I had to do that once. Took a while to get the charge reversed, but it finally happened. Got you on the list Don. Since some of the guys have already started, you can send the payment now or later. Whichever's most convenient.
  6. WOW!! 50-60 knot winds, rain. One heck of a storm rolling thru. So far I've lost the gates in the back fence and about 50 feet of side fencing. The window in the office sounds like a digery-do. Tried to save some of the fence and then said screw it and came back inside. Hope the roof stays put.......
  7. Yep, saw one that was a top luggage rack. I'm looking for the rack the 86-93 trunk sits on. Unless..... I missed it??
  8. There has been a drop in activity. Last month (Dec '07), only 12 bikes were listed. In Dec. '06 Ebay had 17 sold. Currently I only see one that's listed. For the entire month of Jan of '07 there were 30 1stGens that closed. The same thing goes for 1stGen parts. If it weren't for a couple of sellers parting out bikes ,and doing mass listings, parts activity would be really low. Sign of the economy.....??
  9. LOL Duly noted Jeff.....

    Shift happens

I'm really an odd duck. Been working for the same guy for 30+ years........ me!!
  11. Nah, Kenny, hang in there until about the 20th and I'll send out PM's.
  12. Maybe just a rubber band wrapped around the post???
  13. That's a good point Graig. Anyone installed the combination?
  14. I saw that and posted a comment about it in the thread. Depends on who you talk to at Odyssey. They recommend the MJ for Harleys because of the air cooled motor, lots of vibration, and the battery sitting next to the oil reserve. Really hot. We're dealing with water cooled motors and a battery on the 1stGens that sits above and in front of the carburation. There's lots of ir moving through that area. Temps not anywhere near those of the Harley. But if you re-read my first post, if you want the MJ it's $11 bucks more than the standard. They both are built the same, except for the jacket, and with the same performance and warantee. Your call. I'm not sure where the 2ndGen is mounted, but I bet it's in a much cooler area than that of the Harley.
  15. The last time I posted this thread it was pretty short notice and although we did get 5 members to commit it just wasn't enough. But hey, we tried. I just got off the phone with Odyssey, trying to get 2008 pricing from them, and I have some good news. Odyssey agreed to hold the 2007 prices until the end of the month for us. So the prices posted below are still good until 1/31/08. We still need to get 10 members.... or more, but the timing isn't as critical this time around. Here's a cut and paste of the important info..... http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680_sm.jpg For 1stGens the Odyssey is PC680. Your price each to your doorstep will be $99.00. Be aware that this is the non-metal jacket battery. I discussed the application at length with Odyssey , and they reiterated what they had said in the past about not needing the heavier MJ version for our 1stGens. If anyone would like one of the PC680MJ's I'm sure we could get one, but the the difference will be an extra $11.00 bucks. Also take note that the batteries will be fresh from the supplier, and haven't been sitting on a dealers shelf for an extended period of time. http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc545_sm.jpg For 2ndGens the Odyssey is PC545. Your price each to your doorstep will be $94.00. Payments are to be sent via Paypal to paypal@cast-aways.com Bateries will be drop shipped directly from Odyssey, except for those batteries going into Canada. They'll be bluk shipped to us and then shipped from here. There will be a shipping surcharge for those batts shipped to Canada. I'll probably do the same thing as the MAC's which seemed to keep the cost down, and be agreeable with everyone. The prices work out to be Dealer cost plus $15 bucks to cover shipping and paypal charges. Canadian shipment will need to be adjusted once I get one here to do a shipping estimate. If you have any questions, or see something that's missing from the above please PM me. Jack
  16. a trunk rack that fits an 86-93 1stGen. The rack that the trunk and passenger rails mount to. Anyone have one laying around in halfway decent condition. I see them show up on Ebay all the time....until you need one..... For all you members up north I appreciate the thought, but shipping will cost a ton... Thanks for looking. Jack
  17. For loosening them up I just use WD-40. They will pop out of the lower legs with a little carefull coaxing. They are held in by a couple of barbs like the dash vents. To handle the discoloration I've used Krylon Semi-Flat Black. The finish isn't shiny, but it doesn't look like primer either. MOF I have a couple of side vents that need to be done. Something splashed on one side, gray dots all over the place, and I suspect it was DOT 3 from not being extra carefull when bleeding the clutch?? I'll learn....just gimme time...
  18. Man, what a bummer way to start off the new year. Speedy healin prayers sent your direction guys...... I'm a long way off but if there's anything I can do to help out in any way..... shout!!
  19. I'm sure there are other good AGM batteries out there, but I think the reason so many go with the Odyssey is reputation?? I haven't heard of a bad experience with an Odyssey yet... The Metal Jacket ,PC680(MJ), recommendation is only for one bike... The Harley. Seems they viabrate enought to cause problems. At least that's the explanation given to me by their customer service dept.
  20. Noticed the charge voltage you were getting at idle. It shouldn't be 14.5. More like 12.9 You might want to check your rectifyer. If it doesn't cut back on the charge voltage you'll end up boiling your new batt out. Just a thought.
  21. Now that's one heck of an offer. Last time the wife and I did Ruths we were about $250 bucks lighter in the pocket book...... Worth every penny...
  22. Hang Tuff and stay pissed off Lowell. You'll get thru it..... Just think of all the extra fuel you'll be able to afford with that extra ca$h you're not burning....
  23. Tom (dknight) and Steve (hdhtr) did an IB 1000 a couple of years ago. Sacramento, CA./Carson City,NV to El Paso. I think you have to do a 1000 first before you can qualify do one of the longer rides. I think??? In other words you do one and then you have to go back and start over for a longer ride. I did about 3 600's in a week. Whipped my butt.....:buttkick:I'm a whoos!!
  24. It probably would have been more but stopping to take pics took some time.... I was impressed... 'Specially the part about Alaska..... Solo.... But then youse guys are tuff.....
