I'd give 'm a couple more years unless you have a system to secure them safely in the saddle. Basically side rails. My youngest started when she was 8, and boy did she have a death grip on me..... The oldest at 12 lays back in the 'lookin cool' pose......

Just a friendly BUMP!!, and to let everyone know that we have more on the list than originally needed for a group buy. We still have about 12 days to go, so there's plenty of time for others to the join in. I just want to add that we have another member who has taken up the lance, for whatever reason, and is pushing everyone to purchase their batteries from a particular Ebay dealer. That's his choice, and your's too if you choose to do so. The Ebay dealer had the PC680MJ battery listed at $85.00 Buy-it-now, and there were 4 available. This is way below 2007 dealer cost. I have talked to the suppier about this, and they feel it could only be old stock, as the 2006 dealer price would have made the $85.00 possible. Speaking from experience in early 2006 I purchased two 680MJ batteries from the supplier, and they cost right at $95.00 delivered to the door. Shipping charges were $9.00, and they've only gone up .05¢ since then. I'm not making a dime on these batteries, and I thought doing something like this would be a good thing for the group. Call it a VR buying syndicate if you will. The batteries from the group buy will be very fresh, and any warrantee issues can be addressed directly with the West Coast supplier on your invoice. Whichever way you decide to go will be OK by me

Passenger CB/Radio Remote

Yee ouch!!! -
I think one of the reasons milage improves during the winter is that you can pack more fuel into the tank. Gas will expand and contract with the temperature. I know it's stored in underground tanks, but once it hits the outside temp things start to happen. And then again maybe I'm halucinating again.....

Passenger CB/Radio Remote
Condor replied to 86Royale's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The remotes can be found on Ebay occassionally, but they are pricey. If you don't plan on doing a lot of 2-up riding it might not be worth getting one. A slap up along side the helmet works pretty good on gettiing your attention..... Another option is get the passenger there own Ipod. That way she doesn't need to be listening to what you like and visa versa. That and the head slap should work. -
So Todd..... You braggin' or complainin'....:rotf:

FJR Rider and My Relationship With The VentureRiders
Condor replied to FJR Rider's topic in Watering Hole
When I bought my first Venture, and while poking around the internet for information, I found the Venturers Board and their tech library. I then found the Venturerider Board from a link posted on the Venturers site. I don't know if it's still there or not, but.....Thanks!! -
Here's another thought. Just how much weight is on the back tire. In the name of science, somebody needs to put the back end of the bike on a scale and actually see what the rear end weights without anyone on it. On a trailer with a 10,000 GVW the weight is shared by all 4 tires. In other words each tire needs to be 2500# rated. Same thing with our bikes. I'd be very interested in finding out just how much weight we are putting on the rear tire. The factory specs state a max load of about 400#'s, but the weight of the bike at 750-800#s, and the 400 pound load, doesn't come close to the 1500# total rating of both tires. Granted there are other factors that need to be taken into consideration such as axels, and bearings, but I don't think we come close to overloading a rear tire with an 800#+/- rating.

LOL I bookmarked yours too. I'd been using NOAA for their local radar, but it's been a while since I'd been on their main page. Lots of interesting stuff.....

Being a frustrated ex-climatology student in college I have a ton of links to just about everything weather, but the one site I use most of all is UNSIS for a real time idea of what's headed your direction. Make sure you have a broad band connection....

The radio on my '83 does the same thing. Sometimes it plays...sometimes it doesn't. Same thing with the speakers... I think it's dirty plugs under the radio control panal, or the plug into the amp. To lazy to tear into it, so I just let it do it's thing. Besides at 50mph+ you can't hear much anyway.... and my headset sounds like crap....

I'm just wondering. I recollect reading an article on braking somewhere that a 3000# car traveling 60-70mph only weighs about 5-10lbs on each tire due to lift created by air pressure under the chassis. I have no way of substantiating this, but some lift sounds reasonable, and one of the reasons for ground effects flashing and wings to reduce air pressure and increase traction on race vehicles. Now, I wonder if this holds true with a motorcycle. On my 1stGen I can see areas in the fairing that might? produce a downward force at high speed. And maybe the fairings are designed to do more than offer protection from the elements. When it comes to static weight on my bike I can go over the 400# factory specs just sitting on the bike with a sack lunch.... well not quite but close... That's why I can't ride two up. Even loaded up with enough stuff for a 3-4 day trip and I'm way overloaded....without moving. But.... I wonder just how much an 800# bike with 450-500#s of gear and rider weighs at 60-70mph?? Does it still weigh 1250#'s, or is it considerably less. Curious...
