a trunk rack that fits an 86-93 1stGen. The rack that the trunk and passenger rails mount to. Anyone have one laying around in halfway decent condition. I see them show up on Ebay all the time....until you need one..... For all you members up north I appreciate the thought, but shipping will cost a ton... Thanks for looking. Jack

Don't make this mistake
Condor replied to Z Factor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For loosening them up I just use WD-40. They will pop out of the lower legs with a little carefull coaxing. They are held in by a couple of barbs like the dash vents. To handle the discoloration I've used Krylon Semi-Flat Black. The finish isn't shiny, but it doesn't look like primer either. MOF I have a couple of side vents that need to be done. Something splashed on one side, gray dots all over the place, and I suspect it was DOT 3 from not being extra carefull when bleeding the clutch?? I'll learn....just gimme time... -
Man, what a bummer way to start off the new year. Speedy healin prayers sent your direction guys...... I'm a long way off but if there's anything I can do to help out in any way..... shout!!

I'm sure there are other good AGM batteries out there, but I think the reason so many go with the Odyssey is reputation?? I haven't heard of a bad experience with an Odyssey yet... The Metal Jacket ,PC680(MJ), recommendation is only for one bike... The Harley. Seems they viabrate enought to cause problems. At least that's the explanation given to me by their customer service dept.

Noticed the charge voltage you were getting at idle. It shouldn't be 14.5. More like 12.9 You might want to check your rectifyer. If it doesn't cut back on the charge voltage you'll end up boiling your new batt out. Just a thought.

Now that's one heck of an offer. Last time the wife and I did Ruths we were about $250 bucks lighter in the pocket book...... Worth every penny...

Tom (dknight) and Steve (hdhtr) did an IB 1000 a couple of years ago. Sacramento, CA./Carson City,NV to El Paso. I think you have to do a 1000 first before you can qualify do one of the longer rides. I think??? In other words you do one and then you have to go back and start over for a longer ride. I did about 3 600's in a week. Whipped my butt.....:buttkick:I'm a whoos!!

Ran into that article several years ago and it was one of the main reasons I ended up owning a Venture. Great bunch of folks, but mostly a younger crowd with sport bikes. The head honcho Tim now rides a Busa and that's one of the main reasons there are so many sport touring members. There are some great articles and pictures posted by the group and it's well worth the read.

Whine/Chirping - 2nd Gen vs 1st Gen
Condor replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've never rode alongside a 2ndGen with the whine, so I'm kinda in the dark as to what to listen for, but I've had 1stGens that have had the whine. At least it sounds like a jet engine winding up to speed, or a turbo building boost. I believe the gear on the 1stGen clutch boss is straight cut like those on the 2ndGen's boss. At least I think that's what Yamaha is replacing when they install a new clutch basket?? The noise on some of my bikes is more noticible than others, but I've never found it to be anoying to the point that it's driving me nutz. Maybe the 2ndGen sound is different??? -
Replacement Battery 1st gen
Condor replied to Fvogt's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Lee- What was the brand of the battery? The reason I'm asking is that gel batts usually don't take a full 14.5vdc charge that the stator on a Venture will put out without starting to gas. That's why they have a 'gel' setting on most of the chargers that are made today. The gel setting limits the charge rate to 13.4vdc to avoid gassing from happening. If a gel battery gasses the bubbles in the gel will cause electrolite seperation from the lead plates and the battery will suffer an untimely death..... If you're battery is an Odyssey 'Dry' battery this won't happen. -
I'm kinda wondering how it would attach to a scoot with bags and trunk. The hitch looks like it would have to be mounted fairly high. Also I bet that thing is a bear to maneuver around on one wheel when it's loaded. Looks like it would be top heavy....

Plasti-Dip isn't quite the same thing Rick. I use the Liquid Tape all the time when doing marine wiring, and have even used it a couple of times on the bikes. It's applied with a brush and is kinda gooey. Plasti-Dip comes in a spray can and puts a pliable rubber coating on the item, and when it dries you can hardly tell the surface has been painted. Lowell (Wild Hair) turned me on to the stuff after he used it to coat a couple of diaphragms with pin holes. That's what I originally bought it for, but so far haven't got around to using it on the diaphragms. It also seals joints in rain gutters quite well.......

In your last post you stated that the battery was bad, but now the battery is OK, but doesn't live up to your expectations on a bike that has issues...??? And because of that the dealer will refund your money. Good for you. I don't know what your problem is about the way I conduct biz, but that's your opinion. I'm sorry that you missed out on the battery deal. If you needed one that badly you should have spoken up, but you weren't even one of the members that prepaid for a battery to begin with. If you felt that strongly you should have jumped in, but you didn't. However, you're certainly coming up with all sorts of suggestions on how to deal with the supplier after the fact. The original post spelled it out quite clearly that if this list were going to fly we needed to get a group of 10 together in a day and a half. A pretty iffy endeavor. We didn't make it. Live with it.

Dang, I don't see that at all???? But that's taking it from one extreme to the other. What ever happen to a happy medium? Middle of the road? Adiquate? All of a sudden because someone isn't horse power happy it means they don't want any performance at all. Common.........

Why? I have a 5.7 liter Vortec injected Suburban that's pulling 21+ mpg at 80-85mph. The best I've ever gotten out of a small block GM motor, and I've had a lot of them. Computor controls, new technology, and FI can do some great things. Even with large displacement motors.

Dang I like the smell of snow. Around here we don't get much of a chance to experience it, but this morning with temps hovering down close to 30 degs and rainy I could smell snow in the air. It's sort of a clean crisp pure smell that hits the back of the nasal passages. It brought back a lot of memories of upstate New York where I first hit the deck. I hoped that we might actually have a few flakes hit the ground, but it wasn't to be. 500' higher up and I'd have been in the white stuff. It's still below 40 degs at 11AM. Who knows?? Maybe tonight???

If your battery is bad and won't hold a charge why haven't you taken it back before this? And without getting into a debate about ethics, I've been doing business based on my word for over 40 years, and I do see it that way.
