Left side oil leak
Condor replied to mark reed's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm not sure what the price of a new slave is now, but I picked up one from http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ for around $65 bucks a couple of years ago. The difference between the cost of a rebuild kit and new was only about $25, so went with new. There's also http://www.ysppart.com/ in Seattle and they give 25% off yamaha parts. The insides of a clutch slave get pretty ugly after 20+ years, as water settles in the cylinder and rusts things up a bunch. Another reason to change fluids every year..... -
I don't own an IPOD, but my 12 y.o. does. So I have a question. What's the need to have 5000+ tunes stored on an IPOD or MP3 Player??? It's probably more than most major radio stations have in their library... It would take over 10 days to listen to them one at a time, and heaven help you if you maybe repeated a few favorites. I would think finding tunes in memory would also be a problem. I donno...just curious....

Great looking motor Bob, but I'd suggest putting a coat of something on the polished aluminum or it'll dull up in about a year. Don't ask me why I know that..... just take my word for it. Here's a set of passenger boards that I had done for the '83, but decided to put on the '91 with all the bling-bling..... You might want to have yours done too.... http://www.cast-aways.com/images/vrpassengerpadsm.jpg

1stGen Mark II Royales come stock with a nifty trunk light and vanity mirror combination. They can sometimes be found on Ebay. They're run thru a contact switch, but I bet they can be modified to actuate with something like a mercury switch. To my knowledge mercury switches aren't being made any longer because of EPA regs, but there has to be a substitute.

All the 2ndGens picked up PC545's. It looks like all the 2ndGens received their batteries. The only outstandings are two PC680s that are on backorder. Thanks to everyone for putting this one together. ~Condor~

Last year we got them for $195.00 plus shipping which was $25.00 here in the US, and $35 for Canadian. You can look into shipping to Oz. 16# 39"x12"x6" if you'd like. I'd have no problem mailing a set down under. Actually out of curiousity I just ran the numbers and it looks like shipping via Priority Mail would be around $75US.

If you are willing to wait a bit, we'll be doing a group buy for MAC's a little later on this spring.. pro'bly late April. The MAC's are turn down direct replacement slip ons. We've done two buys so far and everyone seems to be pleased with them.

I think any good quality helmet is going to have the brand name right in the finish, but I've seen a few 'el cheapos' made by companies, that private label their helmets, that use decals for obvious reasons....

What I've found is that even though they are annoying when hitting one it's only for a nano-second and not enough deflection to cause a problem. Here in Ca. they are all over the place and if they were a huge problem we'd have riders going down in droves.....

Left side oil leak
Condor replied to mark reed's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There are so many potential leak spots in that general area. One that hasn't been mentioned is the seal for the stator wires. It's right in that left side slave cavity...... -
I hate to be a PITA, but I must be deaf. I have two of the VR Guardians plus another half dozen bells from an auction, and I can't hear anything close to what I'd call a ring. A very quiet clink if I shake it hard, but no ding-a-ling. Now my question is... how in the 'H' am I going to drive my trapped gremlins crazy if the bell doesn't make any noise??? Do I have to go to a small swiss cow bell instead??. I'd rather be safe than sorry...... I want a genuine gremlin killer..... http://www.swisstraditions.com/bells/treicheln_set.jpg

Interesting concept Don. I'm not sure the 'spin' the company puts on Radiated heat isn't a little biased. I remember having a camp heater that was radiating, and one side was hotter than h and the other side froze....but the walls were warm... It was great if you were on a spit..... From a health aspect a radiating system seems to be better than convection, and has merit. I didn't get into the part about reduction of heating costs, but the simple rule is the cost is directly related to the source of the energy used for heating, and unless you can tap directly into the sun there ain't no cheap energy. I think a better way to look at saving money is to insulate. If your home is fairly new you probably have everything insulated to the max, but if it's an older home there's always ways to improve heat loss.

Yeah, Odyssey ships two different ways depending on which is the most economical. I thought they were all going via USPS. A few went UPS. My bad. I should have looked at the invoices closer. Glad you got it OK.

I'm not rigging much of anything Chuck. I am always looking for a good deal on sails because it's how I make my living. I've bought spinnakers in the past off Ebay and done very well on the resale end. My current boat is a 27' Lancer Motorsailer, and it's rigged to the nine's... I just thought the MC logo on the spinnaker was really unusual.

I don't know of any other place that sells Speed-bleeders other than the website. 8125L= Long, 8125 standard. I think you'll find that the seal on the threads will loose it's integrity, and will need to be re-'tefloned' after extensive use. As far as leaking, the speed bleeders at their worse are better than the OEM bleeders at their best. When Speed Bleeders are tightened down they seal exactly the same as the stock bleeders.
