For the first time in a few months I actually rode a scoot. The back is almost 100%, and the weather was awesome. I needed a little welding done on the '91, so decided to ride it over to the welders. Not far but enough to get the feel of being on 2 wheels again.... WooHooo!!! Temps yesterday got into the 70's. I actually cracked a sweat working on the scoot in the afternoon...

Installed Barnett Clutch, have problem
Condor replied to Sleeperhawk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I shoulda thought of that. Steve (hdhtr) and I ran into that problem when we did his and documented it in our write up. Go figure..... http://www.cast-aways.com/clutch.HTM -
And my youngest son was stabbed to death about 4 years ago. I wish he had been packin'..............

And I tossed in a possibility in #6.

'Bout 150 miles to the next gas station......

Yep, only not as many as auto accident deaths..... It's just more sensational. We're kinda used to the highway slaughter, and I don't think you'll be seeing cars outlawed any time soon....... You carry when you ride?

A good way to see if the plates were installed out of alignment is when you pull the clutch plate gently sqeeze the clutch lever with your finger over the end of the push rod to see if there's any movement. If there's movement then the problem's in the plates. If you still have resistence then it could be elsewhere between the slave and the master. One other place to look is if you had the push rods out while working on the basket you may have put the rods back in with the rounded ends against the ball. This will cause the interior rod ends to bind. If you look at the rods, one end has a slightly flat surface. That's the end that goes against the ball. -
I'd have a hard time getting my gut behind that tank......

Geeze youse guys are killing me. I haven't been on the bike in forever...not since the M&E in Woodland. Broke my toe and hyper-extended the top of my right foot by pinning it under the scoot before leaving for the M&E. Off thirteen weeks while it healed. Family oblgations took over during the holidays. Rained like a cow doing it on a flat rock for most of the month of January, and cold to boot.. First sunny day two weeks ago, and I'm ready to get out and blow the cobwebs out of the exhaust, and I blow my back out in the AM. The worst since I was a kid and spent two weeks in the hosipital in traction. Couldn't move out of the recliner for 5 days, and don't ask me about taking care of a call of nature. So...... everyone whose snowbound, rainbound, I really feel for you.....

Ay Carumba!!! But I guess it's probably cheaper in the long run as they say it's a 'lifetime' treatment. I may have to try some in the '83.

Both style side covers are the same in every other aspect, and you can modify one of the very earlys buy fabbing a metal tab on the bottom edge. I've only seen one early side cover where the snap on opening wasn't busted and needed to be repaired.

That waterless Evans coolant is interesting stuff. Looks like it's being run in quite a few different makes of bikes. Anyone ever used it, and does anyone know what the price of a gallon would be. I tried to find it on the sight but got impatient.....

That's a tough one. Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. You'll eventually get over it. Prayers of peace for the family.

There is a difference between the early side covers and the later '83's. The early sides had a different attachment at the bottom that fit over a rubber post on the strut. The later models from late 83 to 93 had the tab and pull strap. Hope this helps.... Make sure you get the style you need. On the VXE issue the original selling dealer probably wrote the Z as a european zed with the line thru the middle and the DMV pisked it up as an E.

84 brake seals
Condor replied to PEIslander's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Man I can't believe I've forgotten, and I've rebuilt all the early mark I calipers. If I foggily remember correctly the rear caliper piston is larger than the fronts, and they sell the seals and 'O' ring seperately for each side/piston??? I guess the front 'kit' came with 2 of each so only takes one 'kit', and is priced that way. The rear seals have to be bought seperately as there isn't a 'kit' so you'd need to buy 2?? i think........ -
Tell that to the navigator.....

When I went to the IMS show last year I picked up a couple of bottles of this stuff http://www.metalgloss.com/ to try. Not cheap, but I'm impressed. It a 2 part system. Polisher/remover, and sealer. When aluminum is exposed to air it will surface oxidize and loose it's high gloss. If let go long enough it'll pit the surface. I guess that's why Yamaha coats all the aluminum. More to keep it maintenence free than as a finish. Yep.... already done the risers too. They haven't been installed yet, but they'll be on the '91 shortly.
