I think the only way, here in the US, is to keep track of the vin number for each year. Assuming the highest recorded VIN would be close to the last made for that particular year. I've been tracking sales on Ebay and quite a few of the Ventures are listed with VIN #'s. I could go back and find the highest VIN for each model year, if we decided to set up some sort of a registry???

Heel toe shift
Condor replied to Kurt827's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks...at least I know it's me and not the set up.....I guess I'll have to start educating my heel :-) I've also noticed that the pedals don't extend past the edge of the boards front and back like I've seen other set ups. I end up having to sneak my big foot in under the front pedal. There ain't a whole lotta room. Maybe this set up isn't for me. I'll give it a few more weeks, and if I still can't get used to it, it's off to Ebay.... -
Heel toe shift
Condor replied to Kurt827's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've got a question. Which pedal is up and which is down. I'm having a heck of a time getting used to the heel/toe on the '91 and wonder if that might be the case here. Right now heel is up and toe is down..... Seems like it should be the other way around??? -
The only difference I can think of might be the spring tension?? I've taken good used 83-85 diaphragms and put them in 86-93's and visa versa without any bad experiences..... but I do try to keep the original springs. Maybe I've been screwing up??? But they run..... ?? Anyone actually know what the difference would be??? Now I'm really curious.....

There's several videos on yourtube about HHO. It's a gas produced from water that has uses in welding, and as an alternative fuel for vehicles. The big problem is it takes more energy, in the form of electricity, to make then the power the gas produces. It's not efficient cost wise. It has more value as a welding gas then as an alternative fuel..

We repaired a couple of diaphragms on HDHTR's '91 a couple of years ago with liquid tape and as far as I know they are still doing good. Buddy Rich did the application after washing the phram down with alcohol. That along with a carb sync and Steve was braggin' about his 48 mpg, and said he was afraid to touch it.....

The AVON warantee is right up there around where you live George. Email Keith at kost@avonmotorcycleusa.com See what he says about thicknesses etc. And if it's only been a year you may have some pro-rated warantee coming??

The problem you run into Mike is that the air bubbles continue to rise up into the lines, and gravity doesn't flow quick enough to force them out down at the slave. Same thing happens when you try to pump fluid thru using the lever. You have to go slowly or you'll end up with fluid splashing out of the reserve. Still not fast enough to carry the bubbles out below. Reverse bleeding is easy and you get ALL the air out of the system.
-
Speed Bleeders work great for changing out the fluids, if there's no air in the lines, but if there is, it's an SOB to get it out bleeding normally. As GeorgeS pointed out the best way to get the air out is reverse bleed from the slave up.

I have a pair of the darkest polorized perscription shades I could get and had them ground for distance. When I put them on my eyes go 'Ahhhhh!!' When I stop for any reason, or when riding at night, I put on my photo-sun bifocals. Nothing beats eye strain like polorized sunglasses.

I did the same thing. Can't figure out what was going thru his mind, but good on ya anyway Orrin. Persistence does pay off. Get that puppy over here and let's sync'm.....

California VR Emission model
Condor replied to okscooter's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
All the canister does is suck gas fumes into it when the engine is turned off and allows the engine to pull those fumes back in when started. My feelings are that the canister doesn't make an engine run better or worse...when new, but over the years all those old extra hoses and connections create a potential place for intake air leaks to occur. The canisters are ancient carb technology. I'd remove it if the bike has one. IMHO....- 10 replies

I feel your pain Todd..... Yeah, I've had a bad back ever since my early 20's when I ruined it helping a friend unload some rolls of chain link fencing from a pickup. When it happened I saw little white dots falling from the sky. Spent 2 weeks in the hospital in traction. No fun.. I've had back 'cramps' ever since my college round ball days, but this was an injury. The Docs said I stretched the trans ligament in my lower back 2 inches. Two weeks ago I stretched in the shower and felt a pop but no pain. Kinda like cracking your knuckles... Got out and started doing some light lifting, and had to quit right in the middle after the pain got so bad I could hardly move. Spent the next 5 days in the recliner and munchin' Motrin. Worst pain since the chain link accident. They say old sports injuries never go away, and start cropping up again when you get older. Guess what???

I can't tell the difference, but I did actually see a canister in the wild once. Removing it was probably the first thing a new owner did.... It's just a matter of pulling the hoses off the manafold bibs and putting caps on them except for #2 which has a hose that leads to the vacuum booster on all models except the '83.- 10 replies

Range of motor replace..........
Condor replied to Gone14S's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Keep your eye on Ebay. 'hess4less' in SoCal generally sells engines for cheap when he get's them in. I picked up an extra '88 1300 off Ebay from a seller in 29 Palms about a year and a half ago. It had 44,000 miles on it and came with the carbs for $300 plus fuel to run down and pick it up. When I got there he tossed in enough extra bike parts to choke a horse. Basically he cleaned out his garage with what was left after ebay. Filled up the bed of the pick-up..... I think I've sold enough to pay for the fuel down and back.....maybe?? -
California VR Emission model

I currently have 4 1stGens. One from out of state..TX, one originally from N.Mex, and 2 from here in CA '83/'87. None of them are canistered and the DMV never checked when I registered them here in the state. MOF I had to take the TX bike down to the DMV to have it inspected, and since the inspector couldn't find the EPA lable, he just said the heck with it and ran the papers as is. I think since bikes are exempt from the bi-yearly smog check requirement it really doesn't make any difference and the DMV looks in another direction.....- 10 replies

I just go to view and source. Copy the HTML and paste to a doc file. I can then paste it to an wysiwyg editor in html mode, go to normal, and smooze to my liking.....

How remove emblems from tank?
Condor replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I warm the emblem up a bit using a hair drier, and then like Eck use a piece of 80# mono fishing line to cut thru the glue. Once it's off you'll need to clean up the back of the emblem...I use a fillet knife... and replace the two sided tape. I found tape at my local auto paint store. Not cheap but man does it hold. -
pegs vs floorboards
Condor replied to 91nwl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good question, but I think it depends on the individual as to what feels comfortable. My '83 is pegged and I'm very confortable riding in the feet back position. or full forward on the highway pegs. My '91 has boards and heel/toe shifter, and I have big feet. The heel/toe sits right over the floor board and doesn't offer a whole lot of room for the foot without getting tangled in the shifter. I'm finding that the setup doesn't let the foot go as far forward as with the pegs and does creat an uncomfortable riding position. Now keep in mind that I haven't looked into any adjustments yet and boards/shifter were set up for another rider. And I hope that there are adjustments, or I'll probably convert the '91 back to peg and toe. Another thing I'm having problems with, so far, is re-educating my toe to do the heel/toe dance.- 13 replies
