No, but I have bought several rifles off GunBroker in the past from all over the US. The Pedersoli Sharps came from a local party. I was looking for the same 'big 50' gun in 50-90 and ran across this one. Had to have it. Got a great deal on it along with powder, ball, primers, dies, etc. Still looking for the 50, but not as hard... :-) As Don pointed out the 444 Marlin may not be a Pistol round, but I know for sure the 454 Cassul is. I have it in a lever action Rossi 92, but most of the ammo can be found in the pistol listings. It'll knock down trees as well.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.454_Casull And.... last but not least... the Henry Mare's Leg Pistol in 44mag. That'd be my choice for brush bustin'.... https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/mares-leg/

GunBroker is where I usually look to find values, and see what's available. Since Cowboy competition has become popular a lot of the old calibers are coming back again. I gotta chuckle at that one Puc. Here's my 45-70 Pedersoli 1874 Sharps. Some day I'm gonna have to take a few better pics....

When I bought the Ariel Square I wasn't much of a gear head. It was learn by necessity, and with a lotta help from the guys in the back room of Milne Bros (Ariel Dealer) in Pasadena, CA. When ever something broke they'd set me down in the corner of the shop and toss advice at me. Like when the compensator spring broke at the rear hub, and the primary chain broke and pyramided between the two cranks. If it had locked up the rear wheel at 65 mph on the freeway I might not be here... Also the square had a fairly short run from the 40's to 1959, the last year they were produced, and Ariel went under. That's probably why they weren't around in the mid 60's. I bought mine used from an mechanical engineer friend in 1958 for $350 bucks!! Back then the Jap invasion hadn't happened yet. Mostly UK and US bikes. Triumph, BSA, Ariel, Harley, Indian were the main players. Back in high school I did play around with a Simplex for a while. Those were some great memories....

Yep wish I still had mine too... Loved that bike. 1000cc's back when 750 was about tops. And the exhaust howl when going thru the gears full twist. Music to the ears... It was my daily transportation all over SoCal back in the early '60's. 1953 overhead, 4 speed, gears on the right.. brake on the left.

Way back when Marlin introduced a lever action in 444 that was designed to hunt in the very same terrain you're talking about. The 444 is a straight walled round, so should be legal?? Henry also puts out a lever in 45-70gov that should knock down every twig for 50 yards and not change POA. If you're into levers??

Why feet forward only on a touring bike does not work for Tip and I..

I think those were put out by Markland. Definitely made for riding slab.... -

Maybe that why I like to watch the Barrett Jackson and Mecum auctions so much. It's not the cars..well maybe...but the auctioneer.... :-) I've spent some quality 'nap' times in the recliner with them on.

You can remove the LH turn signal and get to it too.... Might be a little easier than pulling the headlight... But gotta agree if anything major needs to be addressed pulling the cover is best... And might as well replace all the insturement bulbs while you're at it...

Yep, the mid controls of the '83 were the most comfortable ride I've had. I can go for miles CTFW in the laid back position, and occasionally moving the foot forward to the highway peg. Mid-controls are also great when riding in the twisties and carving arcs. Even though I ride 2ndGens now, I have never been quite as comfortable as when riding a 1stGen. But like you said in the video.. different strokes for different folks... Glad to see you finally found a tripod.. :-) Now you need to do the videos on a Sunday AM instead of rush hour by the Santa Ana Freeway.... -
All of the above are some great advice, but here's a way-out thought. Rather than re-inventing the mouse trap to make it work, why not get a trike?? At 5'4" it must be a PITA dealing with height issues. I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum, and a tall bike has never been an issue, but getting old and loosing one's balance occasionally is scary. So I now have a trike. With a trike it's get on and enjoy the ride... If I were shorter, no matter what the age, I'd seriously give a trike a thought.. . IMHO

Hey Ed. Thanks for posting that pic of the '83. Now the photo album is up to date. I forgot to take a few when you brought her down off the hill on the last visit. Now we all need to see her brought back to life... once again... :-) On the new life style.. I'm jealous!!

On the '83 I first experienced a 'groan' when I first took off in the AM on a cool morning. First happened up in Susanville on VWest3. Scared the living cr@p out of me. New2me bike..first long trip... After stopping a couple of times it went away until another cool morning. Some members suggested it was speedo cable related, and I lubed everything I could think of. No luck. I finally found the upper speedo attachment to the instrument cluster was very loose and almost falling off. Got in there and tightened it back down and life was good again... Plus I had a very well lubed speedo cable... :-)

I see some folks refering to the Rectifier as a Voltage Regulator. Yamaha calls it a Rectifier. Which is it??? -
Don't feel too bad. Here's a little more history on her since then. When I bought the '99rsv I sold the bike to my son. He didn't treat her all that well and she finally ended up out on my back patio non-op'd. Mr @Zzyzx in Grass Valley ended up buying her and doing a restoration. He did an awesome job, and when he rode her down from the hills it purred like a kitten. A few months later Ed's house burned to the ground along with the detached garage and his two bikes took a lot of damage. The '83 took the brunt of the damage and heat. His '99rsv faired a little better and it's now running around Tennessee. The '83 is in storage and I'm not sure whats happened to her. Been thinking about calling Ed and getting the rest of the story....

That's way above my paygrade... :-) However I have a question. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the charge systems on the 1st and 2ndGens rated at 26amps?? OK I lied...one more. Why didn't I cook the battery on the 99RSV over three solid days of riding at 17vdc?? Rather, I depleted it down to an El Cheapo meter reading of 8.9vdc.... -

I got all that resistence-pipe size,volts-pressure, and amps-water flow analogy down fairly good. The 18 foot will only go into the 12 shoe just so much in and then it won't fit any longer. Unless of course you try to jamb the rest of the foot in by increasing pressure and then the resistence..wire.. can't handle it can't handle it and burns up. But... if the control tap-rectifier will only let a small amount of water thru to the flowers the chance of the hose bursting does't exist.... IMHO -

OK I 'd like to see the math that supports your statement. I've seen chargers or power supplies that will put out 12vdc@1amp, and others that will put out 12vdc@50amps. I have a battery charger that puts out 1a,10a,50a@12vdc. 17vdc pressure is not that much greater than 12vdc... So my thinking is the pipe is only dripping?? :-) -

I've related this story before, and some of you are probably getting sick of me telling it, but I rode for 3 days on a DEKA AGM battery at 17vdc on a 1300 miles trip. When it died I stuck it on a charger and it took a full charge and it's still in the bike today. I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say that it's not the volts that will get you but the amps. 17vdc at .25 amps won't kill a battery. 17vdc at an uncontrolled amperage charge will BBQ one. Replaced the rectifier and everything is 'Hunky Dory'... :-) -
Which reminds me.... Back when we had a fairly big group of Venture Riders in the area we got together and went to a BBQ/shin-dig at one of the local MC shops. When we got there we had to split up a bit in the jammed parking lot. There were lots of folks wandering around in the lot looking at the different bikes, and I had a small crowd around the '83VR. They couldn't believe how old she was when I told them.. Kinda took me back a bit seeing that, and there were more than one of the latest and greatest parked there too. Had to puff out the chest a little on that one.... :-)

My bad, I thought you said you had used the eBay points in an OEM pump. That's what the first post was asking...
-
That's what we need to know. Now I have one question... Maybe two?? Hydra-locks and leaks are mechanical in nature. How does an electrical set of breaker points effect them?? Perhaps the OEM fuel pump had more issues than just the points??
-
The original question was whether anyone had tried to use the point set from one of the eBay fuel pumps. Have you??
