  1. The frame needs to be removed to get at the 83-85 while the 86 up has a flip up panel.... Everything else is the same. When you filled the reserves make sure you didn't over fill them, and another thing to check is the rear master switch float being held down in the empty position by the rubber 'accordian' and it giving you a false low fluid reading.

    #1 Song ...

Something by the Jimmy Dorsey Band..... who the 'H' is that.....
  3. Copied from another thread..... Here's my position on shimming Squeeze. If the handle bar masters are going to slip or rotate on the tubing with shims, they would do it without the shim because of improper torqueing. 6mm bolts will give plenty of torque compression to make the masters stationary. The weak point will be the threads in the aluminum body due to over torquing , and that exists, shims or not. I understand what you're talking about in delinking. I hadn't thought about the rear master driving the 2ndGen front caliper. I wonder if it could??? The 2ndGen calipers I have are the 2 piston varity with the floating offside pads. I wonder if it's the right way to go??? Hmmmm.... Got to think about this somemore....
  4. Squeeze, I think we've done enough to pirate this thread. I'm going to copy you last post to the 1stGen area, and go from there. Sorry Folks!!! Back to light switches...... :-)
  5. Yep, it's the 'O' ring in the valve on the front of the engine. When they get a little old and stiff they leak a few drops when the temps turn cold during the winter. For the most part they don't leak during warmer season's. Mine's leaked a couple of times after riding all day and then letting the bike sit at night when the temp's really dipped. Like I said it's only done it a couple of times and I'm not going to worry about it until it does it all the time. From what others have posted replacing the 'O' ring isn't a big deal when it comes time...
  6. OK Squeeze, you're going to have to explain to me why a solid shim, say out of machined aluminum, would be dangerous, and also why I'd need to de-link the brakes. I don't see it.
  7. Thanks for the heads up Squeeze. I can't see any problem shimming the 1" masters if done properly, and I also have a set of 2ndGen calipers to use. And if it gives me any problems I can always slap the old system back on.
  8. Another thought just came to mind. Check your sidestand switch and see if it's working. Happened to me once.
  9. Took a bit but I gotcha Bob.... However.... all I can see is your back. You need to reposition the camera so we can see what's happening. Do you have sound???
  10. i think it's more than just the holes. The 2gen masters have a more rounded shape, while the 1st's are boxier. Might not look as nice when installed?? Actually I picked up a mint set of 2ndGen masters that I planned on mounting on the '87, but now may put them on the newer2me '91. They fit a 1" bar, but I planned on shimming them with something. Then I can install that switch.....
  11. Man I can vouch for that. When I bouight it he '91 had a cover that looked like a piece of swiss cheese with foam over the holes to act as a some type of filter because some of the holes were drilled right into the area inside the filter. First thing I did was toss it and put a good one on. What a difference....
  12. First things first Bob. The engine will run like crap with the top of the air cleaner off. The gas pooling is probably a bowl needle not closing and the bowl over filling. Ps the webcam idea is cool....but I'm not getting anything??
  13. There's also a collapsible rubber gasket like on the front masters that will become 'unpleated' from use. It's a PITA but it helps to get it folded back up. Removing the reserve and top is about the only way to get the thing totally compressed again. I fudge and use a stiff piece of plastic rod to get it 'sorta' up. Not perfect, but it helps.
  14. Geeze.... If you do take up fishin', do it from the bank. Boats sink..... Maybe it's time to go out and pop for a new bike.. With a 5 year warantee... When I buy a used scoot I always plan on it having problems that the previous owner isn't disclosing. Sounds like your Wing has a major short in the system to run an Odyssey down that quickly.... May a bit 'o Irish luck decend on your shoulder.... and beat the c**p out of those highway gremlins...
  15. I've found that newspaper under the t-shirt will help.... Don't ask me how I know that....
  16. 15mpg is pretty good. When I pull my 6x12 Wells Cargo with my F250 Diesel, milage goes to hell in a hand basket. I usually get 15-16 on the highway and it'll drop into the 11-12 range. It's a tandem and loaded to the max, but I think it's still wind resistence that does the most damage.
  17. Wish they made something like that for a 1stGen..... Sigh!!
  18. At one time I had two '83VR's. One with Avons and progressives, and one without and EII's. Otherwise they were twins. The difference in handling was another story. The Avons felt light and nimble, and the EII's felt heavy. Kinda sluggish. I did make the change to Progressives before switching to Avon's and didn't that much of a change in handling. However fork compression was greatly reduced. The big change came with the Avon's. I wouldn't go any other way. My 2¢
  19. OK, and was this one with an S&S motor, or, as Max pointed out in the previous post, one of the last motors built, that seemed to cause the demise of CMC???? Electrical happens. Do a search on this board for 'ignition' and see what happens,,,, And like I stated before, if it was an S&S motor, give 'm a call. Maybe the bike I saw was one of the originals built in the first year?? It looked good, sounded good, and ran great. Sounds like your buddy has one of the last ones.....
  20. AVON's will even make it handle even better. Order them from SouthWest Moto. Order two and the shipping's free....
  21. I had them listed here in Classified, but caught a bunch of flack from a member about the price, so I said the heck with it, life is too short, and removed the listing. I've been running them locally on Craig's List for $125 bucks and sold a few. They retail for about $235 and you can find them on sale for $199. The helmets are RJ-Air Platinums 3/4's. In White I have 1/sm, 2/med, and 2/lg. In Red I have 1/med, and 1/lg., and in DkGray I have 1/med. Attached are a couple of pics. PM me if you're interested......
  22. Hmmmm!!! Thought that's what the tiedowns were for. Live and learn....
  23. Now that looked like a kick in the A$$.... Talk about catching air!!
