BUMP!!!!!
-
I'll be getting back to all of those on the list with all the payment details and color choice Brad. I like the black one too. The '91 already has a bare aluminum on it, and it's coming off in lieu of the black. The '83 and the '87 are running bare..... 17 more for the $50 dollar level.... Think we can make it?

Thanks for the insight Rick. I think by now most of the fork covers have disintigrated on the 90-93's. I have a set of really neat fork covers on the '91 that Black Owl made for me. Super Brace has the same part number for all the 1stGen years, so I think they presumed the fork covers had become toast too. I've run into a plastic plug somewhere?? that would also make a great rain water protector. Jack

It gets the front forks to act in unison for better performance. Hand in there Jim. I'm going to talk to them and see about making them for the 2gen...if they even need them??? Researching.....

I just fired off a PM to Freebird about the possibility of spamming the 1stGen members to drum up more interest. Here's where I'm coming from. I don't make a dime on the group buys, and in one case, like last years Odyssey, I actually lost a couple of bucks. But that's not the point. The point is that I'm not loaded, and in the case of these fork braces, I can't just go out on a limb and tie up $1200 to $2000 by buying 20 or 40 braces and then turn around and make them available to members over an extended period of time trying to recoupe. If it were a business investment, where I'm making a profit, that would be another story, but it's not. Again, I don't mind doing it, but would need some sort of assurance that my investment dollars would be back in the fold as quickly as possible. Don't get me wrong. I do enjoy doing this for the members. So, tell your fellow 1stGen riders and spread the word. If we get close to the 40 we'll all save another $10 bucks!!! AND.... Mark just sent me a pic of the brace in black anodized. Pic attached. Anyone want black?? I'm taking one for the '91...

Exhaust Confusion
Condor replied to skooter's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like you're missing the copper exhaust gaskets that fit between the muffler and the collector. Kinda pricey at around 15-17 bucks per. If that's your problem and you can wait, the best price would be from that Yamaha dealer in Seattle, but if your in a hurry bite the bullet and visit your local dealer.... I've found an aftermarket gasket that works fairly well from a local independant. A little cheaper. Instead of copper it's what looks like a leaden mixture. Anyway it's lasted a couple of years so far. -
I've only dropped a bike once... OK twice if you want to count the slide thru that intersection back in my early 20's... The only thing you can do is try to make it a controlled drop. Forget about trying to muscle it back up once it decides to go down. If you're able to soften the impact and let 'er down easy, generally nothing's gonna get busted except your ego...

Hey, Since you started it I just thought you were trying to help out a bit. My bad. Sorry... Adding a name to the list by using the quote works for me......
-
Squeeze, you are officially designated 'keeper of the list'.....
-
LOL Thanks Ed.... I wonder who would have done that....
-
Thanks Dan, I'm feeling a little more confident about ordering 20 of these puppies. I'm going to see how many actually express an interest the rest of today and tomorrow. With my 2 we're up to around 9...I think??
-
Could be Brad, but I don't recall ever having seen a post about it???
-
Yeah.... I've already seen yours. Looks great... But......where's the pics???
-
I doubt it, but you can put a clear coat on anytime. MOF I'm thinking about buffing it out, and then shooting it with a clear coat...or two... Ya can't have everything. I'm going to be on the hook for two of them. One for the '83 and one for the '87. The '91 already had a brace when I bought it, and if I ever get around to rebuilding the '93 it'll get one too. The alternative is popping for one of the Super Braces at $143.95 plus shipping off their website... They may not look as nice as the new Super Braces, but I'm more interested in performance first...looks second, and at less than half the SB they're very affordable. With the economy in the dumpster I would think this brace would be a no brainer.... But, realistically if I can't get enough members interested, it was worth the try....

BJ The OEM's are sort of a domed affair with waffle bracing on the bottom. If your's is a solid block that looks like the pics I posted above then you don't need another. If it looks like the one below, you're a prime candidate....

Anyone else????????????????
-
By now you've seen the above post, but something else has come to mind, and that is shipping to our Canadian members. I'll try my best to keep the price down, but unfortunately there might be an extra charge tacked on to the total...... That goes for you too Squeeze.....

Gosh how could I have forgotten.... Here ya go Squeeze. http://i10.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/e4/c5/0c81_1.JPG http://i13.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/e4/c5/155e_1.JPG http://i2.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/e4/c5/b5dd_1.JPG

You might even try putting the side stand up and down a couple of times... even letting it bang back. Sometimes the side stand switch will stick.

Thanks Eck. Sometimes we forget.....

OK, I'm posting this in the 1stGen Tech section due to it being, like the MAC Mufflers, for 1stGens only. I've traded a few emails and phone calls with the Ebay seller who has been auctioning fork braces, I need to know how many 1stGeners would be interested in doing a group buy. Here's the deal. For an order of 20 his price will be $60ea., and for an order of 40 he'll drop it to $50 per. The shipping will be in bulk to me no-charge, and then forwarded to those of us who have raised their hands. Of course there will be individual shipping and paypal charges on top of the quoted price. I estimate the paypal at $2 bucks and the shipping could be as low as $6.50 Priority depending on weight, if it qualifies, or $8.95 Flat Rate if it doesn't. The manufacturer is checking the individual weight for me. He's been shipping Flat Rate off Ebay, but I'm thinking it may go cheaper regular priority?? My question is... Would this be something that enough of us would be interested in to qualify for the 20 or 40 price,?? And I'd need to know with in the next couple of days. I don't want to stick my neck out and pre-order 20....that's $1200 bucks..., and it fall flat. I noticed on the Super Brace web site that they have the same part number for all 1stGen's, so I assume this brace will fit all years too.... So....please let me know and if there is enough interest we'll start a group buy...

I can say that my Whistler GPS hasn't led me astray.... yet, and it seems to do great when I make an unscheduled detour. Persistant as all get out trying to get me back on track. And for what I paid for it off WOOT, I'm a happy camper. The only thing I can complain about is seeing the screen in direct sunlight.
