  1. Hmmm... Never heard of that one before. Oh well, anyway my dns is officially flushed. Cleaned out my browser history, cookies, and stored pages. Things are definately getting better...
  2. The only way to tell if it is actually a 1300cc would be to take a look at the clutch, although even that isn't always 100%. I thought about the possibility of the dealer pulling a fast one and swapping out the covers and telling the guy they had installed a 1300. Except... according to the son the bike had developed a bad 2nd gear, and that was the reason they went with the '86 1300....
  3. Last Pic Post....
  4. pics continued
  5. OK here's a bunch of pics I took a bit ago.
  6. You're covered Tim. #9. I lied in the email....
  7. Yeah it was cheap. I can't pass up a deal....
  8. Once in a while Ebay will have a flury of starters up for auction. I've picked up a new NOS, and a low hr. mint for less than $50 bucks. The old starters can be rebuilt, but basically it's a new set of brushes, clean up the inside, and it's going again... I don't think there's actually a rebuild kit for one??
  9. Thought about that myself Margaret, but this speedo is in MPH, and I think everyone else is KPH???
  10. If you talked real hard and did a super sales job I might... read might.... trade one 1st for a two gen, but only if they kicked in a little green to sweeten the deal....
  11. Actually a new crated motor from yama mama doesn't have anything stamped on the serial number plate. The stamping looks factory, but ya never know... It may have been an NOS. I'm still pokin' around. OK I just went out and stood on my head to see the vin on the fork. DA000316... Matches the title and decal... and motor. I thought at first that they may have taken a bunch of stuff off an '84 and put it on a red '83 standard, but all the labels say Royale. Now I'm confoosed. Going to go take a nap....
  12. Actually they must have done more than that. This one has factory cruise on it like an '84. Missed that the first time around. I also haven't been able to get to the frame Vin yet to check to see if it matches the decal. The place that originally sold the bike to the PO used , was a parts salve shop, and after changing to a used bike retailer in the 80's, selling out to a new owner in early 2000, they finally went out of business last year.... They did a great job mounting my Avon for me the last time around... Anyway, They could have taken an '83 title, the side decal strut, lic. plate, put it on an '84 bike. The frame vin number stamped on the front fork tube will tell the tale... The PO kept very good maintence records, and he first bought it in 1991 with 13K on the odo, and to muddy the waters even further the bike had an '86 1300cc motor put in it 11K ago.. And..... the serial number of the motor matches the vin on the tag, and on the '83 title. It's an inigma... conundrum.....head scratcher... Never have enough JT. As long as I keep running into VR's cheap I'll keep buying them.
  13. It's been my understanding that all the '83 1200TDK Royale's came in Gold, and the standard 1200TD's came in Red, plus a Black Midnight. That's what it also says for the colors in the tech section. Well guess what kimosabe?? I just bought a 1983 1200TDK in RED.... The born on date shows 10/83, but the serial number is a low DA000316. From the date I thought it might be possible to have a late '83 model that had received '84 clothing. But the serial number says it's the 216th Royale built? I like to play detective and figure things out by looking at the clues, but this thing has me stumped??? It's definately rare...
  14. I feel for ya Don, but you know what they say?? If you like to play tennis....don't become a tennis pro....
  15. I fouind this while pokin' around Ebay. From time to time there's been some talk about a FI system on a Venture. I don't know, but perhaps someone would be interested???
  16. That's a lot of info to digest Jeremy. Lost me half way thru. But gotta ask. When you connected the co-ax to the base of the antenna did you take the shield (outer braided cover) and ground it to the frame. A lot of CBers will use a 3/8ths nut to connect the center to the base of the antenna using a plastic washer to isolate the antenna from the mount and then solder the shield and crimp it into a eye connector and attach it so that it makes contact directly with the mount. Also, I can't remember, but does the radio body need to be grounded also??? Keep getting VHF and CB stuff mixed up. Good luck....

At least 4 works Don. I did like some of the new styling on 5, but for all the grief it causes???

Sent you an email responding to your post Don. Several times I couldn't access the site for long periods of time, ergo the email.. I still think it's the server. Basically I can tell when the board's available because I start getting email post notices. When I can't access, the notices are not being sent. I even got a couple of duplicates earlier.???
  20. 'Geeze it sounds like everybody's wobbling...... Here's my story on the Venoms. I've had 3 venoms on the front of the '83. The first two were replaced under warantee, and the 3rd, built at a different time, is doing fine. The '83 has Progressive fork springs. With all three tires I've not had so much as a wobble. What I have felt is road condition because of the aggressiveness of the Avon. I can hit a pebble and know it, and those cement groves in highways get the front end hopping' all over the place. Get on smooth black top and everything settles right down. I've just learned to live with the 'tackyness' of the tire, and it doesn't bother me any longer. I just let the front end do it's thing. I don't take my hands off the bars when ever I get into a wiggle situation, but when on a smooth surface I have no qualms about not holding onto the bars up into triple digits.
  21. LOL!!.... You're on the list Jason......
  22. I don't know if you've looked at this write up we did on hdhtr's clutch, but it might give you a few ideas. Also pull the plate off and very gently pull back on the grip lever while keeping you finger over the push rods. If you can feel movement, the problem is in the basket, not the slave and back.
