Fork Brace List
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Should be any day now. Most of those going to Canada went out on 5/30, and they quoted 6-10 days transit time. Be patient Grasshopper..... -
That's possible, but when the motor is running it works great???. And why with one brake and not the other.???
-
I thought about that too, but it doesn't explain why when using the rear brake which draws just as many amps as the front it doesn't show the big battery draw on the meter.?? And the meter shows normal charge without the load. As soon as I can find my Beckman...or go buy another multi-tester... I'll check voltages. BTW, the three white wire plug has been removed and the wires are run direct.

Didn't make any difference which one Buddy. And I'm still running the OEM fuse block...JT

OK, here's the symptoms.. This afternoon while waiting at a signal I looked down at my amp gauge, and it shows a deep discharge. The turn signal was on, and the front brake was on. So I had a bunch of lights going on, and the amp meter fell every time the signal blinked, or the front brake was applied.. However... when I applied the rear brake the change needle barely showed any draw, and the rear brake light did light up. Rode it home from the Doc's and never had any trouble starting it, and as long as I didn't use the blinkers or the front hand brake the gauge show'd normal charge. Now I just went out to check things out again, and without starting the engine, I put on the left and right turn signal they lit up but didn't blink. They did show a big battery draw. I fired up the engine and tried them and away they went and blinked like they were supposed to. All lights, including the headlight, were bright, running or not. Any ideas? This is really weird... I might also add that the bike has a new battery.

Sticky button on radio
Condor replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Would Radio Shack carry them?? Not a whole lot of TV repair shops left in this area.. We just toss 'm rather than fix 'm. -
Are you using a flash card reader, or dedicated software and an interface USB cable??

Sticky button on radio
Condor replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dan, The cover of the radio comes off with 4 side screws. Fairly easy, but.... I don't think you'll need to remove it. The buttons are held in with a compression barb at the end of the button shaft and a spring fits around the shaft. The button is incased in a cavity to keep water out. Try spraying with an electrical cleaner directly thru the spaces around the side of the button. It should free up. If not the spring has probably broken and you'll need to get in there. Attached are a couple of pics to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. -
I remember back in hi school Standard had three grades. I can't remember the octane of the lower two, regular and ethel, but the 'Supreme' was 102 octane. Made my POS 53 Ford run like it was new... I also remember a sales meeting back in Ithaca NY where a bunch of us were trying to catch a flight to Kennady out of Thomkins County, and we ran out of gas in the rental just before getting to the airport because the idiot salesman from SoCal was to cheap to spend a couple of bucks on gas for the week we were there. So we sat there by the side of the road and watched as our plane took off. We made the guy hoof it to get fuel. So what does he do... We didn't know it but he goes and gets a gallon of avgas. We get the car started and finally get to the terminal. We pile out of the car to see what kind of conections we could salvage, and when the jerk turns the key off the damn rental car sat there and just kept dieseling. Never did stop. That's when he told us about the source of the fuel. Very high octane.... Sorry...wandering off and telling stories again....

I need a license plate bracket
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Planning on putting it on Ebay to try and recover some of the cash laid out to buy the scoot. Dan, if you're interested PM me, and we can talk?? -
I donno Mike. I put 365K on a 6.9 F250, and now have 240K on the 7.3 F250...it'll be lucky to hit 241 @ $5 bucks a gallon...., but high compression doesn't neccessarily mean an early death. High compression in a gas engine that isn't designed to handle the high compression will. Before the F250's I owned a '73 GMC 350 3/4T 4x4 that I put 350K on, but I rebuilt that motor 5 times. Wore 2 builds out and broke the other 2. From what I understand #5 is still going strong in the foothills above Sacramento. 100K was the most I could expect out of a build. For the money I spent on the gas 350's I could have rebuilt the 6.9 a couple of times. Economical? I seriously doubt that anything except a rubber band can be considered economical any longer.....

Dying out and dim lights at low RPM?
Condor replied to Ohedron42's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Your stator doesn't start to put out until around 2500 rpm, and anytime it isn't putting out you're running on battery amps only. First I'd make sure your idle R's are at 1000. Then start checking accessory connections for dirt. Also check your ground connection and make sure it's clean. Lastly, your battery might be on the verge of dieing, and not capable of handling the amp load of the accessories by itself, so your headlights dim. Another thought is the CPM might need to be resoldered?? My 2¢ -
I wonder why every other video and pic on the website is first class, and then they come up with this MC video that's supposed to attract potential buyers and it looks like it was done by a 10 year old..... No.. 5 year old... Another thing is that after reading a couple of the press releases they were dated 1999. Wonder why we haven't heard about them sooner???? Still an interesting concept, and I can't believe that engine sounds that bad. Explosions make noise....

My brother sent this to me and it's definately something to ponder. And they're building bikes!! http://www.coatesengine.com/ http://www.coatesengine.com/videos.html http://www.coatesengine.com/motorcycle.html I wish the motorcycle video were of a better quality, and from what I could hear the thing sounded kinda funky. But they're taking orders.... Wonder how a Venture V4 would behave..

You're covered Mike. Thanks. I'm not sure what my next group buy will be, but Don (Freebird) is putting together a buy for Edsets headsets. http://edsets.com/ Not sure all the details have been ironed out yet, but it sounds like it'll be a good one. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23100&highlight=edsets

That brace takes about 5 minutes to install, so take your time and enjoy the moment.....

So far for the USofA...yep.. But these shipping rates are climbing faster that a squirrel up an oak tree in mating season. Originally on the fork braces I planned on shipping everyone flat rate at $8.95. Then checked flat rate and it had jumped to $9.30, so last week to keep things within budget I went to regular priority shipping for $7.39. Shipped one this morning and the reg. priority was up to $7.96. Arrrgh!!

Nope. We're still collecting payments. Go ahead and send the paypal and you'll be covered.

Could be on your kitchen table Todd. If not, betcha it shows tomorrow. The cost of UPS would have killed us. Everything went out USPS Priority. I did ship it to the address change you gave me.... -
