Hard Start,Rough Idle
Condor replied to RustyRecycledToy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just a thought. It still sounds like it's fuel related. After you let it sit it will fire and run. Start it again and it starts loosing R's and then dies. There's a fine mesh screen filter around the pitcock pickup inside the tank. It may be clogged, and only letting a small amount of fuel to get through it. After sitting for a while there's enough fuel seeping past to the fuel pump to get the bike running. After a bit the fuel pump runs out of gas, and the engine starts to idle rough and then dies. Then nothing. I'd drain the tank, dump in a can of Sea Foam, and about a quart of gas, and let it sit 24hrs. Add 2-3 more gallons to dilute the Sea Foam mix and then try to start. You can also toggle the run/stop and it will make the fuel pump run for 5 seconds or up to pressure. I'd also check your inline filter to see if it's clogged up. Again, just a thought..... -

Fork Brace List
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks BJ. I don't think there'll be any difference, but the USPS did toss me a curve this week and raise the US Flat Rate base by a few cents. I haven't looked at the new?? Canadian shipping rates yet... Gas prices are driving me nutz.... -
Fork Brace List

Just a quick update. The braces are being packed this AM... Wed. What a PITA... -
You'll have a great time. Back in the early 90's my wife and I circumnavigated the entire US. We were planning on being gone 4 weeks, but ended up cutting it a couple of days short. Got tired.... We did take a bunch of pics tho. This was pre-digital and I burned up 2 bricks of slide film. The funny part about the trip was that I took probably 30 grand worth of hi-tech Nikon cameras and lenses. Used the Nikons for one roll of film on the flight line at Homestead AFB where my wifes brother was the CO. The rest of the film I ran thru a Leica Point-n-Shoot. Much easier to carry. I'd have gone nutz with a digital!! Have fun!!

'Bout time Don. Thanks for cleaning up the mess.....

I don't think there's an equitable way to pick a winner, and have it tied into the 5000th member that would give enough varibles, other than picking the day, hour, and minute when #5000 joins. The one closest to the time wins. The state has been mentioned, but we only have 50 of them to spread around 4000 members. There's gonna be a tie. My 2¢

I used the list on South Seattle Yamaha's website. Kinda tricky as the 83-85 part number is shown on the air filter page, and the 86-87 shows up on the radiator hose schematic... I don't think the parts engine is any different than any of the others available on yamaha websites??.....
-
The parts schematics show two different part numbers. A longer breather pipe #90445-116-00 for the 1200's, and #47G-11166-00 for the shorter 86-93's with the 'T'. The dealer might have ordered the wrong year??

Jeeze, is that what happened?? I guess I got all excited over nothing.....:moon:

Jim, I hadn't taken any long rides in a lot of years too, but when I rode to FtCollins last year, over a two week period, I put on close to 4 600 mile days. The riding wasn't bad but the heat near did me in. 100-105 degs is hot. I was surprised that I could do that many miles and still stand, but I didn't have a problem. MOF I was kinda proud of myself.... Ride what you feel comfortable doing. Whether it's 300 or 700. You'll know when it's time to pull over and rest.

Back in '79 I bought a new Volkswagen Rabbit. 4cylinder, 5 speed, fuel injected. Hauled ass, and got a consistent 45-47 mpg. One time I wanted to see what I could wring out of it, and topped it off up in Reno and drove home to Sacramento. Coasted when ever I could. Never went over 55 under power. Sky was the limit if I was in coast mode.... 110 miles to the door, and when I filled it back up in took exactely 1 gallon..... I think we're all being sold a bill of goods.... Hybred my pah-toot!!

Wobble at 110
Condor replied to FROG MAN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like it's a pretty agressive leak Gerald. Time to drag out the soapy water spray bottle... Should be easy to find. -
The 84/86 and the '87 1300 carb sets have the 'T', but on the '83 the tube goes right to the twinky. Not sure about a straight '84 1200, but if your's is like my '83 it sounds about right...??

I carry this one.

antennae for 87'Royale
Condor replied to davepa's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Have no idea if the Wing antenna is compatable, but the only place I've seen Venture OEM's is Ebay. Be patient....and be carefull. Some of these sellers are dumping junk. More so now than in the past..... -
I thought I had an extra vent tube that goes from the air box down to that heat exchanger that looks like a big twinky and sits in the valley between the front and back cylindar bank. Anyone have an extra one laying around that I could buy? Thanks. And thanks for lookin', but I'm going to order one from the local YAmaha dealer. They're not all that expensive.....Duh!!

When the wife bought me the 'Full Monty' Weber Kettle for fathers day a couple of years ago it came with those little white cubes. The worked great, but I ran out and haven't bumped into them anywhere yet. She also bought one of those stainless cylindar starters gizmos. I've since been using newpaper...comics work best... to fire the coals. Takes longer with the newpaper than with the cubes, but either way it beats the 'H' out of the fluid...

You're not going to get any less movement if you squeeze the yoke and narrow the gap.. Worn bolt and frame tab are where play is developed, and if it get's real sloppy it's the tab on the frame that's generally worn, but there'll always be a little slop in the stand. The shoulder of the bolt will bottom out against the opposite side of the yoke. I think the reason these bolts are snapping is that everyone is over torqueing them, trying to tighten the stand up. The bolt just needs to be snug, any tighter isn't accomplishing a thing. The nut on the back is a lock nut, and that's where you need to put a little extra. As far as bikes leaning waaay over, it's usually high pressure in the forks that causes the lean. The high pressure raises the bike a couple of inches and adds another 3-4 inches the lean of the bike. Same thing happens in reverse with low pressures. Bike leans less.

Looks like I'm gonna take a trip to Lowes....
