  1. Redneck...you trying to be funny again???
  2. Many thanks for the invite Dave, but I'm hanging a left at Wells and going up to Twin Falls. Maybe next time...
  3. And....what's going to happen when you can't pay your bills, or buy food???
  4. I never thought I'd see the day I'd get excited about $4.03 a gallon.........
  5. That gripes me to no end!! Seems like every time a mechanic looks at a set of Venture carbs, the first words out of their mouth is 'they need to be rebuilt'... And of course they want a ton to do it. Did he tell you what was bad? I can understand if the diaphragms are tore up, but every one I've looked at is usually good or has a few small pin holes. I think I remember one that I may have found torn at a crease. I just repaired a set of phragms that were pin holed. Used Plasti-Dip rubberized spray, and they came out like new. Very easy to do. The rest of the carb usually just needs a good cleaning. Straight Sea-Foam in the bowls while cranking the motor generally get's the job done after a 24hrs soak... Generally if the bike has been sitting for a couple of years the carbs are just gummed up. Give it a try... just think of all the money you'll save.
  6. Scott, What's wrong with the set you have now???
  7. There's a dampner adjustment on the left side of the bike just to the rear of the middle gear cover. Is it set on 4? If not put it there. And don't jump directly from 1 to 4 or 4-1, but 1-2-3-4 or 4-3-2-1. Should help with the bottoming out.
  8. OK.....sounds reasonable to me....
  9. I agree. It looks like most of Nevada, outside of a few independant stations, is about the same as Sacto. Might as well top off here....
  10. Anyone know what the fuel prices are like on I80 thru Nevada?? I've decided to cage it to my Grandson's wedding in Id. in two weeks and wonder whether it would be better to wait and tank up in Nevada or go ahead and top the tank off here in Sacramento????? Locally a gallon of reg. goes for $4.50. Also, do they require ethanol in Nevada fuel?? Ya can tell I haven't been up there in a while...
  11. Who the 'H' is Chuck Norris?????????
  12. Don't forget to grab your ankles too Jerry.....
  13. After doing 50+ 1stGen brace orders I can only imagine what a hassel it is keeping track of all the shirt orders and raffle ticket sales. For those paying via Paypal it really helps putting as much information as you can think of. Your Board Name, shipping address, color, quantity, but the most important thing is Board Name. It's really tuff, and time consuming, playing detective trying to identify who the 'H' John Doe is. I might also add that we all need to go to our User CP and turn on the email allowed. These make life so much easier....
  14. I signed it, but I'd also like to see the Gov drop their tax load on a gallon of fuel, and.... along with supplying domestic fuel for the domestic market, to cut way back on buying foreign oil. I'd really like to know what the 'H' they're waiting for??? Or maybe we're actually out of oil?? If so, bend over, it's gonna get a lot worse....
  15. The saddle bags slide to the rear after unlocking them. The trunk unlocks at the very bottom..back. The seat comes off by unscrewing a 12mm bolt on each side toward the back. Sounds like you really need to pick up a repair manual, or.... Look HERE.
  16. I'd just go ahead and send it back to the manufacture and let them deal with it if they think it came from a bad batch.... Certainly looks like surface stress cracks. Maybe it was the coating they used that didn't have enough stretch to withstand the flexing??? I never did like those windshields that didn't have the shape already in them.
  17. You may be right. I never paid that much attention to the thing. It may be more of a dampener to absorb energy when bottoming out??? Sorta a first line defense against fork oil hitting the top of the fork column??
  18. Nice job....
  19. Yeesh!!! OK, I just sent a paypal for 3 tickets. Hope every one enjoys my money.....
  20. LOL.... Yep, I'm a LOT...Ahem!!... heavier than you Mike, and I took every bit of my weight to get the threads to bite. I'd like to see one of the Progressive designers stop by and show us all how they do it.... There's not much any of us can do to get rid of the sidestand lean. My '83 leans waaay over, but has never gone down... I've even put a new sidestand on it. Didn't help much. MOF the lean is so great that I actually get on and off from the right side for fear of pulling the bike over. From the right I can yank all I want and it doesn't budge. 'Course long legs help too... I remember Steve (hdhtr) putting the sidestand down and starting to get off and panicing because he thought he'd forgot to get it down and was going over.. It does lean a bunch....
  21. You been eating too many Armadillo Burgers.....
  22. Yeah, my bad. Forgot about that one. It's an old age thing... Just the same, the 'O' ring is there for a reason, and that piece is part of the preload. Probably more as an air pressure seal. I'm a big guy, and even I couldn't get the threads to bite with the intire PVC. I finally cut the PVC in half, and was able to get the cap started, but still not without some effort. I had to lean on a 18" rachet extension with a 17mm hex socket (made it special) using short bursts before it caught. If you're running without the seal and a long PVC you probably accomplished the same thing as cutting the pipe in half. And if the forks hold air for you, then you're good to go.
  23. Thanks for the info Squeeze. I checked with the local NAPA store and they didn't have them in stock, and the brand wasn't anything I'd heard of before. So I ordered Timkins from my son-in-law. He manages a wholesale auto supply business and I get about half off retail. The price at NAPA was a little bit more, but if I had to order them I might as well go thru my SIL.....
  24. I was going to do that. I just didn't want to stick a cheap bearing in there. Timkin, Toyo, are a couple of brands that I'm aware of but there could be others that are better. Another thing is, I see a seal listed in the parts schematic. Would I need to replace these if I went with a sealed bearing???
  25. Just want to add. The hold down tab under the gas filler neck cover is generally a phillips screw with a flat and lock washer, and the rubber grommet in the tab has a metal compression spacer in it to keep folks from over tightening the screw and snapping off the tab. They are easily lost. Just be aware of it.
