  1. Hmmmm?? Now why would the hole plug up in the first place?? If the oil gets ugly enough to plug the hole I'd think we'd have more problems that a plugged hole.... Have a safe trip Rocket....
  2. OK, feel better this AM. Here's some pics so you know what the kit contains and how it fits, plus the installation instructions. There is no paddle, just a wire rod with an offset in it. Not sure how it does it's job, but I guess it does???
  3. $%@@$#@$^^*&*& I just wrote you a long post and then accidently hit delete. Grrrrr!! /This time it's gonna be short. Kit # 90891-30014. If your stator bolt has a punch mark on the hex head it's already been done. I just searched all my records and nothing popped up, so I don't think it's available any longer thru Yamaha. Ebay only.
  4. Around here we have one called the 'Pink Lady'. It's been around forever. Basically operates with the same plainer board principal as the ones you have but from the looks of it but since it's plastic, much lighter. If a garage sale has a tackle box for sale 9 times out of 10 there's a Pink Lady in it.
  5. Like Freebird I use the clutch all the time, but I'm pretty agressive when running up or down thru the gears and wonder if squeezing the lever really makes any difference????
  6. Mine looked like a Condor and I thought cool!! Then the chimp shows me a snake....
  7. How's the balance on the trailer tires ??
  8. Not aware of any chart Gary. I just pull 'm and clean 'm.. Maybe Jeff (muffinman) or Mike (mbrood) could help??
  9. Need some clarification Tom. Does the trailer shimmy or the bike?? Flexrides are a pretty good TA, but I'd think it might be wheel alignment if it's the trailer. Also are you pulling the trailer empty?? Lite weight or no tongue weight might cause some shakin'.....
  10. I don't even own a 2ndGen, but from what I've read I'd put money on the ignition switch.....
  11. Is it animal..vegetable...or mineral..
  12. Wow!!... No way I could remember all those moves...
  13. I love to reply to these jerks, when I have nothing better to do. Once I actually had one send me a lame check. Usually a request for $30,000USD good faith money deposited to my paypal account makes them go somewhere else.....
  14. Gary- You can get to both Pilot Jets without removing the carbs. #2 is accessed behind the idle adjustment screw and #1 is accesssed at the top of the venturi. You'll need to pull the air box to get to #1, but carbs can stay where they are. I've never raised one so I'm no help there in regards to effect.....
  15. According to the map, L.A. and SoCal have escaped any fires for the present. Actually it looks like NorCal may get a little repreve from the smoke with a little ridge that looks like it'll come thru tomorrow. Any rain out of it would be a big plus, but any wind out of the south west would work. Hope your trip is smoke free.... http://weather.unisys.com/satellite/sat_ir_enh_west_loop-12.html
  16. As all of you interested in picking up an Odyssey battery may...or may not... know after running into problems with the supplier I decided to discontinue the latest group buy. I still wanted to use an AGM battery, so what I did is take a chance and pick one up off Ebay. It is slightly smaller than the PC680 and in some instances has a better rating. So far...so good. The battery I picked up was a Half U-1 AGM from www.Gruberpower.com I tested it during our lastest Tahoe dayride, and it didn't miss a beat. Started with power every time during the entire 13hour trip. I also let the scoot sit for a week, and just went out to start it. The motor started without any hesitation. I can't attest to battery life, but for $32 + shipping it's a steal. It's made in China, and cosmetically it looks very nice. The only drawback..if you could call it that.. was the anode posts are a little different and some thought needs to be taken to route the positive and neg cables. A little twisting and it's do-able. So, if anyone was waiting feverishly for an Odyssey, here I feel is a great alternative. Anything else you'd like to know....ask, and I'll try to answer.
  17. Just depends on the direction of the wind George. There are fires everywhere. http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/1012305.html As far as a route you might think about staying on the east side of the Sierras...maybe over night in Susanville??? One thing is for sure, riding a scoot isn't very enjoyable right now.
  18. Yeah, it's not factory. There are a few '84's with factory cruise and 83 VIN#'s. that's why I asked about the difference in Chokes. Sorry to take this off topic. As far as the lack of performance, I think a few have responded with suggestions about the fuel cut off valve. It might be stuck closed and not venting and allowing enough fuel to be pumped to the carbs. It's the only thing I can think of after a 'gentle' drop. Try blowing air up the line and see if it'll break loose...??
  19. OK, is it factory OEM?? Because it's a whole lotta trouble to convert to one. 'Nother question. Is your choke set an on/off slider under the horn button, or does it rotate in front of the LH grip??
  20. Smoke has been thick here. When I left for a GK's wedding in Ida last Thursday I looked forward to getting away from the stuff, but the smoke and haze lasted until I was north of Wells NV. That's 500 miles from here!! I left the house at 0400hrs and headed east. Over Donner Pass it was dense enough to look like fog. The rising sun was just a big orange ball and not blinding at all. Looked kinda cool. MOF it was even hazy in Twin Falls, but it disappeared by Saturday. Our oldest has asthma and she really had problems on Thrusday and Friday. This morning the Sky actually is blue. Hope it lasts for a while..... Big Sur fire is still out of control, and according to the radio we are still fighting 1400 lightening strike fires through out the state.
  21. Gotta ask. Did '83's ever come with a criuise control??? Aftermarket throttle locks were available, but I thought CC's first appeared on the '84 model....
  22. Ran into a beautiful '06/7? Black Cherry in Markleyville last Saturday while on the Tahoe ride. Older couple, and they had never heard of this site. Loved the bike...except for the damn whine. Mentioned the I basket and they had never heard about it either. Not all 2ndGens owners are members of VR.ORG... we did invite them to join BTW... I think there are a lot of folks out there with 2ndGens with issues we never hear about.... I've found over the years that the best of anything, is the one that a person currently owns. Don't hear to many folks running around admitting they are unhappy.
  23. I know we have a bunch of 2ndGens on this site, but geeze, I'm begining to wonder... or is the light bulb going on?? What is the deal with all these warantee issues with 2ndGens?? I know a lot of you ride machines that are flawless, but it seems like every time I turn around I'm reading about someone with another problem, and duking it out with the Yamaha factory. Buy an RSV and take your chances. All I gotta say is I'm glad I ride a 1stGen, at least I know what to expect, and if I ever look at a newer bike it's not going to be an RSV. I can see why riders are looking at Honda GW's more and more. Even a Victory Vision..as ugly as it is.. is starting to look good. It kinda grows on ya... like the old '58 Chevy. Think I'll go look at one up close and personal.....
  24. Never like this. How soon we forget...... Last year it was Nev., Wyo., Uta, Ida. This year it's NorCal.
