  1. Yeah sounds like your center load might be damaged. What ever happened to those short 'Rubber Duckies'?? I wonder if they still make them??? I don't know about you, but the only time I use the CB is on a group ride. Not shooting much skip.... er... DXing.
  2. Yes it is. What was your reading???
  3. The reason they want you to pull the ignition, and take it to them is the key numbers are stamped on the back. See Below. If youcan get in there with a mirror, and the area is clean enough, you could possibily read the numbers and call or send them to http://www.motorcyclekeys.com/ On the gas cap. Try drilling it out to remove it, and I believe?? there's an after market Stant that will work? Another OEM can also be found on Ebay.
  4. The bike is clearly 'barn sour'. You need to take it out more often. Sounds like there's a problem in the fuel delivery area. Filter, fuel pump, etc. Maybe a can of Sea Foam if you haven't done so in a while. Maybe bad gas at your last fill??? Running hot and vapor lock??? Just some suggestions..... Good luck.
  5. 2ndGen's don't have a tach???? What's with that???
  6. Just want to wish everyone safe travels and have a great week. See ya'll next year...
  7. Skid, I'm not sure I understand how your getting a WATT reading off the antenna?? Have you checked your antenna SWR?? That I understand...
  8. A friend just sent me this link via Email, and even though it relates to car tires I tought it might be of interest, and apply to motorcycle tires as well. Especially since the cord-cap seperations that have been experienced by a few on this board. It might be something to be aware of the next time we purchase new tires. http://abcnews.go.com:80/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897
  9. Before our Tahoe dayride I went ahead and flushed the radiator on the '83. I'm not sure when it was done last, but I've owned the scoot for 3 years, and I'd never done it. I had some extra GM orange coolant designed for their aluminum headed engines, and decided to give it a try. I think it ran around $19.00 bucks per gallon when I bought it for the Suburban. Tossed in the recomended mix of 50/50 water/coolant and some water wetter...just because...and while on the ride I noticed that the temp guage didn't run quite as high and it cooled down a lot quicker than it had in the past. So I'm happy with the results, and will probably continue to run the same mix in all my bikes. Oh yeah, BTW, I found the drain valve already turned to the on position when I started the flush, so I'd been by-passing the thermostat all this time. After filling the radiator, I turned it off, and by the movement of the coolant the thermostat did open up and fluid started to circulate. I wonder if the valve being open caused the coolant to circulate too fast and not cool down when running thru the radiator???
  10. Hmmmm?? Now why would the hole plug up in the first place?? If the oil gets ugly enough to plug the hole I'd think we'd have more problems that a plugged hole.... Have a safe trip Rocket....
  11. OK, feel better this AM. Here's some pics so you know what the kit contains and how it fits, plus the installation instructions. There is no paddle, just a wire rod with an offset in it. Not sure how it does it's job, but I guess it does???
  12. $%@@$#@$^^*&*& I just wrote you a long post and then accidently hit delete. Grrrrr!! /This time it's gonna be short. Kit # 90891-30014. If your stator bolt has a punch mark on the hex head it's already been done. I just searched all my records and nothing popped up, so I don't think it's available any longer thru Yamaha. Ebay only.
  13. Around here we have one called the 'Pink Lady'. It's been around forever. Basically operates with the same plainer board principal as the ones you have but from the looks of it but since it's plastic, much lighter. If a garage sale has a tackle box for sale 9 times out of 10 there's a Pink Lady in it.
  14. Like Freebird I use the clutch all the time, but I'm pretty agressive when running up or down thru the gears and wonder if squeezing the lever really makes any difference????
  15. Mine looked like a Condor and I thought cool!! Then the chimp shows me a snake....
  16. How's the balance on the trailer tires ??
  17. Not aware of any chart Gary. I just pull 'm and clean 'm.. Maybe Jeff (muffinman) or Mike (mbrood) could help??
  18. Need some clarification Tom. Does the trailer shimmy or the bike?? Flexrides are a pretty good TA, but I'd think it might be wheel alignment if it's the trailer. Also are you pulling the trailer empty?? Lite weight or no tongue weight might cause some shakin'.....
  19. I don't even own a 2ndGen, but from what I've read I'd put money on the ignition switch.....
  20. Is it animal..vegetable...or mineral..
  21. Wow!!... No way I could remember all those moves...
  22. I love to reply to these jerks, when I have nothing better to do. Once I actually had one send me a lame check. Usually a request for $30,000USD good faith money deposited to my paypal account makes them go somewhere else.....
  23. Gary- You can get to both Pilot Jets without removing the carbs. #2 is accessed behind the idle adjustment screw and #1 is accesssed at the top of the venturi. You'll need to pull the air box to get to #1, but carbs can stay where they are. I've never raised one so I'm no help there in regards to effect.....
  24. According to the map, L.A. and SoCal have escaped any fires for the present. Actually it looks like NorCal may get a little repreve from the smoke with a little ridge that looks like it'll come thru tomorrow. Any rain out of it would be a big plus, but any wind out of the south west would work. Hope your trip is smoke free.... http://weather.unisys.com/satellite/sat_ir_enh_west_loop-12.html
