Got the TCI down Squeeze. I knew they changed it again after 1990, but couldn't remember which year. As far as the finals and shafts go, are they interchangable?? Not worried too much how they look. I personally don't think cosmetics on a part make all that much difference just as long as it'll work... Just like the carbs. Without getting technical with jetting, ect., other than the '83's they're all interchangable from 84-93. And actually you can take the '83s and put them on a '93. The only difference is the '83 has a vacuum bib coming off the #2 carb, and it would need to be capped off. Correct me if I'm wrong. -

Thanks for the input Gig. I guess the rotate choke was a one year experiment in '84. I'll add your suggestions to the list..... It also brings to mind that the driver pegs are different between the I & II. The standard was discontinued in '88. Good suggestions I'll add them when I get some time...soon. That may all come in due time Greg. Right now I'm just looking in those areas that help in identification when locating used parts. We can get real technical and get buried. -
This is just a thought, but have you adjusted your idle mixture screws lately?? You also might have a float that's sticking and your pumping fuel out while riding via one of the overflow tubes...ergo the strong fuel odor. Don't try syncing anything until you've checked other options...

I just had a thought... I know..I know.. about putting together a list of features, or subtle differences, between all years of the 1stGens. Maybe a good idea...maybe not, but outside of colors which are listed in Venture History it might be fun to put together something. So I'll start, chime in if you can think of anything that first appeared in that year and I'll add it to the list. If I don't get any response I'll figure it was a bad idea and pick up my marbles and go away.... 1983 1. TCI is unique 2. vacuum advance comes off carb. 3. Dash is unique 4. Front brake and Gear shifter are adjustable 5. Hydralic anti-dive 1984 1. TCI changed 2. vacuum advance comes off manafold. 3. Choke set rotates in front of LH Grip 4. Cruise Control 5. Dimmer knob, gear position, stop watch added to Dash 6. 1985 1. Larger removable trunk.. unique 2. V-Max tranny after #1417 3 Choke set back to slider 1986 1. 1300 engine 2. Larger saddle bags 3. Larger trunk 4. Choke setting back to slider under horn button 5. larger 4 piston calipers and rotors 6. Wider passenger seat 7. Headlight changed in 86 to include different headlight bucket, top frame that mounts dash, adjustment mech, left side upper frame and headlight ring 8. passenger foot boards added 9. Muffler mount spacer larger 10. OEM CB added 11. chin scoop out of ABS 12. Engine guards redesigned to take new scoop 13. Windshield chrome strip changed to one piece 14. wider fork mount for 100mm calipers 15. Front brake and gear shifter non-adjustable. 16. clutch springs, pressure plate changed. 17. extra bleeder valve for left front brake near ignition switch. 18. Cruise Control lights on ignition switch cover. 19. Electrical anti-dive. 20. Longer drive shaft and modified final. 1987 1988 1. Standard XVZ1300 Discontinued 1989 1990 1. front fork boots attach a at the bottom. 2. TCI changed 1991 1992 1993 1994 1. European only

How to replace left speaker on 89 Venture Royale
Condor replied to a topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
It looks like you can get to the back of the speaker thru the turn signal, but from what I've read there's one nut you can't reach. So just go ahead and remove the entire Left panel and do what you need to do. You should be able to remove the panel after taking the rear view mirror off, removing the radio and tape deck...they just pull out...and taking the phillips screws holding the bottom panel. It ain't that big of a deal.....and a lot easier than trying to work thru the left turn opening..... -
Done deal Don. Hope it helps. California roads have gone from being the best to being the worst over the last 50 years.... I remember when a kid I knew we were back in Ca by how good they were. Now I know we're back in Ca by how bad they are. And it's a shame concidering how much fuel we burn and the taxes we pay on that fuel......

Hot weather riding, engine temp
Condor replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep, your right Randy. Just like in the pic. Ain't editing great!! BTW, the pic shows the valve in the OFF position. So if anyone has to stand on his...or her head to read the lettering you're A-OK.... -
Duct tape is good..... I use military 100mph tape. Great stuff...

Hot weather riding, engine temp
Condor replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Randy, I think a lot of folks are confused about which position the valve needs to be in. On or Off. For normal everyday operation the valve needs to be in the OFF position, and when draning the radiator the valve needs to be turned ON. The positions are marked on the head of the hex, but are a ***** to read unless really clean. Some housing have an indicator arrow and some do not, but the position is about 2:00 o'clock on the housing. IT's fairly easy to tell if the valve is in one position or the other by the ball dent. They can 'feel' the ball when it hits the indent and is in the right spot.... I hope this helps a few folks. I was in a fog until I tore one apart to see what was going on..... -

His original post was clocked at 9:51 AM. I was off and on most of the day yesterday, but didn't see the original... Anyway, even tho- the OEM kit is nice to have I find myself going to the metric tool box when working on the scoot. Squeeze listed all the tools you'd need plus your personals, like needle nose etc. I'd suggest building your own. The only pieces I find really helpfull out of the OEM are the spark plug tube, and the large flat 15mm fitting that fits over the end. As far as wear the kit is stowed?? Who knows?? But if it isn't in the truck or one of the saddle bags you don't own one.....

That's a pretty big question to answer in one sitting. There's a couple of members here that can recite chapter and verse about the 'suttle' differences, but for the most part figure that anything coming off an 86-93 will interchange with your '89. The Mark I's (83-85) have a lot of parts that will fit Mark II's, but the best way to know for sure is ask the board.....

Since pure CB shops are few and far between any longer I'd try Radio Shack, or your local truck stop. Or for other options, maybe these guys... http://www.everhardtantennas.com/
