  1. On my '83VR I'm turning right around 4200rpm and 75-76mph. So it's about right on. What about taking a 2ndGen final and putting it in a 1stGen?? Will it fit after plugging the speedo hole??? One thing tho.... I'm getting 38-39mpg at freeway speeds and 2 weeks ago pulled 50mpg on an all day ride in mountain twisties..... I don't think dropping the RPM is going to make that much difference in gas milage. I think there's something else going on????
  2. I think the stuff breaks down from UV exposure. Kinda a sunburn. The '83 I sold came with the 'grunge' when I bought it. Steve..hdhtr.. had some stuff labeled Vinyl Restorer on the shelf that we used on the seat and it seemed to seal up the surface. Wish I could remember the name of the stuff, but afterwards I hit the seat with Farnam's Leather New...kinda a glycerine saddle soap mix..., and although the black scars were left the material stopped breaking down. I think the big secret is to not let the bike sit uncovered for long periods of time exposed to direct sunlight.... like riding it to work and letting it sit in the parking lot all day without putting a cover on it...??
  3. I got one...you got one two??
  4. The original post was made in '06... Maybe posting about trailer brakes would work better in the trailer tech forum???
  5. At 4 to 5 bucks a gallon, I bet traffic thins out....
  6. Some random thoughts. The problem we run into is the topographics of the US. Everything in the middle is flat as a pancake. They don't call it 'The Great Basin' for nothing. Great mountains East of it and great mountains west of it, but nada in the middle. If I wanna to ride on flatlands I'll get on a freeway... Heat is another factor. Anything in the southern US is going to be plain HOT that time of the year. I don't want to spend 10 days riding in an oven. So... the only places that make sense in July... to me at least... is north and middle..ish US..., or change the date to something earlier or later in the year?? Brownsville TX in the winter?? OR...what's wrong with going back to Ft Collins?? All the mechanics are in place, we had great hosts in the Moose Lodge, and we didn't even scratch the surface as far as riding goes. We wouldn't have to start from scratch to organize the thing...
  7. CODY WY
  8. Actually there is a difference. Hydralic vs. Electrical Anti-Dives. I wonder if you're having problems with the AD's not working???
  9. Finally got on the website. I guess we did overload it... I noticed that it's possible to send them a set of forks and they'll do the installation. I do have an extra set off an '86, and since I'm not real well versed on fork know-how I though I'd go that route and give it a try?? I also noticed that they don't have any Ventures..1st or 2nd listed... for the dampner???.
  10. I know the majority of the members live on the east coast, so send me a T-Shirt and take lots of pics. Unless it's somewhere closer I'll have to live it vicariously thru the group site. Not enough time to travel to and from a rally 2000+ miles away. Maybe we need to start talking about VWV for those folks out west.
  11. I'm not real positive when Venture West I in Bakersfield was held, because I didn't go, but I think it was in 2004. VWII in Death Valley was in 2005. VWIII in Susanville,Ca in 2006. Nothing in 2007 because of the International in Ft Collins, Co., and VWIV will be next month, Aug'2008 in San Luis Obispo Ca. I hope I got that right....
  12. Great info Rick. Tried to get on RaceTech's cruiser page and I think we've overwhelmed the server... I did find this info on Google. http://vmaxoutlaw.com/tech/cartridge_emulators.htm
  13. I'd look at least 10 feet.... A twelve footer will give you more room for do-dads, and there's not much difference in the pull.....
  14. Just a wild stab, but you might have loose steering head bearings...
  15. Yep, looks good Brad. Now go mow the lawn or buy a goat..... :rotf:
  16. You must be using the same snipper I use Gerald. Three free snipes per week keeps me under control. Any more and I'd get into real trouble.....
  17. I've heard of that too, even in diesel fuel.. I think the basic reason is the tranny fluid has a lot of detergents added and it keeps things cleaner. 3+1 might be a little too much and change the viscosity of the oil???. Added to diesel fuel doesn't matter.....
  18. It'd look a lot better with some chrome....
  19. I took early and still ante up into the SS system every year at tax time. About every two or three years they actually adjust my monthly up a notch because of it.....
  20. It may not be road grime. Over time the windows will get opaque as the plastic deteriorates and turns to the consistency of swiss cheese. I don't know of any way to replace them, but that doesn't mean they can't. I've just never heard of it being done. We discussed this in a thread a long time ago and thought that coating them with a clear topcoat type paint might help and reharden the surface. The opaqueness does go away if a light oil is applied to the window, but if you're thinking about painting them it might not be too good of an idea to try it out. Cleaning them from the inside is pretty near impossible as the inside of the window is covered with a metal disc with a slot in it. I had an after-thought. You might try clear nail polish???
  21. Don I believe your right on in keeping the club 'Venture' oriented. We can't be all things to all people. If we do change it will eventually dilute the common interest that draws and binds members in the first place. They come for help and stay for friendships. Folks will come and go as their rides and interests change, but many will stay because of the camaraderie that has been developed, and that's what it's all about anyway. My 2¢
