  1. If the bike has current registration and you have the signed off title and bill of sale, ride the thing home and don't worry about it. If the bike has been sitting for a couple of years, and the registration has expired, I'd haul it home in a trailer. That's what I did when I picked up the '93 in Tucson. Trailered it over to the DMV when I got here and they checked the Vin# to the title and registered it in California. I built my 30' sailboat trailer from scratch in Reno Nev I had to get a temp permit to bring it down the hill to Sacramento since it had never been registered or titled.
  2. LOL.... I bet if I walked into my local dealer with the VIN# and asked him to look up the factory fixes that have been done to the '83 I'd get a 'YOU WANT WHAT???'
  3. Sounds like a recall to me.. Wonder if it's still in effect....
  4. Very nice job Ron...
  5. This is a fix to cure the stator overheating problem in the '83.'s & '84's. I don't know if it was a recall or just something Yamaha came up with to appease the customer, but if it were a recall most '83's probably have already had it done. Still not a bad idea to have a kit around just because. Tuff to find when you need one right away... And, if I didn't already have one in my stash, I'd have bought this one.. Cheap insurance.
  6. How thoughtless of me. I guess from now on I'll need to scan through every response to make sure I don't repeat a suggestion instead of just responding to the original post.....Duh??
  7. I had the the same problem on my '83. Checked all the levels and they were perfect. Then I started looking at the diagram of the rear master and noticed that, like the reserves on the bars, there was a rubber baffle gasket under the lid, and when the baffle was fully extended it pushed the sensor float down a tad like the fluid was low...and it wasn't. I got in there with a probe and pushed it back up a bit and the low fluid warning disappeared. I probably didn't get it out of the way totally but enough to make a difference, and taking the lid off the rear reserve is a PITA. So if you're gettin false low fluid warnings this may be something to look into...??
  8. Just healing up normally after knee replacement is tuff enough. We'll keep her in or prayers that she heels quickly, and doesn't have any more problems....
  9. Have you tried warming up the stuff with a hairdrier and pealing it off??
  10. http://www.stripeman.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT It they don't have it, it doesn't exist.....
  11. I just went out and pulled one off a scrap bag Dan. Pretty easy....4 crown nuts and a little coaxing. I'll mail it out tommorow morning if you haven't had a better offer... . LMK.....
  12. After you do the house cleaning, but before you put the bags back on, coat the contact areas with lemon fresh pledge, or dry slide if you happen to have any. WD-40 will leave a film that attracts dirt over time.
  13. Do both the high and low beam still function? IF they do follow George's lead. If you only have high beam then I'd suspect the CPM is in need of a resolder.
  14. The bags do get a little sticky from time to time.... the locks too. Just make sure the lock bolt is retracted completely into the lock housing and the give the bag a good rap with your hand toward the rear. The saddlebag lugs should move back to the circular part of the keyway in the mounting plate.
  15. How about Jackson Hole Wyo. Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and the Cowboy Bar... San Diego 1,016 miles Dallas 1,397 miles Chicago 1,392 miles Thunder Bay Ont. 1,430 miles Seattle 875 miles DesMoines..1037 miles I did run into a map making tool, and thought 'what the heck'. So this is what I came up with. As you can see the majority of the Venture Rider Population is located east of the Mississippi, and even though Texas is the largest populated state, if you clump a few of the Lake Michigan states together and include the provence of Ontario with 264 members into the group it really makes a mass of members in one geographical location. What does it prove? I donno, maybe we should be looking at a rally site closer to those folks???
  16. Murdering those poor algae.........
  17. The CLASS controller runs very slow, and takes forever to change mode. Are you giving it enough time to change after pushing on a button??
  18. I can see it now. Some tree hugger organization will start a protect the algae protest and screw up everything.....
  19. Now that was COOL!!!!!!!
  20. Ride Safe Curtis.....
  21. How's compression?? not Compressor....
  22. Thanks Bob, I will...
  23. Anyone have an extra side stand for a 1stGen I could buy?
  24. There's a lot of areas that could effect MPG. Any vacuum leaks? Is the boost sensor working? Is the TCI sending out the right timing signal to the coils? Are the carb float levels all OK? Any leaks in the diaphrams?? How's compression?? Is the choke set too tight and not coming off all the way?? These are just a few things that come to mind....
  25. Ditto here too...but it may be a 1st vs. 2ndGen thing???
