  1. Piggy Backer has a removable post that fits over the tongue, and they also make a cooler rack that's nice. I don't know what their prices are, but you can call them. Great folks to do business with. http://piggybacker.stehltow.com/
  2. Hola amigo!! They get chilli in Texas....
  3. Did you reset the idle mixture screws after you had the carbs off the bike. And try loosening the fuel cable adjustments at the grip a bit to see it they might be a little tight not allowing the throttle to close entirely... This may cause your sync to be short lived. ???
  4. The problem with those radiating heaters is they only warm the surface of the thing they're pointed at. They don't warm the air. We had them for one year at our deer camp in Colorado, and they were a PITA. If you didn't stand right in front of it you froze... and you had to keep turning to keep warm. Kinda like a pig on a spit... Made getting your skivies on in the morning very interesting....
  5. Haven't figured out how to get two different bikes to work on the same key.... Yet!!
  6. Dang, nothings sacred anymore....
  7. Check with Friesman on this one. After VWIV his lower engine is a basket case. He can fill you in on the details of what caused it...
  8. Lots of suggestions. I use one of those Lasko upright fan/ossilating heaters with a built in thermostat from SAM's Club.. Small foot print, sets in a corner, and I leave it on 24/7 during the winter set at around 65 degs. Keeps things warm and toasty. The problem I see with heaters that are only run when it's extremely cold is everything gets cold and it takes forever to bring the temp up. The Lasko cycles on and off, and it's always nice.

  10. The difference between Avons from Southwestmoto.com and the unknown Maxxi's will be about 35-40 bucks, and for that difference I suggest biting the bullet and getting the known Avons. The one thing you don't want to do is skimp on tires. They are the only thing between you and very hard pavement....
  11. That's where I get mine done too. The key code can be found on the back side of the ignition switch. I've never tried, but may you could get it with a flashlight and mirror??
  12. The bench mark for replacement is, if they are torn, replace them. If they have small pin holes they can be repaired although some folks will replace. The only difference between the 83-85 diaphragm and the 86-93 is the air hole in one housing housing is bigger. Otherwise they're the same. I've repaired pin hole diaphragms with success using a product called Plasti-Dip spray. I guess it's time to whip up a tech page on the process. Generally with the lid of the aircleaner off and reving the motor you should be able to see the plastic housing moving in the venturi of the carb. If one doesn't react in unison with the others, or not at all, it's probably bad. You can exchange diaphragms from one carb to another as long as it from 1200 to 1200, or 1300 to 1300. Some guys have punched the hole out on the smaller...can't remember which series has the larger hole... and used it on the larger.
  13. 83-85 1stGen MKI 86-93 1stGen MKII 99-pres 2ndGen I still don't know where the detuned 96-98 Royal Stars fall into the whole scheme of things as they still had the V4 motor. Here's a link to the board history page. http://www.venturerider.org/modules/history/index.php
  14. Bob, Thought about you and our discussion over the fork braces. This might be right up your alley.... Might make for another VR.org closet industry item...
  15. Yep, loose lips sink ships..... Just repeating the numbers quoted from a previous post. I have no reason to not believe him. Especially since dealers aren't stocking them in any great number, and one of the big *****es on this board is locating a dealer that even has one on the floor for sale. You need to read all the previous posts..... To make it easy here's a copy of the text. Today I picked up my bike from the dealer. Has a new fuel pump installed. I asked the parts manager when the 09's would be out. He said septmeber 9. I mentioned the rumors about the venture. He said he moved to Tallahassee, Florida from Wisconsin. Said he worked for a yamaha dealership in Wisconsin for 14 years and was in sales. He said he doubts there will be a venure in 09. I'm just repeating what he said but he said yamaha sold less than 1700 ventures in 2007. I asked if he meant 17,000 and he said no 1700. The dealership got 2 ventures per year and he said he always sold them as soon as they got them but yamaha doesn't seem to care about the venture. He doesn't think there will be another venture at all in the future. Time will tell.
  16. When they only sell 1700 units that look like a Harley, don't ecpect them to continue down that road. Big Gold Wing like cruisers are still selling, and they sold a ton of Wing knock-offs with the first generations. I'd speculate that they're seriously..if not already.. designing something that will go after the GW market like they did with the 1stGens. They have the motor with the new V-Max, it doesn't make sense to not look at another line of bikes to dilute the R&D costs over a broader base. IMHO.......... It's still gonna be fun speculating...
  17. I get 50mpg when you'd think otherwise Brad. And I'm not the only one. And I also know of a couple of 1stGens that only get 25-29mpg. Why? Who knows?? Go figure.....
  18. I followed those just to see what would happen. What the seller had pictured was the rubber disc only unmounted. Most diaphragms come complete with everything except the needle which is easy to take out of the old assembly. Replacing the rubber is another matter. What did you actually receive?? If they were complete units you did good. I hesitated bidding because of the picture....
  19. Yeah... I usually run them through the local laundra-mat....
  20. The Timkin number is 303SS. Others use 6303S. The S is for Stainless Steel, or sealed..not sure which??. It's a common bearing and used in a lot of Alternators. I'm lucky, my Son-in-law manages an autoparts wholesale business so I picked up mine for $20.52.ea. Shop around on the internet and you should be able to come close to that price. Maybe even beat it?? Mine started squeeking when I lean into a curve. Bearings are probably dry and might just need lubing, but I figured replacing them would be prudent... They're probably OEM from the factory with 50K on them.
  21. Change it out and it's one less thing you have to worry about. It's a vacation...take it.
  22. I say target away. It's about time they get hit where it hurts... the pocket book...and their freedom if it comes to that. Maybe they'll think twice before they start putting other's lives in danger. It happened on our VR group ride last Saturday down Hwy1 north of Cambria in some twisties. A super bike rider almost clipped my front tire passing me on a blind curve over the double yellow. He almost got the bike in front of me as well, trying to pass first on the left, and then taking the outside apron to pass him as well as the two cars in front of him. On a curve. That BS has got to stop, and as far as I'm concerned he threatened my life. 85 in a 35mph zone, wheelies, no insurance, no registration, are all BS. I'd throw their a$$ in jail on the first offence. Call me an old fogey if you want, but if I'd had a gun I'da shot the SOB....
  23. I'm always finding webs around on the bikes. No BW's so far... I find a ride at triple digits will get rid of them... for a while....
  24. And of course JB you're gonna post the measurements here so I won't have to go thru all that nipping and tucking... I do like the idea of using a thicker aluminum... 1/2" maybe... and counter boring so the trunk will fit flush to the bracket....
