  1. I get 50mpg when you'd think otherwise Brad. And I'm not the only one. And I also know of a couple of 1stGens that only get 25-29mpg. Why? Who knows?? Go figure.....
  2. I followed those just to see what would happen. What the seller had pictured was the rubber disc only unmounted. Most diaphragms come complete with everything except the needle which is easy to take out of the old assembly. Replacing the rubber is another matter. What did you actually receive?? If they were complete units you did good. I hesitated bidding because of the picture....
  3. Yeah... I usually run them through the local laundra-mat....
  4. The Timkin number is 303SS. Others use 6303S. The S is for Stainless Steel, or sealed..not sure which??. It's a common bearing and used in a lot of Alternators. I'm lucky, my Son-in-law manages an autoparts wholesale business so I picked up mine for $20.52.ea. Shop around on the internet and you should be able to come close to that price. Maybe even beat it?? Mine started squeeking when I lean into a curve. Bearings are probably dry and might just need lubing, but I figured replacing them would be prudent... They're probably OEM from the factory with 50K on them.
  5. Change it out and it's one less thing you have to worry about. It's a vacation...take it.
  6. I say target away. It's about time they get hit where it hurts... the pocket book...and their freedom if it comes to that. Maybe they'll think twice before they start putting other's lives in danger. It happened on our VR group ride last Saturday down Hwy1 north of Cambria in some twisties. A super bike rider almost clipped my front tire passing me on a blind curve over the double yellow. He almost got the bike in front of me as well, trying to pass first on the left, and then taking the outside apron to pass him as well as the two cars in front of him. On a curve. That BS has got to stop, and as far as I'm concerned he threatened my life. 85 in a 35mph zone, wheelies, no insurance, no registration, are all BS. I'd throw their a$$ in jail on the first offence. Call me an old fogey if you want, but if I'd had a gun I'da shot the SOB....
  7. I'm always finding webs around on the bikes. No BW's so far... I find a ride at triple digits will get rid of them... for a while....
  8. And of course JB you're gonna post the measurements here so I won't have to go thru all that nipping and tucking... I do like the idea of using a thicker aluminum... 1/2" maybe... and counter boring so the trunk will fit flush to the bracket....
  9. With the starting bid at $8,000 I bet he doesn't get any bids. You'd be better off picking up an '86+ Venture, triking it, and be in it for less money.... And if I were going to spend that kind of money I'd look at this one first TRIKE
  10. The trike is for sale on Ebay. Here's a LINK with all the info.
  11. The Corbin passenger space behind the backrest on my '91 is really limited. Looks like something that needs to be looked into. I don't really need a higher trunk, just about 2-3 inches more room aft. I wonder if I can get away with just making flat bracket extensions??
  12. I've never gapped the plugs as they're pre-gapped by the manufacturer. I guess it wouldn't hurt to check, but I just toss 'm in right out of the box. A couple of folks have replaced their fuse panels with aftermarkets, and moved them off the battery and onto the top of the air cleaner box. Squidley has done a few and would be the guy to contact for info on panel type etc...
  13. The '83VR doesn't have a bleeder valve in the top loop of the front brake line. The bleeder was added because it was such a PITA getting air out of the left front. That's what we get for owning the 'BETA' model.....
  14. Yep, scary.... And next week there'll be a bunch listed because everyone thinks they've got a gold mine and wants to cash in.... and the price will drop. Hmmm... What did I do with that extra back rest????
  15. Man, it makes my palms itch..... Royal Custom
  16. Nice web site. I still don't understand how the beads migrate from the heavy side, but I guess it works or they wouldn't be selling any... My thought is that Ride-On also balances a tire, plus has the added benifit of keeping punchers sealed, and since the Dyna-beads are not fixed, and need to balance the tire each time it begins to rotated, that if we ever had to add any type sealer post-leak those beads would start sticking where they're not supposed to be and instead of being able to continue riding the bike would start hopping all over the place???
  17. Interesting, why don't you take a pic of the brown one and post it. I'd like to see what it looks like...maybe others would too.
  18. Nope they all have white lettering. The cruise lettering is in green. The 83 doesn't have cruise. The 83/84's thumb switch is on/off/set, and the 86+ thumb is set/accell/decell. Got side tracked with the project with VWIV and all. Need to get back on it.
  19. You need to check with Friesman. He might be parting out his '85. The bottom end of the motor is toast, and will cost more to fix than I think he wants to put into it. He's on the road back home from VWIV with a brief stop over at a wedding. If you email him he's on BlackBerry and will get back to you fairly quickly.
  20. Stick with your buddies trailer, or another single wheel type, since you've already committed to the type of hitch you've ordered. The single takes a totally different mounting system than a 2 wheel.
  21. Here's a pic of a salve 99 I looked at. http://www.cast-aways.com/YAMAHA/IMGP1919%20(Medium).JPG
  22. I can understand putting a rt.angle on the rear, but for the life of me can't understand why anyone would put one on the front when it's so easy to get to??? BTW if you do, make sure the installer does it right. Ask Lone Eagle about that one.....
  23. I get most of mine off Ebay, and I use two different types. Since I don't have the luxury of garage storage and the bikes are left outside all year, one is a thicker bullet proof all-weather variety, and then when I'm out on the road overnight I have one made out of lighter nylon that stuffs into a very small bag. The heavy weights cost around $35-$40 bucks, the light weights are around $20 bucks, and that's delivered. While at VWIV last weekend I had a used half cover I'd bought that only covered the top of the scoot. I didn't like it. It did it's job keeping friday mornings thunder storm and rain off, but it didn't give that out-of-sight..out-of-mind protection that a full cover affords.
  24. LOL... I barely know how to post the pics....
