  1. I think on a 2ndGen you have to remove a few things in order to get to the plugs. It's a little hard to get to the 1stGens also, but I can get that tool bag socket down on the plug and one of those flat box end wrenches on the top of it. Generally after getting it loose by half a turn it can be removed with finger power.
  2. Somebody loaded my smiles box with a ton of extra grins....
  3. It may be opitical, but to me the Kawi looks like it has a little more rake than normal... Did I win...huh?huh?
  4. I was just going to post to find out if that fuel pump high pressure problem was under control... Guess it is. Have a great time...
  5. I contacted the seller of the diapragms on Ebay questioning him about the application of them on the 1stGens as stated in his title. I don't know if anyone has tried to seperate the rubber from the slide, but I find it nearly impossible. This is a copy of our discussion. I'd be very carefull if any of you were thinking about bidding on this auction. Are you sure these will fit a XVZ12 XVZ13 VENTURE ROYAL The reason I ask is that, unlike other daiphragms, it's almost impossible to split the rings without damaging them, and the alignment tab on the edge shown in the pic will not fit the recess on the carb body. Comment?? Thanks Hi, well, Herman in the Netherlands, ebay ID storm-h( 72) was my first customer, he had installed these in two bikes, we worked togheter a long time trying to find out if these diaphragm will fit that bike. You may contact Herman for feedback. Regarding the tab you can just cut it off. Hope this helps. Any doubt contact me. Rob Well, that may take care of the tab issue, but I still can see a potential for a developing an air leak as long as the indent remains empty. What it doesn't address is how your friend Herman split the flanges to replace the older membrain as the rings are a press fit, very fragile, and very difficult to seperate with out breaking. If you're lucky you may seperate one out of the four successfully. That's why replacement diaphragms are sold already installed on their plastic slide. Unless you plan on backing up your claim, you may want to post a disclaimer to your application claim, or guarantee they will work, which I know they won't. How do I know that? I've owned a lot of Ventures over the years, and rebuilt a few Venture carb sets during that period. Just a word of advise. I'd suggest rewording your auction title and discription. First I need to thank you for your time and help in this matter, I need to say that I am a honest seller, I has been contacted by a Venture specialist from the Netherlands really interested in these diaphragm after Herman's purchase so at this point after your email I am really confused and unfortunately really ignorant in this matter. Please advise on how I should rewording my auction according your experience in this matter. I don't want to deceive people if these parts will not work and obviouslly I will refund money but at this time I am thinking in cancelling this auction....sincerely. Rob Hi Rob. Perhaps the expert friend in the Netherlands could supply you with pictures of a Venture diaphragm membrain being replaced, like those you've posted in the auction using another diaphragm type?? Perhaps he knows something we don't?? Until then, I'd relist just for the bike the membrain was designed to fit. If you don't absolutely know what it fits then more research is in order. I know it was not designed to fit a Venture when the tab has to be removed. Thanks, I am concerned about al that so just cancelled auction until I can make sure what I am selling, thanks again for your help. Sincerely. rob. Probably best all the way around Rob. Good luck. Thanks Jack, I appreciate your comments, awaiting response to them from my experts in the Netherlands. Rob Jack A LITLE UPDATE I just received an E-mail from Rob the seller and he sent me the response from his friend Herman. Personally I've never had any success removing the diaphragm rubbers as discribed. Maybe it can be done?? Anyone here ever tried it? Goodmorning Rob. I can only tell you about my own expierience with changing the diaphragms. All four came off pretty easily with a bit of twisting and pulling ( they were busted so there was no need to keep then in one piece ) . This means that you don't have to split the carb, slides and after a bit of lubrication you can install the new diaphragms, with care ofcourse and that's it. I think that it all depends on the skills and the patience of the person installing these diaphragms, nomatter what kind of bike you have. So I think that maybe you should mention a certain amount of mechanical skill or background is needed to make this a succesfull operation. I hope this provides you with enough information. Take care. Herman
  6. If you're on the east side you can't BBQ...you just think you can....
  7. Great idea. Now if we could only get them to add a little info to the history page?? We could start refering to the Ventures as a 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, or Tutu.....
  8. Anything east of the Mississippi ain't BBQ.
  9. I think the biggest drawback to CB's is that they don't do the vent option. Otherwise I've heard nothing but good about their quality.
  10. Piggy Backer has a removable post that fits over the tongue, and they also make a cooler rack that's nice. I don't know what their prices are, but you can call them. Great folks to do business with. http://piggybacker.stehltow.com/
  11. Hola amigo!! They get chilli in Texas....
  12. Did you reset the idle mixture screws after you had the carbs off the bike. And try loosening the fuel cable adjustments at the grip a bit to see it they might be a little tight not allowing the throttle to close entirely... This may cause your sync to be short lived. ???
  13. The problem with those radiating heaters is they only warm the surface of the thing they're pointed at. They don't warm the air. We had them for one year at our deer camp in Colorado, and they were a PITA. If you didn't stand right in front of it you froze... and you had to keep turning to keep warm. Kinda like a pig on a spit... Made getting your skivies on in the morning very interesting....
  14. Haven't figured out how to get two different bikes to work on the same key.... Yet!!
  15. Dang, nothings sacred anymore....
  16. Check with Friesman on this one. After VWIV his lower engine is a basket case. He can fill you in on the details of what caused it...
  17. Lots of suggestions. I use one of those Lasko upright fan/ossilating heaters with a built in thermostat from SAM's Club.. Small foot print, sets in a corner, and I leave it on 24/7 during the winter set at around 65 degs. Keeps things warm and toasty. The problem I see with heaters that are only run when it's extremely cold is everything gets cold and it takes forever to bring the temp up. The Lasko cycles on and off, and it's always nice.

  19. The difference between Avons from Southwestmoto.com and the unknown Maxxi's will be about 35-40 bucks, and for that difference I suggest biting the bullet and getting the known Avons. The one thing you don't want to do is skimp on tires. They are the only thing between you and very hard pavement....
  20. That's where I get mine done too. The key code can be found on the back side of the ignition switch. I've never tried, but may you could get it with a flashlight and mirror??
  21. The bench mark for replacement is, if they are torn, replace them. If they have small pin holes they can be repaired although some folks will replace. The only difference between the 83-85 diaphragm and the 86-93 is the air hole in one housing housing is bigger. Otherwise they're the same. I've repaired pin hole diaphragms with success using a product called Plasti-Dip spray. I guess it's time to whip up a tech page on the process. Generally with the lid of the aircleaner off and reving the motor you should be able to see the plastic housing moving in the venturi of the carb. If one doesn't react in unison with the others, or not at all, it's probably bad. You can exchange diaphragms from one carb to another as long as it from 1200 to 1200, or 1300 to 1300. Some guys have punched the hole out on the smaller...can't remember which series has the larger hole... and used it on the larger.
  22. 83-85 1stGen MKI 86-93 1stGen MKII 99-pres 2ndGen I still don't know where the detuned 96-98 Royal Stars fall into the whole scheme of things as they still had the V4 motor. Here's a link to the board history page. http://www.venturerider.org/modules/history/index.php
  23. Bob, Thought about you and our discussion over the fork braces. This might be right up your alley.... Might make for another VR.org closet industry item...
  24. Yep, loose lips sink ships..... Just repeating the numbers quoted from a previous post. I have no reason to not believe him. Especially since dealers aren't stocking them in any great number, and one of the big *****es on this board is locating a dealer that even has one on the floor for sale. You need to read all the previous posts..... To make it easy here's a copy of the text. Today I picked up my bike from the dealer. Has a new fuel pump installed. I asked the parts manager when the 09's would be out. He said septmeber 9. I mentioned the rumors about the venture. He said he moved to Tallahassee, Florida from Wisconsin. Said he worked for a yamaha dealership in Wisconsin for 14 years and was in sales. He said he doubts there will be a venure in 09. I'm just repeating what he said but he said yamaha sold less than 1700 ventures in 2007. I asked if he meant 17,000 and he said no 1700. The dealership got 2 ventures per year and he said he always sold them as soon as they got them but yamaha doesn't seem to care about the venture. He doesn't think there will be another venture at all in the future. Time will tell.
  25. When they only sell 1700 units that look like a Harley, don't ecpect them to continue down that road. Big Gold Wing like cruisers are still selling, and they sold a ton of Wing knock-offs with the first generations. I'd speculate that they're seriously..if not already.. designing something that will go after the GW market like they did with the 1stGens. They have the motor with the new V-Max, it doesn't make sense to not look at another line of bikes to dilute the R&D costs over a broader base. IMHO.......... It's still gonna be fun speculating...
