Here's what it should look like when OFF. Actually the writing is upside down if you can't see the arrow.

Hanna looks like she's changed direction and is being pushed back over Cuba into the Caribian and also out into the Atlantic. It's iffy which way she'll actually end up going, but my bet is she'll reform in the Caribian and pick up strengh before heading north on the same path that Gustov took due to the warmer water. Then again maybe she'll break up and disappear.....

I agree with Squeeze. If the drain valve is 'on' the coolant is by-passing the thermostat and takes forever to warm up.. It'll also cause the motor to run hot after a long run as the fluid doesn't have enough time in the radiator to transfer the heat. First check to make sure the drain valve is 'off'.....

New tire, caliper now over-heating....
Condor replied to FutureVentures's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Somethings dragging somewhere, but the first thing you need to address is that caliper bolt. 3/4 of the way in ain't gonna get it. It might be just cross threaded. When I bought my first VR one of the calipers had stripped threads. Ended up replacing it with another off Ebay back when you could still buy 'm cheap..... I think once you get the caliper on, and aligned right, your dragging/heat problem will go away. New pads will always drag a bit until they seat into the rotor. I might also add that when mounting the calipers never tighten down one bolt and then go to the other. Leave the first one loose until you get the second started. -
Don't get me started Rick... I went to a Chiropractor for a bad back back in my 30's. Came out worse than when I went in.... Told myself, never again. BTW I saw a bike on Craigs that looked exactely like your's. You have a twin running around out there somewhere....

Front Suspension Issues
Condor replied to rez's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like you had a great time.... Where's the pics!!!!!!!!! -
I just want it to go away.... IO hate this feeling...or lack of... If I need surgery, so be it. I just hope the HMO... Kaiser... doesn't try to put it off. They have a tendency to do that. Actually it's the thumb print side, the index, middle...worse of the lot.. and ring. So four total. The little finger is fine. Been using it to open bottles ect. If I try to grab or pick up something with my thumb and middle I can't tell if I even have it unless I'm looking at it. Dropped a carving knife a couple days ago and it almost hit my foot.... Impossible to pick up a quarter, or piece of paper off the floor. Another thing is my power grip has gone to 'H' in a hand basket. I have to use my left hand to open anything hard. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. Apparently Carpol Tunnel isn't as rare as Common Sense....

If it looks like I'm going to need surgery on the wrist I'm going to try to schedule it for sometime in Jan'09. Jan-Feb-Mar are wet...

Good tip. I've never had a fushion done, but I slouch somethin' terrible while riding. It's a tall person problem. I'm gonna start laying flat on my back on the floor to see if that'll help. I may never make it back up.....

I have a problem with my right hand, and sometimes my left, going dead after riding a while. I know...Carpol Tunnel... On the '83 I have a throttle lock that I can set in order to relax the hand and get the blood flow back into it. Some rides are worse than others, but on Saturday's VWIV ride from Ft Hunter-Ligette, 25 miles over to Hwy1 on the coast, we were in some fairly twisty road conditions, and I couldn't set the lock to relieve the numbness in my right hand. So for just about all of that portion of the ride... 1.5 hrs.. I had to twist the throttle with a numb hand. After a while it hurt like 'H'. Long story short, I think I screwed up my hand big time. It's been two weeks and the tips of the fingers on the right hands are numb 24/7 and they ain't getting any better. Went to the Doc's and she was non-comittal as to the cause. I have an appointment with... I guess.. a neurologist for tests on the 12th. I wondering if anybody else has had this happen to them, and did you finally get the feeling back?? Talk about a PITA trying to zip up the fly when I can't feel the tang!!!

I've seen the thicker Barrons grids like those on the rear running lights of the add on bumpers and light bars, but these things look a lot thinner. They do make a chrome bead striping material that's available thru some auto supply stores. SilverT used the stuff on his '87...looks really nice..., and I think Buddy Rich used some on the fins?? of his 2ndGen. If it is VL it's got to be rarer than chicken lips, and for something that nice I wonder why there's not more of them showing up on 1stGens??? Oh well... gonna have to go play around a bit.... I do like the look...

Anyone carry spare key on cycle?
Condor replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I ain't gonna tell you that I don't have a spare key because as soon as I do I'll loose the only one I have..... -
Yep. Your CM needs to be resoldered. There are a couple of threads, and I believe?? a write up on the repair in the Tech Libarary. Had the same problem with my '83. I was going to do the repair, but found a nicer dash that I R&R'd and the problem went away. If you can't find it on this board here's a LINK to a repair artical on the web

1st gen Carb sync.
Condor replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sorry for the non-replies Tim. It's just that the subject has been hashed and rehashed over and over on this board. There is a how-to for the second generation in the tech section for the 2ndGens and it can be applied to the 1stGen's as well, and there's also a good discription on the sequence in the manuals section for the 1stGens. For generic what it does, and how-to instructions, there's good reading on http://www.carbtune.com/. If you do a search on this board for all threads on carb sync's, and you read them all, you should be an expert by the time you're through.... -
Geeze JB. You and Murphy must be on a first name basis by now..... I got wore out just reading your post..

Prayers for a quick recovery have been sent. I am curious about the crash details. What make or type trailer was Bob pulling, and when he started to fall back was he already having problems controlling the bike?? When a trailer doesn't have enough tongue weight it will start to sway from side to side. I'd like to learn more when Bob is back up and on his feet. Maybe we can all learn something about what not to do...

Center Stand Help
Condor replied to pilothawk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Nope, the side stand can be down. Even knowing all the tricks, there are times when even I can't even get one up on the center stand using conventional methods, and I'm not a flea weight. The problem is that when the pressure is low enough, or gone in the front forks and rear shock, the bike sits so low that there's barely enough room to get a toe in on the center stand pad, and standing on it is out of the question. Getting the scoot up on the CS is not a one man job... You need help. If your CLASS system is working, put max pressure in the suspension, and give it another try. You may find it easier??? -
I may be wrong, but I don't think they made Venture Line stuff for 2ndGens. I think it was more along the line of Star Accessories. If you look at those side brackets they have the 3 odd shaped adjustment holes that allow for forward/aft positioning of the side posts. The posts... kinda a wishbone affair.. are missing. The set would make a nice up grade refresher for one of the Venture Line back rests, but not at $150 bucks....

And I gotta add, if I didn't see it I wouldn'a believed it. We live on a fairly narrow dead-end street, and when Brian went to turn the whole rig around he just drove down the street where he had room and swung a U-E. No backing up into an empty drive way for him. It's gotta be the first time that's ever happened in the 40+ years we've lived here....
