It's for the '91 and that project is on the back burner for awhile...along with all the rest of them.. I'd still hold onto the stock final just in case the mod doesn't work out to be a good thing. OEM MkII's show up on Ebay all the time... just not when you need one....

Keep it. You're not going to get one bit more for your bike if you leave it on.

brake fluid reservoir troubles
Condor replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You might as well pick it up. The shop isn't going to find one that quickly...unless they also see it and are bidding on it. Then you might have a problem. I'd touch bases with them to make sure you don't buck heads....- 10 replies

I use PAM on the forks. Get a dried bug on the tube and it could nick your fork seals. PAM will keep the dried bug body from sticking to the tube and slide up out of harms way when the fork is compressed. The stuff is too gooey to put on the fairing ect. I just use Pledge or plain water to soften things up for cleaning. Actually Pledge and a micro-towel remove bug guts off the windshield pretty good without any help.

All Yamaha parts prices are keystoned. In other words they get them for half of retail. Looks like your dealer was even a bit more greedy..... -
I donno what's going on. I burn Ca. Ethanol, and it doesn't seem to make any difference in mpg. MOF the worst fuel milage I've received is out of state and running 70-80mph on the interstates. Burning non-ethanol fuel. I get 40-43mpg around town, and up to 50mpg in the local mountain twisties with ethanol. When riding out of state, and slabbin' it most of the time, I'll drop down to 37-38mpg. So I think it's more of a speed issue, than what I'm burning. Sure ethanol costs a bit in mpg, but I think it's more the surrounding type of area you ride in that effects overall milage. High speed slabbing's gonna cost you.

Zipping right along.... Kinda cool.. -
Wow!! I've been lusting after a Zumo for a while, but now I'm not too sure?? I do have a GPS. An 'El Cheepo' Whistler 550, and it's never locked up, taken me down the wrong road, or failed to lead me to the closest gas station. Once when I went to buy another VR the location was in a very large housing developement with all kinds of streets heading off to nowhere, and it led me right to the place. Turn for turn..short and long. Never missed a beat. The only problem is the screen isn't the greatest in broad daylight. But that is offset by a very sexy voice telling me where to go....

It's first come fist served on the MAC's. In other words money talks. If you'd like to be included I'll need a Paypal for the amount stated in the first post.
-
OK guys, here's the info I've received this AM concerning the MAC's. They are going to start building them Monday or Tuesday of next week and it's going to take about 3 weeks to get them shipped out to me. Now, I went ahead and stuck my neck out and ordered an extra 3 sets, and one of them is already spoken for. So's there's 2 sets still available.. If there's anyone who'd like to pick up a set, PM me.

Battery drain problems
Condor replied to Iowa Guy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm trying out a Chinese AGM battery, and on the last ride I used the Tape Deck a lot. After a while I noticed that the bike bogged when starting. I turned off the deck and after a bit the bog disappeared, and it was business as usual. I'm sure the battery doesn't have the highest CCA rating, but just how many amps does that tape deck draw anyway?? -
Pretty much a direct bolt on. You'll need to swap out the bolts to shorter ones, and mess around a bit getting them on, but they're made to replace the OEMs.

89 VR Will not idle lower than 1500 RMP

Yep good advise Carl. Been there done that. -
I've replaced all the cover gaskets at one time or another and don't use a thing. I make very sure that all old gasket material is completely removed off both mating surfaces before buttoning it back up.... Never have a problem with leaks. Which reminds me of a story. My first bike was a '53 Aerial Square Four, and the sump cover never had a gasket. I remember working the cover on a plate of glass with toothpaste to insure that the cover...which did warp a bit... was absolutely flat.... Still leaked once in a while....

New Tire, slow air leak, ain't one thing....
Condor replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
Time to break out the spray bottle of soapy water. Wet the tire down completely, especially around the bead, and you'll see if you have any leaks..... -
I used to be a staunch supporter of Premium fuel, but.... after prices started to climb I started to buy Regular, and to be honest I can't see any difference in performance or milage between the two grades.

Butt Butler Update on Pillow Top Seats
Condor replied to Rick Butler's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the reply Rick. Just thought I'd ask. I have put several 600 mile days in the '83 saddle and felt fine afterwards.. It was just a personal preference, and I'll be fine riding it just the way it is. I bet it's as soft as a pillow top.... -

Butt Butler Update on Pillow Top Seats
Condor replied to Rick Butler's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a 1stGen seat made by a local leather shop for the previous owner, and the foam they used is really soft, and offers little cushioning. It's not totally uncomfortable, but I wish it had a bit more asset support. Unlike most on this board I like the stiffness and shape of the Corbin on my '91, but my '83 could use a little more butt padding. Could you do something like this???
