Mike wants to sell his 2ndGen for $2500.....

As far as I know all the CLASS controllers are the same. 83-93. They changed the mount location in 86, but that's it.

Trunk trim for 90 Venture

Or the reflector?? If it had lights the search is gonna take a while. Now that I think about it I haven't seen a light bar reflector on Ebay in just about forever. MOF there's not much of anything cosmetic on Ebay right now.... -

If it t'were I, I'd get some of that 'form-a-gasket' from Perma-tex, or 3M and run a bead along the bottom edge of the stator case on both sides of a single gasket. Let it sit partially snugged until the stuff sets, and then torque it down. If it leaks after that, then the leak is coming from somewhere else. -

DOH!! There's a rear Caliper???? :rotf: Actually on my '83 I have 6 total. Hydralic anti-dives.. 2, calipers.. 3, and clutch.. 1. I got carried away... Luv 'm though... On the later 86-93 MkII's with the electric AD's it's 4 total. -
Gotta love dem swaps... We used to have one held locally by a dealer, but they've since closed their doors. I'd found some dirt cheap stuff..even VR items for next to nothing. I do miss it.....

1st GEN. SPEED BLEADERS

Three. Both brake calipers and the clutch. The number you want is 8125L. Get them from Speed-Bleeder direct. About 7 bucks each plus shipping. They also have them listed on Ebay. $21.00 bucks for 2 plus shipping. Never have been able to figure that one out??? -
I never went after it because of the money he wanted out of it. He listed it again on CL, and I was warming up to toss a grand at him, but after about 3 days the ad was deleted, so I assume he finally found a buyer. I actually still have the pics in a file, but it's kinda a moot point now.

With the thing still leaking as much as it is, I find it surprising that you can't put your finger on the leak?? Have you ever tried covering all the area with talc, and let it warm up in idle til it starts leaking?? That'll usually pinpoint the culprit by leaving a trail. -
I just want to let all those, who are subscribed to this thread, that I'm trying to stay on top of things with MAC, and did call them this AM. They said they'll get back to me this afternoon. What a wrestling match. I gotta tell you, this will probably be our last group buy. I know you folks appreciate the effort put in on this thing, but what originally was nothing more than a bartered negotian for group pricing has turned into a real marathon. And quite frankly, I'm getting tired and running out of steam...... 'Nuff said. I'll keep you posted.

Sticking caliper

Thanks once again Squeeze. You're a verible fountain of info. Keep tabs on your buddy with the brackets, I'd be interested in them if they ever become available. Meanwhile I'll start asking around here in the US. Thanks for the leads.... -
Rear end gearbox

I know we're talking finals here, but friction is friction no matter where it occurs, and the modifiers might be a good thing.... Just wondering.??? -
You're supposed to ride these things, not keep dropping them.... A '99 in nice condition sells for around 5.5-6.5K. On a bike with a salve title knock off 1.5 grand, and fairing problems another grand. Plastic is still expensive for the second gens...even on Ebay. Hope this helps.

Sticking caliper
Condor replied to okiefirefighter's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Squeeze do you know what type..make bracket is used? Is it one that already exists or is it something that would have to be made up?? Doing the R1/R6 caliper mod on an '83 would be a big improvement. -
Famed 83-85 2nd gear failure

The last time I posted anything about the punch mark was to ask if anyone had ever seen one of the illusive things??? I never have. I think it may have been a couple of dealers way of telling if a bike had been modified, but maybe wasn't a common practice with all dealers, and has since become a myth??? I don't even know if there is a tech bulletin that mentions marking it, or explains where to put it. If there is I'd like to hear about it..... -
Thanks Squeeze. I wonder if it had anything to do with different heat transfers between the two metals. Aluminum would transfer heat/energy to the fluid quicker, but also disapate the heat just as quickly. While steel would heat slower and cool slower. Keeping the brakes cool is the most important thing, and depending on the style of riding, either application would do well. For light usage applications perhaps steel would be a better choice.
-
Thanks Squeeze. I've never seen a silver for sale... or maybe I just haven't noticed ?? Which do you think would actually be better?? Steel rusts and aluminum oxidizes???
-
What's the difference between the gold and blue dot R1/R6 calipers??? Any difference beside the color???

Unless a something unexplained happens it looks like we'll be holding Venture West #5 in Cody Wy. Next year. The Beartooth Highway is one of the rides we'd like to do for a group ride. If anyone is interested in attending next years shindig the polls are still open til tomorrow morning at http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27730 It should be a kick-ass-time.

Some of the guys have doubled up their springs in the MkII clutches with good results. Others have changed out the presure plate to a Barnet with the coil springs. Although the friction plates may not look worn and mic out OK, the surfaces may have harden with age and not grab as well as new. Another thing to consider is the clutch fluid needs to be bled, and the fluid expansion hole checked for blockage.. When the fluid heats up with engine heat it will expand and cause the clutch to slip. Here's a tech article on a Barnet replacement... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=491
