  1. All the stock saddles are going to feel basically the same. You can find them all over Ebay. The '87 takes the one with the flaired out passenger seat. If you want to get it enlarged I'd talk to Rick Butler. I'm also a big guy, and I picked up a Corbin a few years ago, and finally put it on the '91. In comparison my '83 has a custom soft leather saddle. When I climbed on the Corbin I just went Ahhhh!!! It was hard, but dang it felt good. It was also must have been custom built for a big guy, and I actually gained a couple of inches rearward. On the '83 my knees almost touch the fairing. With the Corbin I actually have 2-3 inches of room in front of the knees. The passenger seat actually goes under the back rest about 2". To the point that there isn't much passenger room, or even enough room to put a duffle in there. So it's time to move the trunk a few inches back....but that's another story... Good luck finding something that'll work for you.
  2. :sign20:I already have a pair of those rose colored glasses. Doesn't help. But my expectations are higher....:rotf:
  3. If I ever had the $ and decided to roll over to the dark side. This'd be the bike that would make me do it.... Love dem 2006 Black Cherry's. Dang, it's a bummer being poor....
  4. They make Red duct tape???.... Gotta git me some..
  5. I'm not that industrious Brian... read lazy... I'm looking at replacing a couple of dash lamps with red ones... Maybe 3..4 bulbs at the most.. Don't even have to remove the dash to do it. Kinda a plug and play operation... A dimmer would be nice, but doing any sort of mod is more than I want to get into...
  6. I rig my MkII's with a length of plain old black electrical wire to keep the lids where I put them. Just take about 12" of wire, and crimp 'eye' connecters onto the ends. Attach them using the acorns on the lid to one on the back of the lock. Put one on the front and the back lock. Works great and it's cheap. We all have electrical wiring and connectors laying around... No?? Time for a trip to Harbor Frieght....
  7. This subject came up in another thread and I didn't want to hi-jack it. But for those of us that own '83's and ride at night anytime, for me anyway, the lights are really bright and almost blinding. I guess that's why the '84's came out with a dimmer knob... I wonder if giving them the red treatment might help tone things down a bit?? Anyone ever changed theirs out. Red is the only color that doesn't ruin your night vision. And red might just make the dash look kinda 'cool'..... The only drawback I can see would be that anything colored red on the dials will disappear at night. Gonna have to go out and check the guages.
  8. Looks pretty sanitary to me...
  9. I'd suspect the CMU needs a good re-soldering. Sometimes when it's very cold the tach on my '83 doesn't move until I've been on the road a bit. I've never worried about it, and let it do it's thing.... At 25 years old it has a mind of it's own....
  10. I'm no expert, but it sounds like your ISP isn't responding, or... the files may be too big and the server is pulling a time-out???. Simple Mail Transfer Protocall. Either that or your personal mail reader info has been corrupted and it's trying to send the forms somewhere that doesn't exist??? Just few thoughts....
  11. I've never had the slip problem as described, but I'm wondering if the feeling is more that the front forks aren't working together on compression in the curves, and gives the feeling of the tire letting go a bit when it's actually the forks twisting??? Just a thought....???
  12. I understand what you're saying Paul, but they won't go on without some slicing and dicing. They're not a direct bolt on. The MkI's will bolt right on the MkII's with very little effort. Just add washers. I guess I shouldn't have said 'period'......
  13. I understand where you're coming from Dan. I had to put my G.Shepperd Shane down after 14 years. He was my Bud. Still get weepy even thinking about him. Can't handle another dog....
  14. Those set ups on the reserve are really cool, but I don't think you're going to find one to fit a 1stGen. If you do let me know... My '91 has three on-off-on position toggles mounted in the strip between the center cover and the tape player. The PO did a fairly decent job and they look pretty good. I mount one on the right dash for the driving lights on the '83 that works pretty good. Although I'm going to change the toggle to one of those protected safety toggles from Radio Shack. I think it's a #206. I keep hitting the toggle and accidently turning on the driving lights. Killed the batt a couple of times.
  15. There not a straight across replacement. The mounting flange on the MkII's is thicker and the MkI mufflers will need to be smoozed with washers to make them line up properly. It can be done tho-. The other way around, and taking a MkII and putting it on a MkI wouldn't work period.
  16. Dan- There are lots of great places to visit in the Las Vegas area, both in and out of town. We also have a few neat VR members in residence there. Early spring or late summer/fall would probably be the best time to go. Hey...it's a dry heat... Trailering would be your best bet, and the cheapest with three bikes, and then be fresh for riding the area. If you happen to make the trip in June, we might possibily have a VRRally in Cody Wy mid month. Riding Yellowstone and the Beartooth, plus watching Old Faithfull just might fit into your schedule.
  17. This may not hold water any longer, but my brother listed my nephew under a beat up old 50cc bike with a good current title that he'd bought for just that reason. It just sat in the garage...didn't run. Then he added the kids Mustang to his regular policy as an extra vehicle since he was the title holder anyway. Saved him a bunch. The nephew is now about ready to retire after 25 years in law inforcement... Go figure.
  18. Lowell... you don't give the stuff time to dry out before the tire wears out..... Not a fair comparison...:rotf:
  19. :sign20:Thanks Mike. Ya made my day!! It's not often I :rotfl:so early in the morning.....
  20. That's the comment I was going to make Eck. Not enough Ride-On. Since the stuff is supposed to continually balance the tire it needs to stay in semi-solution. I think I read somewhere on there site that it changes properties and flows when the wheel is in motion, and then sets up when it's not to keep the stuff from pooling at the bottom of the tire and maintaining balance while at rest. When I talked to customer service before ordering just two bottles they mentioned the 3 bottle kit because of the possible need for the extra. Besides it was a better price...
  21. Called them about 3 days ago. Saymo..saymo. I'm just about ready to offer a refund to anyone who's like one. I'm getting as frustrated as the rest of you, believe me. OK here's the latest word. Just got off the phone with MAC. They'll have the mufflers done in 2 weeks... I know..I know. They said they will start cutting and bending them tomorrow. I hope so.
  22. Has anyone here replaced a tire that Ride-On had been used in?? Was it still as water soluable as when it was put in? Any mess when it was taken off the rim???
  23. Just a reminder that any of you that were thinking about riding to Cody Wy next year, your chance to put in your 2¢, and pick a date that'll work for you, is ending next week on the 21st. We need your input. Cody'09 is going to be a low key affair with some great rides, a few meet'n'eats, with a last night diner gathering wrapped around some great riding in some awesome country. Some of the planning wheels are already in motion. We've started looking into T-Shirts, and lining up some inexpensive... as best we can...lodging. The lodging search can kick into gear in earnest once you decide on the date. So we need your vote. CODY'09 POLL
  24. I run pretty close to 'theoretical' load capicity on my '83, and I'm probably always over the limit. The rear tire is the original Elite II that came with the bike when I bought it. I've never had a lick of a problem in 7-8,000 miles with the bulk of those miles being put on loaded down with travel gear. I think if you're really concerned about weight on the rear tire you might think about pulling a trailer where the tongue weight would only add around 50-70#.
