  1. I bought a 3 bottle kit about a year ago, and then let it sit.... I do that a lot... Anyway I had to rebearing the front axle last month, and figured what the heck and added Ride-On to the front tire. I'm not sure if it was the new bearings or the Ride-On, but the tire seems to roll smoother, and the viabration wasn't as pronounced in the grips. The rear tire is about ready to be replaced, so it's getting it as well.
  2. With Anti's you can't apply them, then take your foot off, and then re-apply. They'll feel like there's nothing there. Unfortunately those of us that have been around a few years have developed our own anti-skid system, and it sure can get you in trouble when using anti-locks. I like the idea of anti-locks for nothing more than to keep the rear tire from locking up and the bike high siding. Now that can get painfull....
  3. 3 Up to the welding shop and back....
  4. That also happened to my '83, only it was the rear gasket/baffle that was holding the float down again the sensor. The reserve is a PITA to get to, so I took a bent piece of coat hanger and lifted the baffle portion up a bit. Problem solved. I know I didn't get it folded back up perfectly, but good enough to get rid of the sporadic warning light.
  5. There's a couple of different bracket designs that move the MkI trunks back a few inches. Jeff (Muffinman) sent me a set a couple of years back that were Z shaped for the MkI. Since the trunk is removable it's a matter of moving the whole mounting rack back with 4 small brackets. With the non-removable MkII's there's more to it and the brackets need to fit between the trunk and rack. If you do a search we had a thread going a couple of months ago on the project.

  7. Against my 50-80deg riding rule, I went out and rode in 42deg weather once.... Brrrr!!!!
  8. Nice pics. 'Specially that one-size-fits-all shirt Eck's wearing.....
  9. I see different types on Ebay occasionally. Some are well engineered, and some others are pretty cheesy looking... Nice sets bring big bucks.
  10. All the stock saddles are going to feel basically the same. You can find them all over Ebay. The '87 takes the one with the flaired out passenger seat. If you want to get it enlarged I'd talk to Rick Butler. I'm also a big guy, and I picked up a Corbin a few years ago, and finally put it on the '91. In comparison my '83 has a custom soft leather saddle. When I climbed on the Corbin I just went Ahhhh!!! It was hard, but dang it felt good. It was also must have been custom built for a big guy, and I actually gained a couple of inches rearward. On the '83 my knees almost touch the fairing. With the Corbin I actually have 2-3 inches of room in front of the knees. The passenger seat actually goes under the back rest about 2". To the point that there isn't much passenger room, or even enough room to put a duffle in there. So it's time to move the trunk a few inches back....but that's another story... Good luck finding something that'll work for you.
  11. :sign20:I already have a pair of those rose colored glasses. Doesn't help. But my expectations are higher....:rotf:
  12. If I ever had the $ and decided to roll over to the dark side. This'd be the bike that would make me do it.... Love dem 2006 Black Cherry's. Dang, it's a bummer being poor....
  13. They make Red duct tape???.... Gotta git me some..
  14. I'm not that industrious Brian... read lazy... I'm looking at replacing a couple of dash lamps with red ones... Maybe 3..4 bulbs at the most.. Don't even have to remove the dash to do it. Kinda a plug and play operation... A dimmer would be nice, but doing any sort of mod is more than I want to get into...
  15. I rig my MkII's with a length of plain old black electrical wire to keep the lids where I put them. Just take about 12" of wire, and crimp 'eye' connecters onto the ends. Attach them using the acorns on the lid to one on the back of the lock. Put one on the front and the back lock. Works great and it's cheap. We all have electrical wiring and connectors laying around... No?? Time for a trip to Harbor Frieght....
  16. This subject came up in another thread and I didn't want to hi-jack it. But for those of us that own '83's and ride at night anytime, for me anyway, the lights are really bright and almost blinding. I guess that's why the '84's came out with a dimmer knob... I wonder if giving them the red treatment might help tone things down a bit?? Anyone ever changed theirs out. Red is the only color that doesn't ruin your night vision. And red might just make the dash look kinda 'cool'..... The only drawback I can see would be that anything colored red on the dials will disappear at night. Gonna have to go out and check the guages.
  17. Looks pretty sanitary to me...
  18. I'd suspect the CMU needs a good re-soldering. Sometimes when it's very cold the tach on my '83 doesn't move until I've been on the road a bit. I've never worried about it, and let it do it's thing.... At 25 years old it has a mind of it's own....
  19. I'm no expert, but it sounds like your ISP isn't responding, or... the files may be too big and the server is pulling a time-out???. Simple Mail Transfer Protocall. Either that or your personal mail reader info has been corrupted and it's trying to send the forms somewhere that doesn't exist??? Just few thoughts....
  20. I've never had the slip problem as described, but I'm wondering if the feeling is more that the front forks aren't working together on compression in the curves, and gives the feeling of the tire letting go a bit when it's actually the forks twisting??? Just a thought....???
  21. I understand what you're saying Paul, but they won't go on without some slicing and dicing. They're not a direct bolt on. The MkI's will bolt right on the MkII's with very little effort. Just add washers. I guess I shouldn't have said 'period'......
  22. I understand where you're coming from Dan. I had to put my G.Shepperd Shane down after 14 years. He was my Bud. Still get weepy even thinking about him. Can't handle another dog....
  23. Those set ups on the reserve are really cool, but I don't think you're going to find one to fit a 1stGen. If you do let me know... My '91 has three on-off-on position toggles mounted in the strip between the center cover and the tape player. The PO did a fairly decent job and they look pretty good. I mount one on the right dash for the driving lights on the '83 that works pretty good. Although I'm going to change the toggle to one of those protected safety toggles from Radio Shack. I think it's a #206. I keep hitting the toggle and accidently turning on the driving lights. Killed the batt a couple of times.
  24. There not a straight across replacement. The mounting flange on the MkII's is thicker and the MkI mufflers will need to be smoozed with washers to make them line up properly. It can be done tho-. The other way around, and taking a MkII and putting it on a MkI wouldn't work period.
