  1. Yep, we're squared away 3rdBike. Sorry for the inconvience....
  2. HA!!! Same as my '83. I suspect the bags were replaced sometime in the past. Seems to be common on the older bikes....
  3. Thanks for the address, but I don't have any record of receiving a paypal payment from you, and the group buy has been closed for quite some time now. If somehow I've screwed up please let me know. Generally one of the prerequisites to get on the list is a fairly complete bio on your board profile page, with email contact in order to get hold of you, if need be. Again let me know if I've hic-cupped somewhere and you have paid. We'll straighten it out.
  4. I need your email address.....
  5. Just curious Squeeze.. Is there any advantage to going direct price wise? And do they still supporting the carbs used on the Venture's??
  6. Earl, I'm gonna take another approach. First off that is one beautiful '86, and is worth a lot more than $2200 bucks. From the looks of it in the pics the damage seems to be AM/FM/Tape panels, and the tank cover. The fairing doesn't look that bad, however those parts are still available thru Yamaha, and that adjuster's estimate of $800 is a joke. He's trying to get out of this one cheap. Tell 'm you'll take the $2200 for repairs and no salve title. The upper fairing and chin scoop can be repaired and the bike ridden until you can locate some matching replacements. The panels are also still available thru Yamaha. Secondly, I'd get a second opinion on the street value, and the parts cost. Take it to a Yamaha Dealer for an estimate. IMHO!!!
  7. FWIW, I think that's why setting the idle screws out 2.5 +/- turns seems to be a good generic setting. I don't have a clue about the ColorTune, but can you increase the R's to see what color flame you get when up at highway R's?? That might be a better way to judge what the motor is doing with the current jetting???
  8. It doesn't take long for things to green back up again after a big fire. By now the new growth has taken over, and grazing animals are back in there in droves eating all that fresh browse. I actually enjoy riding in an area a couple of years after the old growth has been torched, you can actually see something beside 'tree tunnels'.... See y'all on the Beartooth.
  9. I think any half cover made out of .75oz. rip-stop nylon will do the job. I'd never used a half before, but picked up one off Ebay by mistake... the seller stated it was a 'Venture' cover.... Used it on the Morro Bay VWIV ride this summer, and it did a great job, and it did rain for about an hour in the morning one of the days we were there. The thing is made by http://eztouring.com/ and is the traveler model. Stuffs into a very small sack. Great cover for overnight protection while away on a trip. And it's made in the USA!!.... I think??
  10. Lots of responses. I just thought I'd toss this website in there for the heck of it. I get their Email offers, and they are nice to dream about, but not something I'm capable of doing... http://www.edelweissbike.com/
  11. Dropped by Bill's this afternoon. Looked at a few things, but without a multi-meter it was pretty much a dry run. It had a mess of wiring for the trailer. The big problem was the old hard start when hot, so I'm going to drop off a set of Squidly Cables a bit later, and bring my multi-meter with me.... Harbor Frieght next stop....
  12. I picked up a Whistler GPS off WOOT for $99.00 and it works for me. Run it in the car, truck, or on the bike, can't see the screen in the direct sun, it's not waterproof, but it tells me where I am...even when I ain't. The kids like it in the car, and I like the sexy voice. It's helped me find a few local addresses, and one Motel 6 in Idaho, but for the most part it's just intertainment. I have known a few folks that need one to get acrossed town with out getting lost, but the day I can't get from one side of this country to the other by myself, I'll give up driving or riding....
  13. WOW!!!!!! What a find, and thanks for posting the brochure Rich. And thank you Mike for putting it all back together. When I bought the '91 it had a lot of chrome I never knew existed, and have always wondered just how much chrome had actually been added to it. Now it looks like it has 98% of what was available. The one part I need to replace I now have the part number and can maybe get my local dealer to do a national search??? This has been a fun morning!!!!!!! BTW: Just in case someone here might have one laying around??? It's #11 in the brochure. Part # ABA-26HCD-30-00. Right hand side. I don't care about the condition...rust is OK...just as long as it's semi-straight. I can rechrome it.
  14. There are several different blanks used for the ignition and accessories. I've had three different '83's and none of the keys will even go into the other slot, and one key fits all in every year. The ignition key numbers are on the underside of the ignition housing. (see pics) I have a couple of keys for the original '83, as I had to change out the saddle bag mount locks, but the ignition key fits everything else. Not that big of a deal to have two keys, but to each his own. You might try contacting http://www.motorcyclekeys.com/ and see if you could send them your old... and new switch and see if the tumblers could be swapped out, and keep the old key configuration. It's a lot cheaper to get the ignition switch right than to swap out all the others.
  15. I believe that the plastic final dip stick only came with the MK1's, and was not added to the '86 and after tool kit. You're right about it being sorta rare...just like the illusive punch mark for a repaired 2nd gear. I have one, but found it in the bottom of a box of stuff that came with the 83/84... I think??. Tossed it into tool chest in the office. That way I'll forget where I put it after a while.
  16. There's a guy in Europe 'hellslaus' that will pay ridiculous prices for very clean, or NOS Venture items. I think he is trying to corner the market,.... or he's obsessed... Back to the tools, I've picked up a couple of RSV tool kits myself for next to nothing off Ebay, then just added a few things to it, and have some nice kits for very little. Plus the stuff in most 2ndGen kits are usually like new. I guess that makes 'm other peoples children.... ???
  17. Well the kit finally sold for $103.50 plus shipping of $19.25. Talk about.... yeah I'm gonna say it... stupidy. Some peoples children....???
  18. Who in their right mind would spent this much money for a 1stGen tool kit. I keep seeing these things being listed on Ebay and it never ceases to amaze me what they sell for. Especially since you could probably build one with nicer tools for less.... TOOL KIT
  19. DONE.....
  20. Where do you carry all the tools...or does it come with a chase car??? Sorry I couldn't help myself:whistling: Hey it's winter...
  21. Yep, that's my problem. All kinds of them but not the right color. And the color for the '91 isn't that common.
  22. You may want to put an ad in the classifieds under wanted. It won't get buried quite so easily as one posted in a thread. And good luck. I'm still looking for one off a '91...
  23. Every time I think about what a bike would look like in yellow I get turned off. Every time I see a bike painted yellow I think it looks cool. Go figure...?? Very nice job..
  24. Yeah, I've done the same thing.. Doesn't that tick you off?? I try to pay with paypal only. MOF I had a heck of a time with a ghost member of this board who didn't take Paypal, and I ended up high bidder... What a wrestling match that was...
