  1. I really don't ever pay much attention to the forum a post is in because I hit the 'new posts' and read everything. Although in essence I agree about using the correct forum. MOVE 'M DANO.....!!!
  2. And they say white men can't jump......
  3. The screws are a nice idea. I've also found them at ACE Hardware. One thing you need to take care of is coat the threads with some sort of silicon to prevent galvanic corrosion. It occurs between Stainless and aluminum because there's quite a difference between the two metals on the noblility scale. On boats we have to be carefull about that all the time. The silicon makes a barrier... a good thing... between the aluminum to the stainless, and prevents electrons from transfering and corrosion occuring. The aluminum will disintigrate and turn to a white powder, and since the carb body is aluminum that can't be a good thing.
  4. I finally ended up using the same GM Orange stuff George, and for the same reason. Besides the price difference is about $10 bucks less per gallon than Amsoil. Flushed the entire system and it actually made a difference in the runing temp on the '83.
  5. The controller on my F250 can be adjusted for response time and pressure. Why would a bike be any different???
  6. Those little white pills were making me loopy.... Took me two days before I was able to work the dang arm on the side of the recliner. Had to put a vac extension over it to reach it with my left hand....
  7. The '89 (MkII) caliper and pads will not fit a MkI. The poster mentioned Discs, and I assumed...and you know what they say about that... he wanted to improve braking which deals with 4 piston calipers, and they are all 100mm bolt patterns. On the rotors you're probably right, and they are all interchangeable from '93 back to '83. I see Rocket posted about Denis Kirk having some aftermarkets rotors, but I suspect that that's not what Pete was asking about?? Or maybe it was?? Wadda I know....
  8. If the plug tool is hexed on both ends it should work. Some of the tools are only hexed on the plug end. Most all modern bike plugs are 18mm.
  9. Not to my knowledge. 83-85's mounting bolt holes have an 83mm spread, and the aftermarket as well as 86+ are 100mm. About the only thing you can do to improve braking, without going thru a fork swap, is go to the HH pads. I ride an '83 and don't plan on changing anything other than the HH pads.
  10. If you shop Ebay for an RSV tool kit they come with the OEM plug tool, and they don't bring much. It's fine for loosening and tightening the plugs. The plugs will come out by hand or if you have big fingers about 12" of 3/8" rubber hose will fit over the end of the plug and then you can unscrew it by turning the end of the hose.
  11. It's only been 3 days and I'm back to typing with two hands. Soreness is mostly gone except when applying a lot of torque to the wrist. I've always been a fairly fast healer. So maybe I'll be able to ride sooner than expected....and the rain and cold weather will return....
  12. At least I'd have a good excuse to not ride the scoot.....
  13. Suns out, blue bird sky, warm, and I wish it were snowing. Then I'd have a good excuse not to fire up the scoot and go for a ride, but here I sit with my throttle hand wrapped in dressing from surgery last friday. It's not supposed to be this nice, that's why I scheduled the Carpal for January..... ARRGGGH!!!
  14. When Don changes it everything gets changed...even the old posts...
  15. Send a note to Freebird. He'll change it to anything you want.
  16. What counts???
  17. I planned on putting a cruse control on my '83, but decided against it after looking at what was needed to do the job. So I went ahead and installed a throttle-lock. Took about 15 minutes, and does the job. The only problem I have is when I'm running with a pack of 2ndGens and their cruise controls. I'll speed up and slow down over hilly terrain, and they will maintain a constant speed. So I'm either lagging way back or running over the top of them.... On the flats it's fine. Riding long distance solo is great.
  18. I've never had a side cover gasket leak... and some of the engines have 70+K miles on them and are fairly long in the tooth. All the sealants are doing is treating the symptom and not the cause. Re-torqueing the bolts occasionally is a good suggestion, as you might be dealing with harmonics loosing them. You might also check for hairline cracks along the mating surfaces. And just for the heck of it, lay the cover on a flat pain of glass and check for a warping. A trick to clean up the mating surface of the cover is to take 1200 wet/dry in wet mode, tape it to the pane of glass, color the surface of the cover with a Marks-alot, and lap the surface of the cover in a circluar motion. If you have any low spots they will show up. Keep lapping until all the black disappears. Also make sure you're using 'dino' oil and not synthetics. The 1stGens don't like synthetics all that much.
  19. :rotf:
  20. Quit cold turkey back in '89. 3 packs of Marboro 100's per day. Now I get down wind of a smoker and I can't breathe...
  21. Thanks, glad they made it. Actually the shipping fees changed a lot since I first put the order in...and you can guess which way they went , so the extra $10 bucks went to a worthy cause and was appreciated.
  22. OK Dang it!!!!!!! I wanna see a pic..... I've never seen one before.
  23. If it is you've cut a sweet deal....
  24. Different chasis', basically the same V4 block....
