CLASS System E1
Condor replied to Fannydunk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
An E1 is kind of a shotgun error code on what the problem is. Could be nothing more than a low battery. It could also be a bad discharge valve. Or it could also be poor connections. And as already pointed out the controller needs to be resoldered. That said just about every error code responds to a PC board resolder. -

on the way home .......
Condor replied to brainfart's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've never had one go, but I think if tapping got it going again I'd replace it just for peace of mind.... I'd hate to be on a long trip somewhere and have it croak.... -
I think I remember someone putting out a helmet with A/C in it. Had a goofy little fan that ran a thermo-coupler. The top of the head is wear you loose most of your body heat. Stands to reason that it might be the place to keep things cool too. I can see getting real uncomfortable when it's hot and humid, but out here in the west it's mostly hot and dry and when you're moving it's not all that bad...just drink lots of water. I think I'd rather see all that plumbing running through the seat...

When I see them coming I'll give 'm room to split. I even had a Harley rider yell 'Thanks' as he rode by.. I think he belonged on a Venture... Even thou it's legal here in California I don't... No guts.....

MegaMax Gel Battery
Condor replied to BigMark7's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Seems there are those that will disagree with you. http://www.vonwentzel.net/Battery/01.Type/index.html http://www.batterystuff.com/tutorial_battery_gel_agm.html And there's a bunch more. Do a Google search on 'agm vs. gel battery' There isn't any gel in an AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery. They are not the same. -
MegaMax Gel Battery
Condor replied to BigMark7's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Mark, My experience with Gel Batteries is that they are very fragile, and if they start to boil the bubbles will become suspended in the gel and they will lose the ability to transfer ions from the plates to the anodes. AGM is the way to go. The Odyssey is the king of the batts so far, but there's a new kid on the block that I, and a coulple of other members are going to give a try. http://www.bigcrank.com/ A couple of things that they claim are the CCI's being better than the Odyssey and the footprint being the same as the OEM series 18 battery. I ordered one and it's in transit. Hang loose and more will be posted. -
MKii Chin Cowl bolts?
Condor replied to mbrood's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I gotta get me a couple sets of those domers. I just called my local Yamaha dealer and they quoted me $4.39 ea., and when told him I needed 8 of them, and would like to buy them local, and that I found them listed for $3 bucks somewhere else, he dropped the price to $2.89 each. I also ordered the sleeves, didn't ask the price...didn't care.. Sometimes you win some.... -
Let us know what you turn up Steve... I figure just selling off the plastic would be enough to recover a low wining bid plus... I'da been real interested if it were local....

I don't know about the rest of the years, but on a long day ride in extream heat, the seat on a hot runing '83 will toast your buns without them in. Then again it might be a good thing when there's white stuff on the ground....

MAC muffler fit and finish
Condor replied to lonestarmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Welcome to the world of 1stGen's. At one time I thought that Jardine was the only one left who built anything for a 1stGen, until a couple of years ago I found a set of MAC's NOS listed on Ebay, and did some detective work. Mac's retail price was a hundred bucks less than Jardine's, so I went ahead and ordered a set... direct. I liked what I received and thought I'd share with the rest of the members and try a group buy. The first group buy was great!! Mainly because they had stock. Number two took a while longer because #1 cleaned them out ,and they had to build to order... but it still wasn't that bad. This third buy sucks!! It's been nine months since the order went in, and I've heard more BS and blatant lies than anyone has a right to be subjected to. They must be having a good laugh thinking I believe them... I took it because I just didn't want to burn any bridges, and short change anyone who had pre-paid. Believe me, when this buy is over, it's over. And to be real honest, I rellay don't think MAC is too long for this world. I've been involved in manufacturing and sales repping for over 45 years, and when it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, ya gotta duck. MAC is on the verge of going belly up. Jardine has dropped 1stGen mufflers of their website, and I suspect that they sold what stock they had left to the guy who sold them on Ebay toward the end of last year. Unless someone picks up the torch to supply muffler sets for the 1stGen we're going to be SOL.... -
I noticed that Jardine doesn't list the mufflers for the 1stGens on their website any longer....

Definately a dandy, but.... at $4,500 it's getting a bit close to what a clean '99RSV will bring in this economy... Two years ago is would have brought more than the 4.5... IMHO

MAC muffler fit and finish
Condor replied to lonestarmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If anyone has been holding off to install their MAC's and run into a fit problem, don't grind on them. It voids the warantee. I got stone walled by MAC on JB's fit problem due to the grinding. Contact me first. My first set on the '83 fit perfectly, but the second set on the '91 took a little 'relieving' to make them fit right. Not nearly as much as JB experienced, but still had to. Also keep in mind that MAC is the only manufacturer that is making aftermarket exhausts for the 1stGens. Jardine has dropped them from their line. -
LOL... You have a lot more than I have in mine...

Thanks for the feedback Squeeze. Now I'm really confused... Oh well, sometimes you roll the dice and take your chances... The washer I got with the final measures in mm 18.5ID, 34.5OD, and 4.5 thickness. I don't know if it means anything or not, but there are a couple of numbers etched into the neck, and it looks as if the first one has been scratched out. I took a couple of pics and they are posted below. I'll try and do a ratio count a little later on, and see what I come up with.

130 Avon tire question
Condor replied to 1BigDog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I wonder if, when you cleaned the rim with Scotch Brite, that you created micro scratches in the bead seat wall and they are what's causing the leaks. Like Squid said, there's a clear coat on the seat and if it's damaged the surface will be too porous to seat properly?? Ride-on will stay mainly on the tread area and not get up on the sidewalls. If it was up there you may be putting more RO in the tire then's needed. -
Another carb question
Condor replied to algie1100's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This is a dumb question, but couldn't you, after draining the bowl, inject pure Sea-Foam up into the bowl and let it sit for a while, and then drain it out??? Maybe a more potent way of freeing up the float valve if that's the problem... -
Squeeze, Is there any way to visually identify an early V-Max final? I picked up one off Ebay a while back for the '91 and the seller included a washer he said would be needed when installing. I can take a pic of the washer, and put a mic on it if anyone wants???

I just bought a set from Southwest Moto . I understand they just changed ownership but it's biz as usual. Buy two and shipping is free. You might want to compare prices for the second gens. The last set I bought was 3 years ago, and if memory serves me right it was about $25 bucks more this time around.

I was looking at the Audiovox for my '83, but ended up finding and installing a NEP throttle lock. Takes about 5 minutes to install. From what I've read the Audio would do a great job. The only thing I find troublesome with the NEP is when running with 2ndGens I tend to run over the top of them on the downhills, and fall back on the up's due to their constant adjusting of the throttle to maintain speed. Get's frustrating after a while. When riding by myself it's great....
