  1. DANG!! You beat me to it.....
  2. Don't get too cerebral about what you read in the mag's. There are quite a few of us who ride 1stGens that have expressed the same results. Conversely the only way you're going to get good gas mileage at high speed with with a strong tailwind. What I wrote is hands on experience, not something a magazine writer has come up with in a short period of time reading a press release to meet some dead line. Take your bike out and run a few tanks thru it at 75mph+ in fifth, and then go ride in some twisties for a few tanks. Don't mix the styles up. Let us know what you've experienced.
  3. On the gas milage... The faster you go in 5th gear the more the bike acts like a horse eatin' oats. While slabbin' it at 75mph I'm lucky to get 37-38 mpg, but take the bike on a ride in the mountain twisties, keeping it between 2nd and 3rd gears, and hardly ever going into 4th I'll get 50mpg. 5th gear and wind resistence are the enemy.....
  4. Isn't there a Voyager Owners website you could post it on? Looks really nice, but I think the only one into Voyagers is Lowell on this site.
  5. My search came back zilch. As far as I know I'm the only 'Jack' Chalais in the world. I have a few shirttails, including a brother with the last surname, but the combination is unique... HEY!! I'm a one'r!!
  6. Someone send Bob a Guardian Bell..........
  7. If I remember correctly there's a spring and ball that ride in the detents of the hinge. I took mine apart and just gave them the pieces when I had mine buffed out. Oops, didn't realize they were Marklands. Disregard previous statement.
  8. Have you thought about a hitch extension.....and leave the tailgate on??
  9. The chrome end caps are held on by a philips head screw on the inside of the grip...
  10. I haven't noticed anything other than the compressor pumping when adjusting pressure. Attached is a flow chart for the E1 Error code. This might help. You might also think about going in and resoldering the board. Sometimes those cold solder joints don't take the first time around.
  11. I've never had to mess with one...or seen one for that matter, but from the schematics it looks like it's connected to the rear shock. I guess there's a 'T' on the shock, and the discharge is after the 'T'?? The E1 mostly deals with poor connections to the discharge, and I've never read on this board where a D-valve has failed, but I guess there's always a first??

    2ndGens will give ya warts.............
  13. The carbs on my '83 are fine, but she's always been cantankerous when starting cold. Put the choke full on and you'll kill a poor battery before it'll fire. The next time you try starting cold put the choke on full, and then while turning it over slowly reduce the choke. It should fire about half way off. Once it fires increase the choke quickly to full to keep 'er running. The R's will slowly build as she warms up. Another approach is only give her a small amount of choke to begin with, and then when she kicks add choke at warp speed. There are several others on this board who have to use the same start proceedure with their '83's.
  14. Check out your cruise vacume pump and look for leaks in the vacume lines.
  15. Ditto......
  16. I hate it when it's not me that can gloat.... BUY!!!!!!! Congrats on the new2U scoot.
  17. I wish I had the room to get a bike...or maybe two in there, but with 6 bikes I'm just going to have to settle being bike cover poor...
  18. A lot of MKI owners seem to have a problem with the stopping power of the brakes on a '83. Personally I find them OK. Not 'lock'm'up' power, but they've never let me down...even in a few oh-crap panic stops. When all three calipers are grabbing you'll stop pretty quick, and not lock 'm up. Personally I think locking up the brakes is a not good.
  19. YEP, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!! Have to go in a cook breakfast now....
  20. Not to defend Corbin, but what exactly was the problem that the saddle wasn't built right, and how did you ship the saddle back that it ran you $60 bucks?? Last year on our way down to San Luis Obispo a group of us toured the factory, and I saw a company that was very attentive to the customers needs. The only thing they were adamant about was the stiffness of their seat, and from what I have read they've relented a bit on that too... Being stonewalled and told to buy another seat after not having the seat problem corrected the first time just doesn't compute. Need more data....
  21. An option would be to buy one of the PiggyBacker trailers, and then sell it when it's time to leave. The trailers are fairly cheap..$700, have a good sized payload, and a 3 month old PB would sell fast at $400. Net result would be a out of pocket of around $300. MOF Harbor Frieght is selling the same style trailer for a little over $400. TRAILER Not as many frills, but what the heck.....
  22. Dang!! I'm jealous... Look at all that space just itching to be filled....
  23. I agree about the shake. From what I've read they are worse than the mechanical bull at Gilley's in Ft Worth TX at idle, but those same complainers praised the smoothness once the R's rose. They probably will be a collectable... in about 30 years, but I'll be long gone by then. There's a very fervant EH owners support group on the web, much like our's here. Registery and all. Just smaller. I see them listed on Ebay, and from what I can gather the buyers are bidding them up to 5 grand and the owners want 8. Sound familiar... I just thought it would be cool to play with. I just don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater....
  24. The two big issues were the tranny and engine heat. A must is to rebush the trans and add an oil cooler. Both have been done...
  25. No but I did take some pics and send them to a cluttered garage contest once. Didn't win...can't understand why not???
