Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No set number needed, just however many send payments before closing it off on the 31st. -
Heavy SeaFoam will cause the plugs to foul..... OR...go find a tunnel and turn your ignition off and then back on again while going thru it..... That should clear things up......

Charcoal canister
Condor replied to fzr400sbk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think?? That maybe the hose for your vacuum advance, and on the '83 it comes off the #2 carb. The bib is located above the butter fly between #2 and #4. The 83's are the only 'pre-butterfly/throttle body' advance, and therefore the booster and the TCI are set up differently then the later models which are manafold vacuum. -

BUMP....... -
Yesterday, and they had a consigned 2006 xv1900 Stradoliner sitting on the floor with tons of add-on$. What a beast...., but I like it. I think the owner had to have been smoking something when he...or she?... congered up the asking price of $18,500. Did a little research on them and the price was way over the market. Does anybody own one, or have ridden one maybe?? With 1900 cc's I wonder what the MPG would be??

Sounds like maybe a plug is breaking down at high R's.

Sounds like your going to have a great trip. On the first day out I'd suggest taking the 85 cut-off I-10 down to I-8 at Gila Bend, and then head west and join up with I-10 again at Casa Grande. That by-passes all that Pheonix traffic. There's also a Motel 6 where 8 and 10 join back up and the resturant out front serves the best fish'n'chips I've ever had. BY-PASS

Progressive Springs
Condor replied to Scooter's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Progressives only have one spring for the 1stGens, but Racetech lists several different springs weights. I think there's one or two other suspension sites that also make springs to match the weight of the rider??? -
'83 Venture Issue.

Here's a write up about the way I've found most successful when bleading your clutch. One of these days I'm gonna have to take some pics. REVERSE BLEEDING Every one seems to have their own idea of how to get the clutch bled. The air is a PITA to get out of the clutch lines and slave due to it's design. With the master so much higher than the slave the air bubles willl always want to rise to the master. Because you can't apply compression like you can in a brake system you end up forcing a little fluid in the lines and the bubbles go down toward the slave. By the time you're able to pump again the air has started to rise again. It's a never ending cycle. The air will continue to rise and stay suspended in the lines. You can't really speed up the pumping process. Pump a little in and by the time you reload for another shot of fluid the bubbles are back where they were before. It's tough to get them out of the system. Here's my solution, takes about 15 minutes, and it works every time. Basically it's forcing the DOT 3 or 4 up the clutch lines from the bleeder valve on the slave, thru the slave, and upto the reserve. Since air will naturally rise in the lines, it's almost impossible to force the air down thru the lines, thru the slave, and out the bleeder valve. There are several different ways to accomplish reverse bleeding, but they all do the same thing. i.e. force the fluid from the bleeder valve up into the reserve. With a standard OEM valve you can just loosen it, attach a clear plastic tube for a visual, and use what ever method you can conger up as an injection tool... Everyone seems to have their own method for this. I personally use a rubber ear bulb, but since I have a speed bleeder installed I have to remove it. With the top of the master reserve removed start forcing fluid into the lines, being carefull not to force so much in that it overflows the reserve bowl. You can actually hear the air bubble out. It won't take long, but once no more air can be heard, lock down the bleeder valve and you're good to go. Make sure that the reserve isn't over full when you button things up. -
It's been a millinium since I drove over that stretch of road. Never on a bike... didn't own one..., but in recent history, back before it closed due to slides, the reports of accidents were quite frequent. With a couple of billion crotch-rockets living in close vacinity it was 'use at your own risk'. I wonder, now that it's open again, when the carnage will begin??

Nice pics Mike. Just a preview of what we'll get into at Cody in September.

Thanks for the input. The reason I mentiioned Algy Oil is that I'd heard the yield amounts were way beyond an acre of corn used to produce Ethanol. But.... I could have been wrong so I did a search and found this. Click on the title...I can't get rid of the frame... Grrr!! Although a zip-loc will do the trick for waterproofing, the biggest problem you'll run into is finding something that you can read in direct sunlight without a screen cover. There are only a few LCD screens that won't wash out when the sun hits them, and that's just about all day long on a motorcycle. And something that has a nighttime mode. Otherwise the brightness of the screen will really cut down on your night time vision. I have a couple of 'El Cheepos'. The oldest's programing is very good, and the second has text to speach and seems a little better when it comes to sunlight, but the thing doesn't show your current speed...yet has a speedlimit warning feature... Grrr!! One of these days I'll find a Zumo 550 cheep....

here's a carb question for you...?
Condor replied to jasonm.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just curious Jason. I run your mod on the '83 and find it has a little more lope at idle...which I kinda like..., but I really don't notice any difference in performance or gas milage between stock and the mod. I ran the mod from Sacramento to Ft Collins[1039 miles] and got 38 mpg. Took it off before the trip home[1200 miles] and it still got 38mpg. Now here's the question. Have or has anyone connected the vacumes between 2 and 4, and 1 and 3, and if so, what was the result??? -
And I read in this mornings enews that one local company is applying for bankruptcy protection. Probably going to ask for some sort of economic $timulU$ bailout before actually filing. That way they can live off the cuff on our money. I think this whole thing will end up as bad as the farm bank when the feds payed farmers not to grow a crop..... So much for 'green' technology... I wonder what ever happened to Algy Oil??

I'd check out Ebay. There are a ton of leather manufactures. Just look for something that isn't a patched quilt construction. My First Manufacturing weighs a ton and comes with a zip out liner as well as an interior liner. I think it might be buffalo hide. All I know is if I ever go down in a slide it's going to take forever to wear thru it.

With that kind of loss you have to be smelling gas fumes or seeing some evidence of leakage somewhere. If you're not you may have other problems...
