  1. My Bad.... I should double check all long posts before commenting. Disregard my previous post...
  2. I'm with Don on this one. $3700Cd is a lot of money for any '83. One in good clean condition with the second gear fixed will bring $1800-$2000US. But after talking to Brian.. Friesman.. about what 1stGen-VR's are bringing in Canada, I'm shocked!!
  3. It might work. Don would know for sure... but if it does you'll be getting notices that are directed to your home computor at work. Goes both ways.
  4. Like Mike stated I've had a couple of diaphragm assemblies come out in pieces when inspecting. Not sure why it would happen, but it did. The brass 'keeper' that slides inside the plastic and holds the two plastic washers together over time seems to loose it's grip. Maybe poor assemble of the plastic slide by what ever method they used. I had a broken slide once that took an act of God to pull the keeper out... so don't try it... When the assembly is put together, whatever they use is effective. I've thought about roughing up the inside of the slider and the brass keeper and using Super Glue maybe to re-install the keeper as a fix?? My 2Cents....
  5. It could also be that the rear line is plugged and not allowing expanded fluids to retun upstream to the reserve. I might also add that there isn't a sight glass on the L.front/rear reserve. He might be mistakenly looking at the right front and not addressing the problem.
  6. What brand rings did you pick up. I use Kuryakyn 1" clamps and the highways are rock solid. You sure you didn't buy 1 1/8"?? I also got away from the early style clamps that took two screws and a plate to piece them together. The newer style is made with a hinge. They both did the job, but the newer ones are easier to R&R.
  7. I have several trailers that are capable of hauling a bike, but I find that it's better to have one that can pull double duty. Like hauling trash, moving furniture, etc. Hauling the bike comes second. Right now I have a 5x10 single axel utility with 4' sidewalls and ramp gate that's used more for hauling stuff, than hauling the bike. The side walls let me pile a bunch of stuff in it without having to batten everything down. I'm in it $750. My first chock was built out of 2x4's and screwed to the floor. Worked pretty good, but recently I bought one of those Harbor Frieght HD chocks, because the price was right..$19 bucks, just haven't installed it yet. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96349
  8. Why lock the forks......:stirthepot:
  9. I feel for ya Bro. Sounds kinda like we're about the same age. Nothing worse than having one of you wheels start to go bad.... Harder and harder trying to figure out a good way to get on the scoot. Right now it's the old grab the pants cuff and lift... Good thing Harbor Frieght's near by. I can replace all the tools I misplace for cheap....
  10. Isn't that kinda like the pot calling the owl black.....:rotf:
  11. I like Paypal. I even use it in my business for credit card payments. It's secure and convienent. About 5 months ago I took a payment for an item from Dubai for $8 grand. Painless and in my checking account in a nano-sec. Plus they handled the money conversion. They also handle the Canadian Dollar when VR members up north get in on a group buy. Heck, two braces went to Sweden in the last group buy. Paid via Paypal. So I don't really care if Ebay owns it, somebody has to... Just as long as it works..., and so far... so good...
  12. I'm with you Eck. My bod is falling apart and 600 mile days don't sound like much fun any longer. I'm seriously thinking about trailering the scoot up to my daughter's in Idaho and then riding the last 300+ miles to Cody from there. These younger guys who are bad mouthing trailers, and talk macho.....just wait.
  13. I don't think you'll do much better on Ebay. Lately it's a buyers market, and that's going to keep the bidding down. When I do a 'Yamaha Venture -wave -cover -lighting' search I'm getting a return of over 1000 items. It's almost like Alice's Resturant.... And the Star 2ndGens items are producing most of the bidding activity. 1stGen items go begging unless it's rare, plastic or chrome. Take a look at what whole non-reserve Ventures are bid up to. There are some real bargains on Ebay.... Those auctions with reserves are wasting their time even listing them.
  14. Right on Tim.. Yep, it helps with the little things. I think every 1stGen should have one installed....(shameless plug)...
  15. :thumbsup2:
  16. Yep, that was speedy... Sometimes we win a few. Good luck pluggin' the leak....
  17. Check the mute switch to see if it hasn't been bumped accidently. Maybe???
  18. I've been running Avon Venoms and really like the handling, but..... I think I'm going to try a set of Michelin Commanders the next time around. I'm getting tired of dealing with sidewall cracks.
  19. What about a set of those little round blind spot stick on mirrors. Would that help?? I've seen some really small ones on Venture mirrors, but haven't found a source. But then again I haven't been looking very hard either...
  20. Rick, I sent you an email asking for your mailing address using the email address in the paypal notice. There wasn't a shipping in the paypal notice, and I didn't realize it until after I started printing up the labels. Never got a response, and then I just plain forgot to follow up. Guess I should have PM'd you?? PM me your shipping address, and I get it right out. Most of the others have already received theirs. Only takes 3 days for the US. Sorry about the oversight. -Jack
  21. Hi Art, The fork is for the 1stGen bikes only. Welcome to the board....
  22. OK, I knew it lubed something...., and without it a water pump will start springing a leak I'll definately keep that in mind... 4 years to go!!
  23. Uh..... Geeze, I thought I said it was going to have a V4. And I thought we were brain storming about what a new Venture might look like??? My bad....
  24. I picked up an older Coveralls that I thought was a full cover, but when I pulled it out of the bag to store the scoot overnight on VWIV in San Luis Obispo it turned out to be a half cover. Got it on the '83 and you could have played a tune on it it was so tight. The next morning it rained for about an hour... whoda thunk... and the bike stayed nice and dry. Hardley takes up any room in the saddle bag...
  25. I'm not absolutely sure Lowell, but I think that adjuster on the splitter is for the radio??? The CB antena will need to be tuned by itself. I've seen some CB ants. that are preadjusted but the wire lead is too long for a bike. Maybe the CB antena set up from a Venture will work without messin' with the antena length???
