I just might do that. My brother lives in Kalispell. Did the Sun Road a few years ago with the family.

Hi's BBQ in Yoakum Tx....

Depends on the circumstances but I've thought about heading up into Montana, and over to the Washington coast before heading south back to the barn.

I wouldn't keep that away from traveling around semi's. The chance of being hit by lightening is probably greater than experiencing something like that. Over the years I've put on millions of miles alongside big rigs, while on the road as a sales rep, for various companies. In all that time I've had just one truck blow a tire while I was next to it, and nothing came of it. So to have one blow and then take out a window is rare indeed... We can't be paranoid while riding. Cautious yes, aware yes, but not paranoid. Otherwise the enjoyment of riding disappears, and we might as well not fire the scoot up.

Ummm??? I thought that if water were heavier than gas it would sink to the bottom of the tank?? That's why tanks rust out... And since the pickup is on the bottom of the tank, any water at all will make a mess of things. Maybe the gas was floating on top of the water?? Which would make for a LOT of water...

There isn't a rebuild kit available for the carbs. For the most part folks just replace the diaphragms and clean the 'H' out of the jets with a good carb cleaner or Sea Foam. If your brother didn't get the results he was looking for it was probably due to plugged jets, but check the phrams anyway. I wouldn't go thru a complete dismantle. Draining the old fuel out of the tank and replacing the fuel filter should also be done. After the cleaning a carb sync is mandatory.... Good luck.

Fork brace group buy....
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yours will be fine. They should fit snug. For anyone in the future the upper tube pinch bolts may need to be loosened as well. When I mounted the brace on my '91 it kinda schloooped right on, but the '83 was tight. Each bike seems to be a little different in tollerance. Here's a write up that Squeeze submitted the last go around that pretty much explains it. -
First gens have a 5.3 gallon tank. Any more than that and the station is pouring a short gallon, and you're getting screwed. Gas volume will expand when it gets hot out of the pump and will take less to fill'r up. I generally run 150 miles, and start looking for a station. Not because I need gas... I have to pee.....

The '93 I picked up in AZ had stickers from everywhere all over the windshield. Once I got it back home I took the windshield and License plate off and sent them back to the P.O. as he wanted it as a keepsake. The windshield was toast anyway.... I do put equipment stickers on the bike...on the underside of the trunk lid.

Oil sight glass dirty
Condor replied to Racer-X's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
When I first bought the '83 the site glass was pretty dark...even after changing the oil. Now after periodic oil changes and 7-8,000 miles it's nice a clean. I thought about coming in from the back side to clean it. Forget it. The Sea Foam suggestion is also a good one. -
I understand what you're saying, and very well I might add, but now lets talk about a trailer box, not a theoritical beam. You're not going to load 100% of the weight at the wheel end of the box and let the remainder of the box space stand empty. You're going to utilize the entire volumn of the box. Even if you load the heavy items to the 'back of the bus'... sorry had to say that..:rotf:it will not all pack into a small confined area. In practice it will spread over 2 to 3 feet with the remainder of the lighter items distributed forward. In practice everything stowed will increase the weight on the hitch end. Perhaps not on a 50/50 basis, but enough that it will make tongue weight significantly greater than a trailer with the wheel/axle in the center of the load. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the results will be after the trailer is finally built.

MKI & MKII anti-dive

Yeah that^ My bad. Just counted one side.... That's what I get for spending half the night in emergency with my wife..... -
$7200 is way below the going price for a '99 V Interstate. Especially 'out the door'. The minimum is $8000++. So selling the bike at anything close to what he quoted you would have been a big mistake on the salesman's part. I'm sure the owner reamed the guy out enough that he conviently forgot everything he said. That's another reason why, when shopping for a big purchase, that you have the money or financing already taken care of before even thinking about asking, or negotiating. It would have been nice to slap him across the face with a check for $7200 and took it home.

MKI & MKII anti-dive
Condor replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The 86-93 are ..edited.. four piston rear calipers, but since the rear brakes only contribute 20-30% of the total stopping power I wouldn't worry about doing the conversion. The gain wouldn't be worth it. You're right, there is a bolt pattern difference between the forks. 8?mm on the MkI and 100mm on the MkII. So to change out the calipers the forks will also need to be changed. -

Larger pad surface too. -
The trailer actually does have a fulcrum, but the mass is all on one side.. A tire or tires at the center point form the fulcrum. Shift the axle toward one end or the other and the applied downward force will shift from one end to the other, either creating lift or mass weight. The weight on either side or an axel will cancel the other out except for differences in those weights. Move the axle completely to one end of the trailer and all the weight will shift to one side of the fulcrum and become a total combined mass. The total weight will apply downward force and be split between the two suspending fulcrum ends. Geeze did I say that...

1st Gen Fork Brace
Condor replied to 84xj1100's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think the biggest improvement is handling in the curves. With both forks compressing as one holding an arc is greatly improved. On the straights you probably won't notice much difference between the OEM and the aftermarket...until you hit a pot hole... A brace, progressives, and Avons are a great combination... -

I think the main reason folks are doing the swap is for the newer braking, not the AD's. From what Bongobob posted the AD's are interchangeble, so there's no need to swap out the front forks. -
Forgot your gremlin bell Huh??? Glad you're OK...
