What is this sound? 1999 RSV
Condor replied to arnesbay's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A 'Whomp' is pretty generic. Could even be a seperated cap on the front tire?? Engine noises are usually rattle, clank, ping, knock, etc. -
Does all 1st gen bikes have a whine?
Condor replied to coltrain's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My '83 whines at around 3000rpm. I think it's kinda cool. Sounds like a turbo winding up. But my 91 doesn't. Gear cut?? Who know's?? Beside I don't even notice it after riding a while. Then again I don't hear my obnoxious Grandfather Clock chime any longer either... It's a left brain thing..... -
I've swapped them around with no problem. Although, I tend to put the MkI's on the MkII due to the I's having adjustable pegs. The MkII's are fixed.

Out of curiousity I searched the web for some info on these trippers and found this post to a board that I found interesting. Some of the responses were also.... MAGNETS I saved the link to the supplier in the post. I might just give a couple of these things a try. The material they use seems to be the most powerful according tho another 'primer' site. Besides the price is right....

Front fork rebuild time
Condor replied to Sylvester's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think that's something you should be calling Race-Tech about. It may be nothing more than changing the oil. -

Buddy Rich is in San Antonio and I know he's experienced with rear shocks.... I called Bob and left him Buddy's #. -
I saved it to favorites too. Gotta check to see if they will work on the saddles of a 1stGen???

What do ya squirt in here.....?
Condor replied to Smitty161's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It's a joke. A design engineer at Yamaha decided to put it there to confuse people. He doesn't work there anymore...... -
I wasn't having much luck at tripping the sensor with the '83. So while kicking tires at our local Beemer Shop with HDTR and BuddyRich I got the hard sell from the service mgr on one of those magnets. $14 bucks so said what the 'h' and bought it. Zip tied it to the center stand, and now I rarely hang up on a left turn. Some of the older side street LH turns don't have the oval groove sensor yet and you can wait forever.... I just run them. I think the DMV code says you can after 3 cycles. After one I say screw it, and go.....

Old converted boat trailers have a tendency to do that. Water launches can really mess up the bearings and spindles..... don't ask me how I know that...... Glad you're OK, and the new2U bike made it... it coulda been worse.. See how lucky you are.....

Mines not as long, and it's never been a problem, even in my BBall days, but on an all day bike rides my boot wears a hole in the top of the joint.... then the SOB HURTS!!!!!!!! I've been putting DrScholls Moleskin on it and it seems to be working. Goods luck on the toe reduction....

Work bench for 1st gen
Condor replied to jasonm.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
COOL!!! In my case I'd rig those side boards into some type of picnic bench seating with space enough for the legs in order to sit while working. I wouldn't have to be dragging a stool all over the place. -
Fork brace group buy....
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No Jim, this replaces the OEM brace which is pretty flimsy. Makes the forks compress together. Big handling improvement in the twisties, on rough roads, and hard braking. It should be a must mod on every 1stGen out there. -
7 wide if you're planing on hauling 2 ventures. A V-Nosed 14 is actuall a reg 12 with a V tacked on the front end. V nosed trailers look cool, but they don't have the room that a regular enclosed of the same length has, so always go 2 foot longer in a V to get the floor space.

Throttle - Auto Close
Condor replied to utadventure's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try lubing everything you can see with DeepCreep.. same folks that make SeaFoam.... Even the carb linkage, choke connections, and cables. Keep working the throttle and choke while you're doing it. Things will get easier as you go, and the throttle will start to return all by itself.... -
Talk about stage presents..... Ya thank!!!!!

Dead in the water
Condor replied to Bigfoot's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Like so many others, I bet it's the ignition switch.... If it ends up being a blown fuse it'll pro'bly take a few blown ones before locating the problem that's causing them to pop.... Isn't there a by-pass that'll work to see if it is actually the switch??? -
Has anyone used
Condor replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Herb, I used Royal Purple 'Purple Ice', and seems to work. Bought it at a NAPA store for around $10 bucks. Pro'bly the same properties as Engine Ice... Came in a small 8oz bottle and I added it to the coolant mix when flushing the '83. It doesn't take much. Just looked at the bottle and it's still pretty full. If I remember the instructions call for a couple of cap fulls per gallon, which is about what our motors take.- 4 replies

Sync'd your carbs lately?

Hmmm?? I guess I don't know tools?? But I did pick up a set of metric combo's for about $16 bucks from HF that are every bit as good, at half the price, of just one of my Snap On's...

I don't use a torque wrench on most of the smaller fasteners, but when torqueing axels, clutch baskets, etc. I have an old fashioned bar torque wrench. Works every time. Correctly. I just don't trust those 'clickers'.....

There's another circut that keeps the motor from starting only in neutral. The bike should start in neutral with the sidestand down. The neutral indicator switch might be loose???

I'm sure it could be a bunch of things, but what comes to mind with the backfiring is timing, and timing is controlled by the TCI. Could it have gotten wet from dew sitting over night??
