  1. Try lubing everything you can see with DeepCreep.. same folks that make SeaFoam.... Even the carb linkage, choke connections, and cables. Keep working the throttle and choke while you're doing it. Things will get easier as you go, and the throttle will start to return all by itself....

Talk about stage presents..... Ya thank!!!!!
  3. Like so many others, I bet it's the ignition switch.... If it ends up being a blown fuse it'll pro'bly take a few blown ones before locating the problem that's causing them to pop.... Isn't there a by-pass that'll work to see if it is actually the switch???
  4. Herb, I used Royal Purple 'Purple Ice', and seems to work. Bought it at a NAPA store for around $10 bucks. Pro'bly the same properties as Engine Ice... Came in a small 8oz bottle and I added it to the coolant mix when flushing the '83. It doesn't take much. Just looked at the bottle and it's still pretty full. If I remember the instructions call for a couple of cap fulls per gallon, which is about what our motors take.
  5. Sync'd your carbs lately?
  6. Hmmm?? I guess I don't know tools?? But I did pick up a set of metric combo's for about $16 bucks from HF that are every bit as good, at half the price, of just one of my Snap On's...
  7. I don't use a torque wrench on most of the smaller fasteners, but when torqueing axels, clutch baskets, etc. I have an old fashioned bar torque wrench. Works every time. Correctly. I just don't trust those 'clickers'.....
  8. There's another circut that keeps the motor from starting only in neutral. The bike should start in neutral with the sidestand down. The neutral indicator switch might be loose???
  9. I'm sure it could be a bunch of things, but what comes to mind with the backfiring is timing, and timing is controlled by the TCI. Could it have gotten wet from dew sitting over night??
  10. First time it's ever happened to me. Now I know...
  11. Nice looking '85. But with that 2ndGear problem it's going to be a hard sell. Value somewhere between 1200 to 1400 bucks.
  12. Why am I having to wait for the video to convert??? And to what?? But.... Way too cool once it did...
  13. Man, Youse guys are a tough crowd to play to.....
  14. If the dealer can't get them for cheep he's not going to waste his time, and right now the market is soft on any type collectable . As for Ebay you can state a no return policy in your item discription. All sales final, and take paypal only. Only list 5 or 6 items per week. It get's confusing keeping track of any more. I don't know how some of those sellers do it?? Paypal does have a complaint policy, but if the item is packed very well, and if it arrives unbroken, the seller doesn't have much recourse.
  15. Yeah, I'd like to hear what's on their itinerary, if anything, when they roll through Sacramento?? Love to look at those old military jeeps. Used to run around in a '53 way back in my 20's... Actually after looking at their planed stops it looks like the closest they'll get to Sac is Placerville, and then on to Stockton and finally to SF.
  16. Finaly closed at $66.00 total... The buyer could have gotten it here for $60.... Wadda deal.... He'd a saved half the yearly membership fee...
  17. I found this on Ebay. FORK BRACE It'll be closing soon, and it's already more than..OK, not by much ...so far... our group buy brace. See what a great deal you guys are getting by belonging to VR.org....
  18. Like I said it really yanked on my emotions. It already had the 240 rear. It was purddy....
  19. Replace the crush washer. If you don't have one, it should have one. If you do, then it needs to be replaced. You might try a Honda dealer for the washer. They seem to have a better price on them. Do NOT over torque the plug. You could strip out the threads which are aluminum. You might also have too much gear oil in the final??
  20. Any milage less than 17,000 doesn't make up for a $3,000+ difference. I went and really scrutinized the Ebay bike. It looked new in every respect..... and when the smoke cleared the high bid stayed at $7,100. The same as when I ran acrossed it. However... the end result was, I didn't bid on it. Here's my final rational. The bike was being sold by a dealer and with taxes and registration the final out the door was going to be pushing $8,000, and this was for a bike that was.. outside of the FI and chrome... pretty bare bones in design. For that kind of money I could find a private party 2000-2003 RSV with not that many more miles. I gotta admit though that puppy really tugged on my emotions. The one thing I liked about it was it sat big. Much bigger than an RSV, and in my particular case I like big things. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  21. 12.5VDC is not a fully charged battery. Charge it and then see what happens.
  22. Hmmm... Graphite lube??? That must be it..
  23. So what you're saying Squeeze, is that it's electrically powered?? I thought it would be more of a fixed magnet trigger, and really not a coil at all, but then again I've never had one in the palm of my hand. I have installed tach sensors that read pulses off flywheel teeth, and that's all they are. A magnet that creates a variable pulse that's read by the tach processor. I guess I'll keep my mouth shut until I actually capture one, and can tear it apart.
  24. With a 35" inseam I don't have any trouble flat footing even a 1stGen....
  25. So I'm wondering. The guy that bought your old '99. What's he doing if you've been picking up the yearly registration fees?? He must not be getting the annual bill, and running around with expired tags??? Around here the annual bill will stop once the title has been changed over to the new owner...
