  1. and find it a very cool side car set up. http://www.odditycentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/motorcycle-car.jpg
  2. I worked for a farm supply back then. It was amazing how many cow magnets I sold to the dealers.... :rotf:
  3. Well I think the leak has a cork in it. After tightening down the gear indicator sender, and afterwards it leaking so much it looked like a mosquito abatement control truck, the culprit seemed to be the sender. So Brian sent down the cut-away middle gear cover, and I bought another sender off Ebay for a couple of bucks. Glad I did. Everyone kept posting about an 'O' ring on the back side of the sender plate. I got the impression the 'O' ring layed flat against the block between the plastic plate. It doesn't. The plate actually has a raised portion that the ring fit's around and is inserted into a recess in the block. Anyway, to make a long story a bit longer, Kurt got in there and changed out the ring and wa-la, no more leak... or smoke. The bike still marks it's spot from another very slight drip up front, but I can live with that. Time to start tweeking things in time for Cody.
  4. Looks like nothing more than a capacitor that expands CCa's of the battery. Will it improve gas milage, and increase power? It might if the battery being used is old and marginal, but with the advent of high CCa AGM's I doubt it would do much good.
  5. Now ya know why I didn't wave my hand in the air when this thing started... I'm 'group buyed' out.... Gotta go have a beer and recover... You are doing a great job.... You've been paypal'd
  6. Dan are you still using danob11@comcast.net for your paypal address??
  7. 86-93's headlight assemblies and housings are one style. 83-85's are another. Windshields are all the same....
  8. The brake and clutch masters are interchangeable from 83-93. Lots of them show up on Ebay. If you need to deal with the clutch slave you'd best go out and buy a new one from one of our supporting vendors. The difference in price isn't all that much for new vs. a rebuild kit. Ebay for the headlight housing and windshield too. I might also add that there is a section in the classifieds for members to post wanted ads. This thread has gone way beyond the initial post.
  9. E1 is basically a connector problem. Clean and check the contacts.
  10. I'd go ahead and paint it, number 3 or not. I don't see the MM's becoming a true collectors bike for a very long time, and even then you'd probably do better putting your money into a better performing investment. Besides, a black MM would really be a rarity in about 50 years. Just think you can mess with everyone's mind... BTW the black with a slight tint of blue metal flake actually exists and is a '91VR color....
  11. Don't get the cart before the horse Dan. Get a final price figured out, and then start collecting the money... and then place the order. I'm still good for 2 ea. Let me know and I'll Paypal....
  12. They sound pretty good too Herb.
  13. $295 total to your front door via UPS ground. Funds via Paypal to jchalais@cast-aways.com. Let me know if you're interested.
  14. Yep. Same box. It falls under International Priority. When you make up a label there is a 'country' box at the top on the frame. On something this small the requirements for customs forms are by-passed. If you pay online via CC they discount the total by about $.30 cents, and delivery conformation is free. Piece of cake..!!!!
  15. Ebay!!! Can't believe I forgot about Ebay....
  16. Dan, you can use the same small flat rate box for Canadian mailings. Order the free boxes online in 25 box packs. When you're figuring paypal pricing don't forget to add $1.50 to the total price for paypal fees. If you pay and print labels online it works out to a little less than $5 bucks for US, and $10 bucks Canadian.
  17. Depends on my riding conditiions. I've riden 100 miles up in the Sierra twisties and only taken on 2 gallons. I've riden 150 miles out on the slab and take on 3.5 to 3.8 gallons. 'Bout 38mpg.
  18. That happens. If you compressed the pistons before bleeding it takes a while before the caliper gets 'pumped up' again. Bleed the front brake until you get pedal, and then rebleed the rear caliper and pump the 'H' out of the pedal. Hopefully you'll get pedal again. Once you do get pedal, bleed the lines again. The other possibility is the portioning valve is plugged. It doesn't take much crud to keep fluid from getting to the back caliper. Gotta love those speed bleeders.... Gotta remember to read all posts 3 times before offering advice....
  19. My '83 had the bump-clunk when I first bought it. Installed progressives and the clunk disappeared. 25 y.o. OEM fork springs don't offer a lot of resistance.
  20. I don't have room for a soft bag with all the space in the saddle bag taken up with tools, cleaning supplies, spare fairing parts, tire patch kit and pump, and granola bars....
  21. Thanks for the tip Tim. Reading a GPS in direct sunlight is one of the biggest requirements if it's mounted on a bike. Otherwise using it is a PITA. Gonna have to look into this one. Where did you find it for the $60 bucks??
  22. I've been running an Avon Venom-X on the front of the '83 for the last 5000+ miles with an EII on the back. The back tire was about half worn when I bought the bike but the front needed changing. Anyway I've never experienced any squirliness with the combination. I recently just added an Avon on the rear and will keep in mind the reports of handling problems at high speed. The front tire I've had into the triple digits and the bike is as solid as a rock. The front also has a ton of rubber left on it.... and no chicken strips... The '91 is scheduled to get a new set of Venoms this week preparing it for Cody. That aught to be a good test of new/new.
  23. Not on this one.... Too clean..
  24. OK as promissed, here a pic of the fish. Looks kinda small, but remember the good lookin' OF standing behind it isn't exactly small....
