Poser?? Hey dude, I've trailered. You calling me a poser?? If you have to ride around sweating or freezing your a$$ off, and picking gnats out of your teeth to meet your definition of a 'true biker' so be it, but count me out. Endless miles of mostly the same scenery just to get to the photo-ops and you think that's fun?? Enjoyable?? I think it's boring as he!!... You want the wind in your face go sit in front of a fan... So just because a member wants to trailer in comfort, and ride when they get there, doesn't make them any less a rider, or a poser (sic). It makes them smart.... http://www.spaceg.com/multimedia/collection/motorcycles/bugs%20in%20teeth%201.jpg

New Clutch Installed - Now Creeping
Condor replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If I remember correctly when I did the '83 I ran into that problem too, or at least something along that line... Anyway something didn't look right so I took it apart and reassembled the way I 'thought' it should go together and it worked great. Think it had something to do with the nut being upside down?? One other thing you might check is with the pressure plate off pull on the lever to see how much movement you're getting on the rod. I rebuilt the master and replaced the slave with a new one as well. Good luck.... -
i need help and INPUT please

I guess they've jumped. the last time we talked about Marks collector it was in the $450 catagory and I thought that was on the high side.... -
Hey Rick, Thanks for posting the DIY info... Looking over the online catalog for Unifilter I ran across these which would probably just fit over the crank vent when getting rid of the vent hose. 3/4"x2"Dx4"H, and at $7.95 they ain't gonna break the bank. I think I might try one of their replacement filters instead of building one. Not that you didn't do a great job, but for the $15 buck savings I'll go the easy route. BTW in the FAQ section they suggest rejetting?? http://www.unifilter.com/online%20catalog/universal%20filters/socks_lg.jpg

Need your input.

I've thought of that too. If I can't find the leak at least the bike'll smell purdy.... I'm just trying to ioslate the possible areas that might cause the side stand..center stand curiousity...?? -
I had the same problem with brand-x pads I bought of Ebay. Had to grind them down to get them to fit. Now I only buy EBC-HH's. Most sellers want close to retail, but every once in a while you can find a buy. I just picked up a set of EBH 252HH pads for the R1 caliper for $19 bucks delivered. Ya just gotta be patient.

That's why they're 8-10 points...

That's food for thought Greg, but I can't see where any engine cover would come into play on a VR. If you were talking about one of the plastic side covers, they were all dry when I took them off. Thanks for the input. -
The vin number is also stamped on the neck tube of the frame. That's the one they check on a stolen bike. It better match. It also is something that needs to be checked when buying a used Venture. The vin is also stamped on the engine plate. By law here in California if the engine is replaced a form needs to be filed with the DMV... But nobody ever does it... It's not as easy 'washing' a frame as you think...

MOF I'd toss the caliper and pick up another one off Ebay. They're cheap enough..... MOF now that I think about it I just took a set off the '83 and I rebuilt the left side a couple of years ago. PM me if you're interested??....

Still 100 and...... 72% humidity.

OK, the saga of the '91 continues. Kurt replaced the 'O' ring behind the gear sensor and let the bike idle for around an hour. Then he took it for a ride and then let it sit. No oil smoke and no leaks. Rode it over to the house and let it sit on the side stand for the better part of an hour.... nothing. Cool!!! Put the bike away on the center stand and the next morning still nothing. Sync'd the carbs etc. Let it idle for a while and the next morning... on the center stand.. there's an oil puddle about the size of a 50 cent piece under the bike by the left center stand pad.. Never started it again and while I'm gone to Cody the patch grew to the about 6" across with fresh drips. All by the left pad of the center stand. Here's what I'm looking for. Can anyone think of a reason that would cause a bike to leak oil while it's on the center, but not while it's over on the side stand?? And where in the engine would the oil be deep enough to leak on the horizontal and not on the lean?? I talked to Rocket about it and he suggested trying some of that florencent dye in the oil and then black light it, and I may do that. Any other ideas?? BTW the right side bottom of the motor is dry as far as I can see.

Be thankful the filter stopped the crud. It coulda been worse with the stuff getting into the carbs. A fillup of bad gas might be the culprit. Especially if you search around for the cheapest gas, or fill up a the 7-11 convience store pumps. Sometimes they don't run their fuel thru good enough or any filters. Drain the tank and take a good look at what's still left. Off color, water, and cloudy it was the gas, rust flakes and it's the tank. Next time buy your fuel at a brand station. When buying 4 gallons of gas, what are you saving $.80 cents maybe?? Cheap price to pay for peace of mind.

Trailering four bikes, and getting aftermarket chocks for them, is going to run you a couple of bucks besides probably not needing all of them ever again. Trailering on the side stand is going to take up way more room then you have. My suggestion is to trailer upright 2x2. Build the chocks out of 2x and 4x4's. (see below) Canyon Dancers are nice... I use one..., but again buying one for every bike is going to run the tab up. Strap the bikes pairs together in the center and control the separation by the outside straps. I also double up the front straps. One off the grip area and one off the fork above the brace. The mid attachment points between the bikes can be the same. Grip to grip, and fork to fork. A lighter strap can be used off the saddle guard to control the back end from wandering around. Again control the seperation by a mid strap, guard to guard. I found a great high quality set of 1.5" cargo straps at Sam's Club. 4 ea for about $17 bucks. A couple of sets will be all you need for the heavy duty stuff. Smaller 'el-cheepos' will sufice for the center. Don't make the straps so tight you can play a tune on them. Just enough to let the bike 'work' a bit. My 2cents...

89 1300 a little lean
Condor replied to frankd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Here's my thinking on this. If it only lasts for a couple of minutes when first starting out I'd just control the bog with a partial choke and be done with it. The milage you're getting is nothing to sneeze at. There are guys that would give their left nu....er....leg for that kind of milage.... -
A dead give-away is if the saddle bags are top loaders.
