  1. Had the same thing happen when taking off the clutch slave. Drilled the head off and then used a stud extractor to pull what was left out after getting the slave off. The only thing I can think of that would mess this method is if there's very little of the stud left over to get a bite on it. All you'd need would be about a 1/4".
  2. Once in a while....
  3. When a new California rider fills out the information on his... or her... info page it would great if they posted their home town. California is so long it's the equivalent of the distence between Jacksonville FL to NY City. Almost the entire eastern seaboard. Can you imagine what it would be like to put together a Meet'n'Eat if everyone on the east coast were lumped together into one catagory?? So if you're from Califirnia, how about adding your home town to your page. This goes for the old Ca members too.... Thanks.
  4. Here's a link to Lone Eagles RSTD and Harley trunk. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=big&p=554
  5. Almost exclusively Motel 6. Because most of the time I can't afford much more, and I'll sleep on a rock if need be, and motrin is my friend... You want hard beds? Try Mexico sometime. I think they use plywood.
  6. Rick, Are you using 1.6 or 2.5? I'd like to give it a try. Suggestions??
  7. You can always take the stator out and put it in the new2U....
  8. Yes they did with 100. The F designates the year D=83, E=84, F=85.
  9. You'll probably put more effort into making the panels then you will doing the mod if you want something decent looking when you're thru. I think I'd try doing something with the back of a V-Dub body and then go from there. From scratch, and making the molds, then laying up the panels is a big job. You could cold mold something out of thin ply and then cover is with glass, but getting any shape is tuff.....it'll look closer to a box. Someone on the board made a trailer a while back using a... I think... closed cell foam and then glassed over it. Looks pretty nice... Maybe they'll chime in.
  10. Serial nos. 110. Way below the 1413-7? for the improved 2nd gear...
  11. Side stands come up on Ebay all the time. The big problem is locating one of the shouldered bolts and jamb nut, so make sure they come with it. Probably the big reason the bolt sheared is that folks think they can get rid of the slop in the stand by tightening up on the bolt and it over torques the thing and it snaps. Tightening the bolt will not draw the tabs together....
  12. Just took a look at RED LODGE Weather for the next week, and it looks like it's time to break out the woolen undies.... Man, Mama Nature really likes us....
  13. The shift shaft on the 1st's comes out thru the stator cover Squeeze, and from the pics and diagrams of the 2nd it looks like it comes out thru the base of the middle gear cover. I don't think it's a direct swap of the linkage.???
  14. I'd like to extend my deepest sympathy.....
  15. I would think so, but Squeeze is the final authority on this one. You can find used pistons listed on Ebay from time to time and they go cheap as they never sell.
  16. My thoughts on the exhaust too. Heck if OCC can do it?? The shift linkage would be the biggest problem if you wanted to retain the peg configuration. With the linkage shaft coming out of the middle gear cover on the 2... at least that's the way it looks in the repair manual....maybe I'm wrong??.... instead of out of the stator on the 1... I'm guessing here, but it looks like the 2 is a direct drive to the tranny shaft and they did away with all that internal linkage???
  17. Have you tried bypassing the starter relay?? I might be??
  18. You can pick up used clutch baskets and bosses on Ebay for very little.... I can't remember if the sloppiness is normal or not. The slight noise is and is coming from the tranny when in neutral. Decreases when the lever is pulled and the tranny stops turning.
  19. Has anyone here ever stuck a 2ndGen 1300 motor into a 1stGen?? If so, how'd you get around the shift linkage?? Looks like the 2nd goes thru the middle gear cover instead of the stator cover like on a 1st.
  20. I've been giving the Commanders a thought lately. Might try a set when the AVONs get skinny. Why. I just don't buy the explaination from AVON that the sidewall checking is not very common, and not to worry about a little cracking as long it's slight. So far I haven't had a problem with the tires, or the factory warantee service, but I just don't need to be checking the tire everytime I roll out the driveway. My third AVON on the front of the '83 is starting to show checking again, but it performed OK in Cody.
  21. Hard to believe it can change so quickly. Wonder what it looks like on the top of BearTooth???
  22. Nah.... All the good jun...er.. stuff is in the garage, and slowly taking over the office. The trailer's in the back yard....right over there... buried...
  23. Nope..... Yep.....
  24. I have... Twice. Both times NADA.... I suppose if I let it sit over night some of the bubbles would rise to the top no matter what I did. But when I bleed the clutch I want to go riding now.... not the next day, or two to three days down the road... For those that have been around on this board for a while you know what I do. Takes about 15 minutes and it's done.
  25. Since it's a written document copyright laws might even come into effect. However.... spending the time and money to prove it would be a lesson in futility....
