  2. I think I'm going to blow up that term 'older 2 gens' and frame it!!!!
  3. Yep, On the charger you'll need is one that will never go above 13.4 VDC to prevent gassing...those tiny bubbles that appear when charging a wet cell.... What happens is the bubbles have no place to go in the gell because it's so thick, and end up suspended between the gel solution and the lead plates. When that happens the electical ions can't transfer from the plate to the electrolyte gel and the battery is basically FUBAR.
  4. There's a search engine in the menu bar at the top of the page....
  5. Mornin' Dave... I know what the reason for the pop up is, but I wonder how usefull the feature really is, and how many posters actually change their mind and pick a suggestion?? I still think it's a PITA.....
  6. AGM stands for Absorbed Glass Mat, and sometimes mistaken for a Gel battery. So far the AGM's are the best affortable bang for the buck in battery technology..... Here's a good explanation of the difference... http://www.batterystuff.com/tutorial_battery_gel_agm.html
  7. Every time I go to post a new thread and enter the subject line this damn frame pops up with suggestions about other threads that might possibily have something to do with what I'm posting about. It's a PITA. Any way I can turn the thing off???
  8. With sales volumn off by that much we'll be lucky to get anything at all.
  9. Never have been vry creditable...... :rotf:
  10. Thanks Rick, but the one Don gave the link to was a plug in for IE and it placed a link right in the tool bar. Really convient.
  11. Freebird posted a link to a spell checker downloadable from Micro Soft. Tried to find it to add to the reloaded XP Media but no luck. Is that thing still around or have they discontinued it?? I used it a olt.....
  12. Yeah, my thoughts too, although from the pics it doesn't look like it needs to be balanced. I'd need some sort of outboard ramps if it needs to be ridden up the ramp. I wouldn't have enough guts to stand next to if it doesn't. Maybe there's more to this story than meets the eye.....
  13. If the lettering scheme of things for europe is the same as the US, the 'G' stands for 1986. Not sure about the 1200cc eng though, as the 86US came with a 1300cc except the V-Max which stayed the same throughout it's production run.
  14. "Nah... that's OK... I'll wait for the real thing....
  15. Lots of it.... And I want it used.....
  16. Nice RSV, but I think I'll wait for FI....
  17. Just wondering how the CPU handled the mod. Since the OEM hi and low are on two different circuits and the hi/low of the mod are one with a selinoid tilt was there any problem with the dash lights or did you just disconnect them??
  18. I had that exact same problem on the '83, and it didn't have a thing to do with a bad or dry bearing. The speedo cable cover had come unscrewed from the back of the speedo fitting behind the dash. It happened on Kurt's (Gone14s) '84 too....
  19. DITTO ON WHAT SNAGGLETOOTH SAID.... I had problems with a couple of Odysseys and wasn't too happy the way the distributor handled the warantee. Ran acrosssed a post about the DEKA and decided to give one a try. Absolutely no complaints. I still have a couple of good Odysseys sitting in the office and will use them, but once they're gone....they're gone. I'll never buy another.
  20. I have a set of Russ' protecters on the '91. Felt lined naugahyde with snaps. easy on..easy off. He said he'd make a set for the '83 a while ago, and I hit him up again at Cody.... we'll see if he remembers.... If not one of our newer local members 'Baseplayer' is getting into 'nauga' work, and might be talked into reproducing... with Russ's permission... more of the sets. We also talked about reproducing the between the risers 'Le Pac' accessory pouch.
  21. I just ran into these ebay items in Florida and they should go pretty cheap, as they're pick-up only. If it were local I'd pick the stuff up for spare plastic...just because. 320437690094, 320437687937
  22. It seems like every one of these bikes has it's own formula for cold starting. I guess it's all part of their 'personality'. The craziest one is my '83. Full choke and then reduce it until it kicks and then go back to full in warp speed. While warming up the R's will continue to rise, and as they do I keep reducing the choke to keep the revs in the 2000 K range. Once it's warm I'm good to go. Starting is not an issue during the warmer months. One thing you can do to help starting is change the plugs and make sure your battery is 100% charged. If you have a 'smart charger' charge it over night, and with the new plugs and charged battery see what happens. MOF if you're running an OEM wet cell battery that could be your problem. They don't have a lot of amps anyway, and during cold weather even less...
  23. Don't mind at all... Thanks. I'll pass the info on, but at this point all I'm really interested in is getting the thing back up and running without loosing any workfiles and .jpg's. So we'll probably go with the first plan of slaving the old drive and using the 1T as the main. Although you never know what I'll get back, as Mike always seems to 'trick' things out when doing major repair....
  24. Now here's one that has a lot of potential. EBAY1986
