  1. Came close to high siding it once, and got out of it quite a few more times when he broke it loose. Not a very good example of V-Max handling.....
  2. Dang Art.... what didjado go fishin' with a Snickers Bar... Ya got me by a few of years, but still have an eleven year old hanging around....
  3. Well.... That woke me up.... Good Mornin' Folks!!!!!!!
  4. Nope... they are real life scenerios. Best thing you can do to help out in your thinking is give the taller final a try and report back your results. I'd be interested in your findings.....
  5. WOW!!!!!! Great paint job...great theme.... And... that's about the only way I swing a leg over one of those Boss' Hogs. Can you imagine what it's like trying to hold that thing up when it get's a couple of degrees off center. Oooo Whee!!
  6. No Offence Buddy.... I'm runing out of gas all the time..... I've also found that a bean diet will reduce wind resistence.....
  7. No pics Bill.....
  8. Think of it this way Bob. 3000rpm climbing up a hill, and 3000rpm coasting down. Same RPM...vastly different MPG. Fuel consumption per stroke is not always equal. It depends on the resistence, or how hard the motor has to work to maintain a given RPM. A taller final will cause the engine to work harder the faster you go, due to wind resistence.
  9. Not in the heads and valve covers....
  10. I just picked up another set (2ea.) on Ebay for $22.50. With shipping it came to $27.45. So far all the suggestions here about where to get them are way over that....??? Unless you need them in a hurry I'd suggest waiting around for them to show up for auction on Ebay.
  11. I kinda question your thinking that lowering the rpm will give you better milage on your 1stGen??? At 70-75mph, 35mpg is in the normal range. My '83 gets 38. But.... if I slow down to 60-65 it will get up to 42-43mpg, but who wants to do that... . Slow way down and run the twisties... 2nd-3rd-and maybe forth gear on occasion, and the milage will jump up to 50mpg. And I'm not the only one here who has discovered this. Wind resistance is the big enemy of higher mpg's. Increase your resistence effect by lowering your r's at the top end and your mpg will decrease, not get better. You have to twist that throttle more to maintain the higher speeds, or basically you will be lugging the engine more. My 2 cents....
  12. I had that happen when I first rebuilt the master, and the problem was that I'd used silicon assembly lube instead of DOT 3. It softened the rubber compression cup to the point it stuck to the wall of the cylinder and wouldn't move. Tighter than a frog's a$$. Had to rebuild it again. Experience is expensive....
  13. When the lever is pulled up to the grip the expansion hole in the reserve is on the backside of the compression cup. There is no way air can get to it to pass into the reserve. The air bubbles probably would have excaped out of the lines over a 4 day period even if you hadn't bungied the lever. Over night the bubbles rose to the top of the line and were trapped there by the cup until the next day when you started riding the bike. Each day you removed a little more air. If you had turned the bars so the reserve at the highest point the air would have excaped out the hole a little bit at a time without the bungy. It just takes a long time to bleed the clutch. Reverse bleed them and go riding within a half hour with 100% clutch.
  14. Well there goes the price of 2ndGen gaskets on Ebay.... I do have a set of regular gaskets that I'll install in the spare '91 motor. A lot easier when the motor's not in the scoot..
  15. I donno Brad. Seems like a lot of work even for $75 bucks when there are a half dozen other finals for that price on Ebay right now. $100 + $31 over charge shipping, and expecting a bid is LaLa time.....
  16. Great info.... I just picked up a set of 2ndGen gaskets off Ebay by mistake and was going to send them to Eck. Guess that's not going to happen....
  17. The West Marine stores also carry rubber flat washers. When I first bought the '91 the P.O. installed star conchos under each one of the rack posts and the first time it rained the truck got really damp. So I took black marine caulk and removed one screw at a time and squirted caulk into each hole filling the underside of each concho. No more leaks...
  18. They also came in the tool kits with the first few years of Venture production. I have one..... somewhere??.... really... I've seen it...
  19. IMHO.... Reverse bleed the system.....
  20. OK, here's the final tail of the tape. The 'put is up and runing again with 2 HDs. One 80G and one Teribyte. The end result is I lost a ton of info. Not all of it, but at least 50%. Luckly all the family pics, and biz info, survived, but all the Venture pics and articles are history. It's rebuild time. Even lost all email addresses. I'm slowly but surely rebuilding the address book. Thanks to everyone for all the help and suggestions.
  21. One of the problems with any 'Motorsports' battery is they only give them a 1 .... maybe 2..... year warantee. Even the AGM's as good as they are. You would think that the industry would stand behind their AGM hype, and put a 3-5 year on the things, but old habits die hard I guess.
  22. OK.... Now I'm really jealous......!!!!
  23. Sounds lke it's electrical. Maybe a bad pickup or TCI?? I'm sure there are a lot of other areas to look at, but that's a start... When it cuts out, does it backfire when it kicks in?? Something's breaking down somewhere??? I could even be a bad battery or stator. Not enough amps to fire the plugs at high end....??
  24. You can actually get a vehicle in your garage.....
  25. This guy must be smokin somethin'??? Ebay Pumpkin
