High Output Stator from Buckeye Performance
Condor replied to Joopster55's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I thought that's what I said only I guess it's the "glass is half full or half empty" senerio. I look at it this way. A motor will start and run on a battery. A motor will not start and run on a stator. So I'll stick with the battery as primary therory. :-)- 69 replies

High Output Stator from Buckeye Performance
Condor replied to Joopster55's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
First, this is a great thread. I've often wondered about the benefits of installing the hi-output stator. My question is with all the electronics turned on does it exceed the 30 amp output of the stator? And if it does, how long will it be before it will drain the battery to 50% of total CCA?? Here's where I'm at. The bike doesn't run off the stator. The bike runs off the battery. The battery is nothing more than a buffer between the stators ability to charge, and the electrical system load. Pull more out of the battery than the stator can supply and the battery will be depleated. This could take a very long time depending on the CCA's of the battery. In other words if the load on the battery is 35 amps total and the stator is putting out 30 amps it would take about 8 hours to deplete an 80 CCA battery down to 50% charge. 80amp less 50% divided by 5amps(35-30) equals 8 hrs. If the load goes below 30 amps the stator puts out enough to replace the used amps. In the OEM batteries case it will drain it down in a couple of hours or less. So if a rider has a load created by heated riding gear, and like's to play the tape deck constantly along with a ton of rear lighting, and front running lights, the chances are, if they don't have a decent battery installed they're gonna need a jump start.. However if all the equipment doesn't use more than the stator output, they don't need a hi-output stator and it's a waste of money. What they might need, if they still are running the OEM Wet Cell battery is one of the better AGM Batts. Just My 2cents- 69 replies

You might want to delete one of your duplicate posts. Also it's not illigal to ship a sealed AGM battery via USPS Priority Flat rate. Chinese batteries are not the same quality as an AGM built in the US, and it doesn't surprise me that the thin case split in transit. You should have brought the leakage to the attention of the Post Office. WestCoast and Odyssey are US made and are the same battery. One is private labled by Odyssey for WestCoast. You failed to mentioned the DEKA battery. Well made in the US and checks out slightly better than the Odyssey with an OEM foot print. As posted in previous posts, contact Josh at http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka.html for the best price on the DEKA. -
Irv's site is good. I use it and this one for my insurance needs. http://www.vagabundos.com/

Opinions on clutch issue

I highly doubt the slave needs to be rebuilt on a 2004 RSV. Tell 'm to get the air out. -

overtaxing charging circuit?
Condor replied to dynodon's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When the bike gets below 2000rpm the stator doesn't put out, and the entire electrical demand has to be supplied by the battery. With all that electrical on, and the battery not having enough CC amps stored, the voltage will drop like a rock. As aleady suggested cutting back on the demand will help a ton, but if you haven't installed a DEKA AGM batt, now's the time to think about it. -
Opinions on clutch issue

Yeah, I read your first post and your problem isn't that the clutch is slipping, but rather it's not disengaging. Usually this is caused by air in the line. Once the air in the line/slave heats up it builds enough pressure to actuate the slave when the lever is pulled back.. If there were some way to turn the bars all the way to the right so the reserve is as high as it'll go, and then stand the bike up straight with a lift or??, the air may bleed off over night?? It would be better to somehow tilt the bike to the right, but that's asking too much on a 2ndGen. I know the rest of the guys get tired of me preaching about reverse bleeding the clutch to get all the air out, but if all else fails, that's the best way to get'r done. -
It might be the Odyssey, but I doubt it. In my opinion the Odyssey comes in #2 next to the Deka. Your stator may not be putting out enough to meet all the electrical demands of the bike. Or you might have an ambient drain when the bike is turned off. Try disconecting the battery after a days ride, and then connecting it again in the AM and see if it starts up OK. If it doesn't, you have a weak batt. If it does there's a good chance you have a drain while sitting, besides the normal milliamp drain for the dash clock etc....

So how is it slipping???

I didn't have time to read the entire article, but from what I read it didn't seem all that heavy handed when it came to the Venture. A standard critique mostly. I did concintrate on the Verture sections, but did notice a few remarks about the other bikes as well. I think the biggest problem is the fact that Yamaha hasn't 'tweeked' the bike since it's inception. That said, it still holds it's own against newer modified bikes. That's got to be a big plus for the design.

Wow!! What a great looking bike. It's a shame that after blinging any bike you can never get anywhere near what you have invested in it.....

Current draw of brake circuit

You have a good Thanksgiving too Bill. I wouldn't have a clue as to why the fuses blow?? I've never had the problem because I just leave the ADives be on the MkII's, and the '83 has them with the new '86 forks, but I've never tried to hook them up. Rode Cody without them wired and everything was fine. MOF I didn't even think about not having them.
