En Gard Buddy...... :rotf: I've always wondered why they made that removable panel above the CLASS on MKI's. I think the '83 panel was even made that way?? The OEM CB may very well have been an option in '85, but since the Royale was supposted to be loaded from the git-go I wonder why that was?? Anyway, it's not that important. If you have an OEM in Goldie then the '85's had them. The only constant difference between the Royale and the Standard...through all the years.... was the CLASS system.

A previous owner may have installed an OEM CB and board in yours before you bought it Bob. The boards parts are interchangable. I was planning on installing one in my '83 and just might still do it when I get energized. The problem I had was finding that MKII piece that flipped up to get to the overflow and the surrounding face. Now I have several... BTW, I just drug out an 83-85 Service Manual and there is no mention of a CB.

QualComm...or something like that.... put out an aftermarket CB for the MKI's that fit in the right side board above the CLASS system, and they were wired to work with the intercom and speakers. I see them show up on Ebay every once in a while. I don't believe the OEM CB's started until '86. A standard can have an OEM radio/tape installed as an option. MOF most standards I've seen already have the speakers installed at the factory even though there isn't a radio. That's why you run into standards that have the radio, but no CLASS. The CLASS was the only absolute difference between the Royale and the Standard. The labels on the covers over the years have gotten mixed up because of replacement. My '83VR has a XVZ12 label on the trunk for that reason. Same holds true for tank covers.

Broke a *%&!##$ Valve cover bolt
Condor replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That's my thinking. If it's just the bolt head you might have enough room to get a stud puller in there to remove it after getting the cover off. -
Let's face it, it's only biz. There are a lot more Harleys out there then any other bike. If you're fishing for biz, it's best to toss your lure into a pond with the most fish....

I picked up a Field Shear mesh jacket with liner off Ebay for $60 bucks. New with tags. Like it a lot and have used it on some really hot rides. I'm sure the other mesh's are equally as good. Shop around... mesh is mesh, I don't care what fancy name they put on it.. Protective padding may differ.

I don't have a back rest on the '83, but..... I do have one of those duffle bags that when stuffed full of clothes for a 10 day trip... makes a dandy back rest when stowed in the passenger seat. I think it makes the most comfortable back rest anyone can have. Couldn't do a 600 mile day without something back there.

I watched the last half of the game, and don't get me wrong, I'm happy for the Saint franchise. But.... IMO the win was handed to them by a couple of bush calls by the refs in last few seconds of the reg game, and a couple more in OT. Pass interference on an uncatchable throw, and a ruled reception on a pass that the receiver never had control of. I wonder who's payroll they were on??

Looks a lot like a Stratoliner to me.... http://media.popularmechanics.com/images/victory-2-0709.jpg http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2010models/2010-Yamaha-StratolinerDeluxeb-small.jpg

Actually I'm a hundred and twenty five.....

I still like the original DIY design. I suspect 9oz. isn't going to give a whole lot of 'blast time' when cleaning anything larger than a small part, and for just a few bucks more this one may be better suited if you're lazy... like me... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=37025

Now that I think about it, maybe both the standard and royale came in gold. Reds were royales only. Anybody have a standard red '84??
-
Yep, I was really blown away by the increase. I think he was saying he didn't want to make them any more, but......
-
It wasn't actually an option. A few of the very late '83's were actually '84 models with '83 VIN#'s. I own one and have run into several others.... Youse guys have forgotten about color. In '84 the VR's were red and the standards were gold. The oposite of '83. I believe the Midnight Special might have came both ways. The big difference between the standard and royale all the way through to '88 was the CLASS system. The standard could have the radio/intercom added as an option. From '88 on they dropped the standard.

WOW!! What a great idea. Gotta make me one of those..... Thanks

Maybe some of you are old enough to remember way back when in the days of Model A Fords, Oasis Desert Bags that hung in front of radiators, and evoporative swamp coolers that hung in the side window. Mom and Dad used to cook meals on the exhaust manifold of the motor. Ate a lot of hot meals while traveling cross country from NY to CA in the '40's that way. Pot roasts, beef stews, hot dogs, baked potatoes. Now that was roughing it. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried doing this on a Venture??? Maybe those that tow a tent trailer??? Found this site on Google. Manifold Cooking Plus a bunch of others.....

The reason most, if not all, of those tabs break off is the metal sleeve that fits inside the hole of the grommet has been lost at one time. The tab and grommet are not designed to take compression. The sleeve allows the screw to be torqued down on the washer without putting stress on the tab and eventually causing it to break. On lowering the bike. Try removing some of the seat padding, and leaving the fork and rear shock pressure at zero....

vacuum line on #2 (left front?)carb
Condor replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I re read your first post. I don't know what that canister is, but I take a guess and say it's the canister for the California smog. My '83 has it in front over the heat shield. I'd disconect it. Sorry about my being not reading right. Your boost is propably OK. I'd just cap off all the vacume ports on the manafolds and run a vacume hose from the #2 carb bib to the boost sensor. The boost sensor is located in front of the TCI.... -
The last time on his website they'd gone up to $800. Whew!!! Really neat but not for 8 C's....
