  1. Aluma's are good trailers. Not the prettiest, but solid and bullet proof.. :-) $1000 is generally what they bring on the used market. This one looks to be a fairly recent build due to the LED tail lights. I won the one raffled off in Cody in '11 but took the money instead since I already had a great trailer and didn't need two.

    SAF Fund

A lot of newer members don't know this, but VR.Org has an SAF Fund. Special Activities Fund. Generally it was funded by money made from the Raffles and Activities from the yearly Internationals and private donations, but lately there hasn't been a lot of money left over to donate.. The person in charge sends flowers when needed, and takes care of many other 'needs' as well. Black Owl was the honorary that took care of those things. Since his passing, and no one taking up the mantle, it has sort of laid dormant, but with the passing of Yammer, and Don sending flowers from all of us out of his own pocket, I think the time has come for us to fatten the Fund. There is a 'Contribution Actions' link at the top of the page. Donating doesn't have to be much. $10 bucks isn't going to kill anyone, but if a lot of us send something I bet it will make the SAF viable again... My $10....
  3. Yeah, I know that's because you're a tough guy.... Arrrgghh!! Tell me about the other 99 out of a hundred that'll even slow down when they're passing someone on the road side getting written up... Like the LEO is going to drop everything and chase them.... Around construction zones in California they'll park old CHP units at both ends of a construction zone with no one in them and traffic will slow down. Heck some are even cardboard cutouts and they work too.
  4. That's assuming that the HP is doing 70. He may be cruising along at 65 and everybody's afraid to pass him.... :-)
  5. That's amazing for that big of an engine.... Must be the FI and riding in the power curve... My old 83VR would get 50mpg on a regular basis when day riding in the Sierras... The '07RSV averaged 47 to the top of Mt Hood in Oregon. Don't want to talk about the 99RSV pulling a trailer. Sucks gas like a horse eating oats.... 26mpg :-(
  6. An E1 tells you there's a problem in the system... Just for the 'H' of it pull the gang plug out again and take an erasure to the contacts. There are some electronic cleaners available on the market, but try the erasure first. Also try to clean the power plug. There's also one back by the compressor. See if that doesn't clear up the E1. If it doesn't check on ebay and see if you can find another one. 99 times out of a hundred it's a bad solder joint.. They're easy to R&R.. But you already know that.. :-)
  7. I know this is old, but better late than never... :-) The problem with a spin-on that doesn't take an adapter is the highth of any filter that would fit. The '83 has the adapter and FYI the filter that fits it is a Fram PH3950.... If you haven't already figured that out by now... :-) There is an adapter made in Canada that takes a slightly different filter, but I can't remember which..
  8. Great offer, but I think the lack of 'I'll take the....' responses are because the costs to ship from Canada are huge for those size packages... Look luck finding a home for the stuff, and thanks for a very generous offer....
  9. I've done several of these boards and I find that those that need resoldering have a light brown ring around the connection. The solder looks good but generally it isn't. However that said I usually end up resoldering everything anyway... One in particular on my '91VR I had to beat into submission. It took three tries before it came back to life... But what a great feeling.... :-) Arrrggghh!!
  10. One thing that no one has brought up, but is pretty well known is 'Red's Dead'. Of all the colors, red will fade the fastest and deteriorate the quickest. UV is an ugly thing and will eat a red paint job... I owned a red Firebird and the bond between the paint and the clear coat got really bad right after the warantee lapsed. I'd suggest using a UV treatment on the bike to slow fading.... Just FYI the most resistant color to UV is anything around 18% gray.. i.e. silver etc....
  11. LOL Neither... It's on a 27... :-) http://www.cast-aways.com/images/lancer5.JPG
  12. Gonna miss you my friend.... Damn!!!
  13. I've often wondered why Suzuki hasn't caught on with the MC crowd. It looks good, and I've never read a bad report about performance. I personally have a 25hp O/B that runs like the day it came out of the factory, looks like new, and it's 25 years old!! The only thing I've had to replace was the prop 'cause a rock ate the last one... If I were in the market for another bike I'd certainly take a look at the C90T. Hard bags and a bat wing and hit the slab...
  14. I'm going to wait til it's summer to see what kind of reports come in on the V2's. So far every one who owns on is on the V2 band wagon and wouldn't be critical if their life depended on it.... So far all the 'opinions' I see are BS.....
  15. Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed that when our LED porch light is on at night it doesn't attract the bugs like it use to when it was a tungsten bulb.. MOF I don't get spider webs like I used to since the bug population has dropped dramatically.... Any one else notice that?? Of maybe I'm hallucinating again??
  16. And it begins.... :-)
  17. So...?? What's the point your trying to make in your post book?? I don't see anything vindictive in the opinions expressed on this board about an air cooled twin putting off gobs of heat on a hot day. It's experience that's talking. First off 81° is a walk in the park temp wise. Remember it ain't even summer....yet.. Come on down to So.Texas, or Phoenix, or California during august on a 100°+ day and tell us how comfortable it rides. Also run that puppy against an inline for for any distance and 77hp low torque V2 ain't gonna get it when it comes to running with a high RPM inline 4 of any make. You might snap your neck for the first 25 yds, but after that it'll be no contest. Low RPM torque is what Y wanted for a touring bike, and that what they built. Unfortunately they named it a Venture much to the objection of all the existing V4 riders. If they had named it something else there wouldn't be nearly the backlash from the 1st and 2nd Gen faithfulls. Cr@p, it's a new concept...give it a new name... And just to be honest I stopped reading your post about half way through 'cause I got bored.. Ya just gotta lighten up and not be so sensitive....
  18. That looks cool..... I bet you're going to have that puppy rigged to the gills by the time you leave... :-)
  19. I live in Kalifornia... Got an hour... or two?? :-)
  20. What happens is the bolt that holds the side stand on is shouldered, and isn't meant to be tightened.. The nut that fits on the back is nothing more that a lock nut.. The side stand gets a little loose from wear and folks think that by torquing down on the nut it will tighten up the stand. IT usually ends up breaking the bolt end off... Then they replace the oem bolt with one that's completely threaded. It puts too much pressure on the yoke and it breaks... My 2¢
  21. If memory serves me correctly I think I watched a video of Harley doing a torture test on their 'new' EVO motor, and it was impressive. Idling for over an hour in an enclosed shed, and then run around a track at high RPM. Then put back in the shed for more idling. They did this several... or more times. Motor performed above and beyond... Puc you remember anything like this??
  22. I usually keep an eyeball a few hundred yards down the road, or more depending on the speed, and avoid the pot holes... Never had a Wagner come with tie wraps.. Just big zips.. And slapping the binders on with 350# me sitting in the saddle has never caused the front end to dive enough to cause the problem you're describing??? Try cutting off the threaded part of the stud flush with the nut. That should solve any potential puncher problems.
  23. Yeah there are studs embedded in the fiberglass and nuts that are used to hold the center screen in position... Some of the first models of the Wagner Grill had the problem of scraping the front fender, but Steve modified them to get away from the problem. The Wagners are actually held on by a couple of zip ties that go from the engine guards to a hook which is also embedded in the side of the Wagner frame... I have one for each of my RSV's and have never had a problem. I like the looks and I guess it will protect the Radiator from rocks?? But then again I ran my 1stGen '83 for 40K+ naked and never had a mishap. The radiator...not me.... yeesh!!
  24. Too bad they didn't shoot it at night.... He keeps saying it's getting hot, but a red glow would have made it more dramatic.... The factory used to get shotguns returned for re-barreling after a wad from a previous round didn't make it out from a no powder shell. They'd cut the ends off and make trophy's out of the damaged barrel... Proved to be very popular... :-) I think I still have one out in the garage somewhere??
  25. If they have LPG in PR you might take a look at Duel Fuel generators. I have a buddy who has a vacation house just south of Muleje in Posada Conception Baja Mex Sur. He leaves his LP genset sitting for 6 months or more at a time and it's never failed to start as if it had run the day before... He swears by his... I just bought a Dura-Max 12000 for the same reason. I don't know about shipping one down to PR, but it's an option...
