  1. Funny, I never have......... ??? I might add... not yet anyway...
  2. Best thing since sliced bread....
  3. That dealer had some very good prices. Amazing the amount of inventory he has.. Interesting.....
  4. The seals in the shock and front forks may be leaking?? Did you try soaping those areas??
  5. Sigh... Day late and a dollar short... Story of my life. I just bought a set of very clean clutch and brake master assemblies with clear sight glasses off Ebay to replace those on the '83. They were getting to look and feel like swiss cheese.... However I am tempted to pick up a set of the crystals just because. Gary, let me know if you need to add a few more to a batch.
  6. Boy, Earl's right. I have a saddle off an '83 that actually melted from the heat. Ugly...
  7. Great ad for MC awareness. Not everyone is going to be effected by it, but if it saves one MC death it's worth it. Wish they played that stuff on US TV... One way to help is send the link to all our non-bike email addresses.
  8. That's a thought. Progressives run about $65 bucks the last time I checked. The preload is PVC pipe, and I cut mine in half. Some have left them out and others, superman's cousins, have kept them in one piece. One thing tho-. those cups that fit in the end of the stock preload also fit in the ends of the PVC. You'll need them to prevent the ends of the PVC from getting chewed up by the spring action over time. Earl may have to go to work....
  9. Are you sure that the PO didn't install Progressives or some other aftermarket springs?? Without that preload spacer it should have rode like cr@p with OEM springs, and some mechs leave them out when doing a spring upgrade. Any chance you can still get ahold of the PO to check??
  10. Nope...too ugly..... :rotf:
  11. Yeah, interesting Earl. I've never had the problem... not to say it doesn't exist... or maybe I've just been lucky??? I've got about a 5-6 carb sets and some I've used as parts, and so far I haven't had the problem... now just watch the next time I do a mix'n'match I'll run face first into it.... But if I do I will know what's going on.... :)

Yamaha makes slip-on tips for the stock mufflers that go on right over the existing tips. If you're talking about cutting off and rewelding something on it probably would be a first....
  13. The only difference that I'm aware of between the MkI and MkII sliders is the bleader hole... or what ever they call it.. in the bottom part of the plastic slider. Otherwise they are one size fits all... The hole can be drilled out to match the rest. Haven't figured out how to shrink it yet.....
  14. Geeze... got me all excited until I looked up the California Regs for antique plates. 25 years old or older.... but here's the kicker. It can only be driven to collector shows, parades, etc. Dang!!!
  15. Maybe it's just me, or an optical illusion, but that pic straight on from the back looks to me like the tire isn't lined up with the bags and frame??? Plus the lugage rack is missing. Rear ended??? http://i.ebayimg.com/02/!BnT(ZywBWk~$(KGrHqUH-EEEts(TTvHWBLi-,Pdmgg~~_3.JPG
  16. Not getting over 80-85mph sounds like you're running on three cylinders??? On the high idle. Back off the right/left sync screw a bit and see what happens. It may screwed in so much that your idle is actually being controlled by #3 and #4 carbs instead of #2. There's two screws on the right side of the carb assembly. Back the aft one out a bit and see what happens.
  17. That was cool........
  18. I think they're pretty nice looking. Since most of us are shade tree's out of neccessity, and don't drag up and move from job to job, not being built like a tank doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Roller bearing drawers, and lots of space for do-dads are. Besides, $600-$800 for one of the SS's vs. $2500-$3000 for a Snap-On or Mac of the same size makes the SS hard to walk away from.....
  19. Put the bike in first gear with the clutch in, rock back onto the rear wheel and let the clutch out just as the rear wheel touches the ground. This will pop the bike off the stand. Kinda a finess thing. I have to rock my '83 a few times to get it to go, and I'm not small and the air is at max, so I understand where you're coming from.
  20. Shoot Brad... Ask him if he'd like to practice on another.....
  21. Stick around Dell.... there'll be lots more....
  22. OK, Here's an easy way to tell the 1stGen MKI model year no matter what the vin # is. No checking the wiring. No tearing into anything to check vacume lines. As long as the bike is stock and not modified, here's the rules of the road. First off, if the bike has removable saddle bags it's a 1stGen MKI. If the dash doesn't have a dimmer knob it's an '83. If it does have a dash dimmer knob, and has a choke like the first pic attached, it's an '84. (only year like this) If it has a dimmer knob, but a slider choke like the second pic, it's an '85. I know the '85 has a larger trunk, but without something to compare it to, it sometimes can be deceiving. So using the comparisons above you can walk up to any 1stGen MKI and imediately ID the model year without having to do a thing. Hope this helps....
  23. I'd say if it's just been this last tire, it's the tire......
