  1. Bob, On the later model middle gear side covers there's an access hole in the cover. On the '83's it's not there. I'm not sure when the hole appeared, and I've wondered what it was for??? Now I know... Pro'bly added after a few mechanics started to biatch about having to pull the cover to change the side stand switch??
  2. That's what I'm thinkin' too Earl. This '91 has a lot of 'stuff' on it, but I never got to talk to the PO to find out if he'd done anything to the engine or suspension. I guess it's discovery as needed. Heck, it may already have a V-Max in it. I'll know for sure when I get it loaded up. I'm not sure about MPG, or if it'll act the same way as the '83 and get 38 on the flats and 50 in the twisties but the V-Max may help a bit??
  3. It finally closed at $3800. Don't know if this is a good price of not. I think I'd rather toss a few more bucks... if I had them... at a Venture...
  4. What get's me, and it's been a few times, is the Paypal payment is almost instanteous, and the refund will take weeks. As a small busines I issue refunds as soon as it's possible on returns, and emediately on a prepay if something happens, or the customer changes his mind. One thing that will happen is that if the payment was made using a credit card, Paypal will send the refund back to the card. It's a PITA having to check the CC statement to make sure the refund shows up.....
  5. Man, Lowell you sure got me to dusting out the cobwebs between the ears. I can't put my finger on just one or two things. I have a bunch of memories of things back when I was only about 3 y.o. Trouble is I can't remember which came first, and I'm not sure if they are actually memories or family pics I've seen over the years?? Geesh... Gotta go get another cup of coffee....
  6. Sorry I didn't read any of this in Say When..... Thanks for clarifying...
  7. I have a V-Max final waiting in the wings for the '91. Not looking for more power, but looking for a little lower gearing while pulling a trailer with two up. I may be the only one thinking along this line, but for me it should work...
  8. I think Squeeze meant to Say What????
  9. The VentureLine MKI and MKII luggage racks are different as the trunks are different. There may even be a different configuration for the '85?? The rack needs to clear the backrest hinge cover on the MKII. So the front of the rack is sloped up. If someone hasn't already done it by this afternoon I'll go out and take a pick of both. BTW the VentureLine racks have a medalion with either 1200 or 1300 in the center of the rack. I've never seen an aftermarket rack that looked good when installed.
  10. I've had issues with Avon in the past, but so far so good on the latest set. As far as cold concrete goes I have both my runners stored out side under all-weather covers on concrete and not getting a thing. The tires are waranteed for 5 years against any manufacturing defects. It also depends on how many 32nds tread is left. If you have one that is cracking but shows tread close to the wear bars they won't do a thing. In my cases they were fairly new when the cracking started. I also have 4 bikes that have been sitting neglicted with Dunlops on them that are older than dirt. No cracking. The only reason I've been sticking with Avons is they handle so well. However that said I've been looking at Mitchellin Comanders lately. It's the one tire that never seems to get any complaints when the subject of tires crops up....
  11. Now that makes sense....
  12. Is there some sort of new style stem that you can install from the outside I'm not aware of?? All the stems I've seen so far have to go in from the inside, hense the question about having to get the tire busted back down... on one side at least.
  13. My question would be how does he get the valve stem back in without busting the tire back down....?? Maybe I'm missing something here???
  14. I'd suggest staying south as long as possible before heading north into Utah. Might take a little longer but the weather windows get bigger......
  15. My sympathies go out to the family, but in answer to your question.... It's not going to happen. There will always be 'left hand louies', and there will always be accidents... both auto and motorcycle. Most of the time when it's a auto vs auto they just bang each other up, exchange insurance info, and walk away. When it's a auto vs MC, fatalities happen. Nothing we do is going to change that, unless we all start walking... or riding a horse.. Car drivers are not going to continully be on the watch for motorcyclists no matter how big the awareness compaign, it's up to us to be vigilant, keep out heads on a swivel, and think ahead. Relax and you're dead.
  16. I had the same thing happen on my '83... moaning when cold...., And on Kurts '84..deader than a door nail. In both cases it was nothing more than a loose jam nut at the back of the speedo. Re-tightening the cable jam nut on the back of the speedo ain't easy... 'specially if you have big hands..., but it can be done by pulling the headlight assembly, the left turnsignal lens, and using a long needle nose. Take a look at that before going out a spending any money.
  17. OK, I'm getting a great education here. My problem was that I thought they brought out the RSTD in '99 along with the RSV, and they were powered by the same motor. I also thought that they Royal Star TD stopped being built in '98. Wrong on both counts. And if the one on Ebay is really a 2000 with the detuned motor I don't want it. It hard enuff for my '83 to push around my lard a$$. I can't imagine dealing with a mouse engine.... Thanks to everyone who chimed in with all the good info, and yes I think the history section should be updated...

    YikeBike

Received this from my brother in Mt. Found it interesting. Maybe others will too. http://www.yikebike.com/site/gallery/video/yikebike-discovery-channel
  19. I just received a couple of messages back from the seller, and he's not much help. Says the bags are aftermarket, and insists it's a 2000 and 98hp. I did find the website that mentions a 'Boulevard' being offered in 2000, but I'm wondering if they were only left over '99's that were dusted off and marketed differently to get them out the door?? If they... Yamaha.. actually did put out a retro styled RSTD and called it the Boulevard it's a rare bike indeed, and I really like it. I'm going to ask the seller for the actual Vin#. That will eliminate any guessing.
  20. I donno?? I like the looks of it, but what throws me is the 74hp in the discription. It looks more like a 96-97 classic... Not a 2000. I dropped the seller a note to see if he can explain... It may very well be a Boulevard. I found this via Google. I like.... http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2000models/2000models-Yamaha-RoyalStar-Boulevard.htm Sure looks like it without all the bling.
  21. OK, I'm sorta looking at this supposedly 2000 RSTD on Ebay. I kinda like the styling, looks a lot like a stratoliner, but it doesn't look like any other TD I've seen. The specs list the HP at 74, and I thought the RSV and TD were more in the 98hp range. Take a look and see what you think. Can't tell by the vin number the seller entered either. 22. He might already have the braces too, but if not...?? http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2158/cat/6
  23. Yep, look like progressives to me.... Suspected as much..
  24. Well, the air has too be going somewhere, and I hate to be tossing suggestions at you, but have you soaped the fork fittings where the air lines connect? There's a couple of 'O' rings in there that could be worn?? There's also a possibility that the pump valve is leaking enternally?? With both the front and rear going down almost at the same time I think it's a pump issue.... maybe??
