    I have a couple of cheap GPS's, and the only gripe I have about either one is the screen will wash out in direct sunlight, when mounted on the scoot.... So, I found that the Garmin c550 Streetpilot has the same anti-glare screen that the Zumo 550 has although a little smaller screen, and the unit isn't waterproof, which isn't that big of a deal. One of the cheapies I have has a screen info bar at the bottom that gives me the mph, which I like a lot. The other does not, but you can get it by going to the GPS info page.... a PITA. I don't know if the c550 has that info available, but I figure the screen is the big issue and I'll live with no mph. Like I memtioned the c550 has a smaller screen, but it's still touch driven. My feeling is with the smaller screen it won't look so big and take over everything else on the dash, and would be easier to find a spot to mount. Now here's the good news. They can be had for less than a 'C' note on Ebay, and they have a 'bike' mount available. Just be careful when buying one that it is unlocked as it does have that feature, and if you can't unlock it, because the seller failed to mention it, it has to go to Garmin to be unlocked. My PS: It also has Bluetooth, and an MP3 player. Cell phone compatable via blue.

    I don't like Norton or Macafee. Been using Trend PC-cillan for over 15 years and it's never let me down. It's gotten to be a memory hog lately so if you don't have a newer machine with at least 2-3megs on the board... the more the merrier...., forget it...

    Worth $500... Nope.. It's a project. Offer him a couple of hundred and see where it goes. If he balks tell him to fix it and you'll give him a grand. Fiberglass is easy to work, but the racks, chrome, metal will be a PITA. I don't think the frame's tweaked as the damage seems to be road rash. Frames get bent by impact.

    It all depends on the DOT date and the amount of tread left. After 12,000 miles I think you've exceeded reasonable expectations. They'll only warantee tires that have deep seperation. Hair line cracks don't count....

    Don, I received the same response when I called Avon a couple of years ago. I also expressed concern, and was fed the same spin you were fed along with the attachment on the care and feeding of the Avon tire. I believe the Marketing Mgr's nick name was 'Suki'??. Might have been the same person you talked to. I used to have all the info stored away but lost it when my HD crashed 3 months ago. I afraid it's the same old spin. My thoughts are that we are just a small part of the Venom consumption, and feel that in our group we are exceeding that 1%. So far nothing catastrophic has occurred, as in the Metzler's tossing caps, but it's still disconcerting. I wonder what might come from contacting a federal agency (FTC) that handles problems of this sort, and can do so on a greater scale then just our group. The sad part about this is I really like their performance.

    Yeah, but he just told me he's gonna have it painted at PIP or DMMD... not sure which?? He's no fun...

    Do you plan on repainting them?? Just for kicks and giggles I thought that when the time cames to get the 83/84/86 fired up and on the road I'd try to get one piece of plastic for every color offered. Make it a color sample. You might also be patient and give it a few more months. The pickin's are always better in the summer months...

    If it worked fine before you replaced the cable then it's gotta be the cable. I'd try loosening up the play to max and give it a try, or even removing the cable completely. It's all guessing at this point.

    OK, I was probably the first rider to post a complaint about the Venom sever sidewall cracking back in '06 after Susanville. Twice. Avon warantee'd both front tires. What I'm wondering is just how many members have experienced sidewall cracking, and on how many tires. So let's start a list. Not interested in all the gorey details, just the facts listed below. PM me and I'll add your info to the list. From all the posts and threads about Avon tires cracking, I'd like to know just how many members are experiencing the problem. This is an after thought, but if you haven't experienced any cracking I'd like to hear from you also. All I'll need would be miles on the tire(s) and number of year(s) on the bike. I just think members are expeiencing way too much sidewall cracking, and sooner or later someone's going to throw a cap and get hurt. Although Avon has been very good on warantees, so far I don't think we've been given the straight story on sidewall cracking. I need the number of tires cracked, milage when replaced, warantee'd?, DOT date, and date replaced. Follow this link to see the results. AVON CRACKING

    Hey!!! I'm impressed.... That was kick a$$. Vive la France.. I just think that one day isn't going to do it. 3 or 4 days in a row will either cause bikes to be outlawed completely, or big brother will actually reconsider what they've done. It's not the demo that's going to make any dent...it's the calls from the car commuters that are going to have the most impact....

    I noticed that they have a feature called 'theft lock' that sounds like it's more trouble then it's worth. I hope the unit in the auction doesn't have it set. I would have called Garmin Tech to see if it's unlockable, but they were closed until monday. So it'll be a gamble. Thanks for the feedback..

    Anyone runing one of these instead of the Zumo? There's one coming up in an auction tomorrow. I know the screen is smaller, but it still has the screen that can be seen in direct sunlight. It also has Blue Tooth. It doesn't have the enterface cables, but they are still available thru Amazon.
